timeing belt

how often do you guys replace your timing belts? is it true that when it starts to go the truck sounds like a diesle more? i am pretty sure its the stock belt or maybe the second one. i am at 216 K miles. truck runs fine though. well except for the vibrations casued by the mud in the under carage. lol. how you guys get that out?

You may have a 60K or 105K (miles) belt, and no matter which you have you NEED to maintain that change scedule.

 

Often there are no warning signs of a belt going bad, they often jsut break and so does your wallet

I was cruising at 60 then all of the warning lights came on and it was DOA..... Due to the 220k miles on the engine and 20k on the rebuilt tranny, i went for a JDM $790..... Cheapest quote I had on getting the head rebuilt was $400... Upon striping my motor down, I also had piston damage.....

 

$30 belt, $40 Water pump, cant remember the cost on the tensioner... 3-4 hours of quality time with your Pathy.... Priceless IMO....

can a belt be replaced with out pulling the engine? any one got instructions on doing it?

Yes, you can replace it without pulling the engine. There are a lot of threads on the timing belt, search around a little and you'll find info galore. I commented in a timing belt thread just yesterday, if that gives you any idea...

At this point, you'll also at least want to buy a basic manual like a Chiltons or Haynes, if not a Factory Service Manual. It will help with questions and visualizing it.
