Exhaust question

Ok I keep reeding people's post on how best way to get more power is intake and exhaust. I have done minor mods to the intake (K&N) and a homemade box for it. Next is exhaust sometime in the future my question is this: I looked under my pathy and the exhaust system looks to be in pretty good shape as in not rusting through anywhere, I shook on all the pipes and everything seems sturdy. So I am not sure whether it is worth it to put aftermarket exhaust on it. I was thinking about 2.5" pipe and a flowmaster 50 series but I can not afford to put headers on it right now.Is it even worth it to replace the pipe and muffler without installing headers since my stock exhaust is still in good working order? I will probably not do it right away anyway but I would like to get some opinions. Thanks.

Thanks for the input!! If and when I do it then I will be changing the cat and the pipe to 2.5" and getting a flowmaster 50 series. It might be put on hold now as I think I am going to be buying a boat possibly tommorrow.

2.5" is the largest you want to go, 2.25 probably being more applicable to a 3.0 V6. You can replace the manifold back system any time (hi flow cat does wonders)and will notice improvement, although the real gains are with replacing the headers. This can be done after the exhaust obviously.

Anyone who doesn't run a cat is an ass...

There really is no excuse not to have a high flow cat. They cost under $60 and will not cost you ANY power. Just reduces emissions by about 95%.

$60? where at? i have my bi-annual smog check coming up in december, so i'd like to be prepared for the california smog nazis =P
