MichiganAve
With some of us planning on pushing unfamiliar territory with the 4.5" lift, I thought I'd open a discussion about durability issues with 33 to 35" tires. I know that Colopathy ran 33x12.5s and Matt ran 34x10.5. I don't know what Keith has. There are quite a few 2-3" lifted guys going with 33x10.5s now. I don't think anyone has seen consistent problems with this limited experience. Are the likely weak points the tie rods and the double universal joint steering extension? It seems to me that the increased wear on components and reduced gas mileage/acceleration is a product of radius*weight. This is why I am aiming to save weight in the rolling mass. I have purchased ProComp alloy 8023s that weigh 26lb in 16x8. I also have done some research on tire weights: Stock size 245/70/16: Bridgestone Revo 36 Michelin Cross Terrain 31 Pro Comp AT 31x10.5R15 C 39.9 Pro Comp AT 32x11.5R15 C 44.6 Pro Comp AT 33x12.5R15 C 50.1 Pro Comp AT 35x12.5R15 C 60.5 Pro Comp AT 285/75/16 D 53 Pro Comp AT 305/70/16 D 57.5 BFG AT 31x10.5R15 C 41 BFG AT 32x11.5R15 C 45 BFG AT 33x10.5R15 C 47 BFG AT 33x12.5R15 C 52 BFG AT 35x12.5R15 C 53 BFG AT 265/75/16 D 51 BFG AT 285/75/16 D 55 BFG AT 305/70/16 D 56 Pro Comp Xterrain 31x10.5R15 C 41.2 Pro Comp Xterrain 33x12.5R15 C 53 Pro Comp Xterrain 35x12.5R15 C 65 Pro Comp Xterrain 285/75/16 D 54.8 Pro Comp Xterrain 305/70/16 D 56.8 Dunlop MT 31x10.5R15 C 40 Dunlop MT 32x11.5R15 C 45 Dunlop MT 33x12.5R15 C 50 Dunlop MT 35x12.5R15 C 58 Dunlop MT 265/75/16 D 46 Dunlop MT 285/75/16 D 51 Dunlop MT 305/70R16 D 56 BFG MT 31x10.5R15 C 43 BFG MT 32x11.5R15 C 50 BFG MT 33x10.5R15 C 48 BFG MT 33x12.5R15 C 51 BFG MT 35x12.5R15 C 58 BFG MT 265/75/16 D 51 BFG MT 285/75/16 D 56 BFG MT 305/70/16 D 56 Goodyear MTR 31x10.5R15 C 46 Goodyear MTR 32x11.5R15 C 51 Goodyear MTR 33x12.5R15 C 57 Goodyear MTR 35x12.5R15 C 65 Goodyear MTR 265/75/16 D 55 Goodyear MTR 285/75/16 D 55 Goodyear MTR 305/70/16 D 58 Yoko MT 31x10.5R15 C 42 Yoko MT 33x12.5R15 C 51 Yoko MT 35x12.5R15 C 59 Yoko MT 265/75/16 C 48 Yoko MT 285/75/16 C 52 Yoko MT 305/70/16 D 57 Super Swamper SSR 33x12.5R15 67 I am pondering a BFG MT 305/70/16 which weighs 56lb, only 5lb more than the 265/75/16 BFG ATs in my living room. I couldn't find many weights for interco tires but they are rumored to be a very heavy brand, so I am no longer considering a Trxus MT, I will instead sipe another MT tire myself. FUELER
Wow, great info in this post. My question is - can driving techniques effect the life of power steering? For example, not letting my girlfriend crank the wheels from left to right while at a standstill?
94extreme
yeah fueler. no turning of big tires unless you're rolling.
max_stryker
of course not turning when at standstill with big tires is a common issue even with....domestics.
FUELER
my girlfriend always does things that make my heart skip a beat. For example, turning the wheel from full left to full right while at standstill, or when parking on a hill, she puts the auto tranny in park (without the e-brake) and lets the QX4 rest its weight on the tranny. THEN, she pulls the ebrake last. TERRIBLE!
max_stryker
ever think about NOT letting her drive
vengeful
ever think about NOT letting her drive Well, I wasn't going to say it, but I'm glad you mentioned it Max...LOL
tmorgan4
Never came back here and posted the weights I found out. The stock size spare, 255/65/16 mounted (couldn't tell what kind of rim) weighed 67 pounds. The 35x12.5x15 on a heavy steel rim (15x8) weighed 97 pounds. Yes, 30 pounds is a big difference, but if you look at the size difference, I would have expected more.
