Wheel Spacers

:type: I've searched and nothing! :help: Has anyone used or know much about wheel spacer kits? Good/affordable brands? :idea: Thinking it might help avoid the inner rubbing of the wider tires. Just a thought!

I found some buy a company called Gorilla I believe it is. Saw them at Murray's Auto parts. 1/4" and they wer 8 bucks a piece. I think I may get some while I debate on getting wheels with a bigger backspace. I get a tiny bit of rub at full lock that drives me nuts.

The Spidertrax are the only type of wheel spacers that I would trust. I don't trust the kind that fit over your existing lugs.

 

I've heard very good things about the Spydertrax brand, but don't have any personal experience, so I can't really offer any more insight on the matter.

Yeah, I've always felt a bit iffy about spacers because it puts so much sheering force on the lugs. The idea behind these spidertrax ones seems pretty good, but I think for $250 you are better off putting it towards some wheels with decent backspacing and having peace of mind. My only thing is that I kind of like my stock rims if they had some backspacing so I'd almost consider these.

 

Anyone on here used em? Yay or nay?

I have used them on other cars in the past (and never had any problems), but not on the Pathy, yet. I have a couple 1/8" on standby. I thought I might need them with the newest tires, but they jusssst cleared.

 

I say OK to use with following caveats:

- Moderation! I wouldn't go over 1/4" thick with a simple spacer. And if the spacer is so thick the "centering hole" of the wheel does not engage with the bump in the middle of the hub, you need to go thinner.

- Make sure the lug nuts/bolts still have AT LEAST 6 full threads engagement.

- Keep surfaces clean. You now have twice as many gaps for dirt and rocks to get in there and prevent the wheel from seating square.

BTW, adapters like the Spidertrax are going to be at least 1" thick... Probably a lot more than you are looking for.

 

And between 1/4" and 1", well, new wheels is about the only really safe option I can think of for a DD.

Try adjusting the wheel stops...

 

As for spacers, I avoid them on principle... Too much like shims !! *becomes noisily sick*

Once again, Thanks for all the insight! If they really aren't needed, then the money is going else where. Not too sure if I've done the right thing, but to avoid the creaking and clanking on a full turn either way, I've removed my wheel stops. I've cranked the wheel all the way to both sides and got out and checked the clearance of the tires and no rub and no problems as of yet. I've been running this way for about a year now. Still have them if I need to put them back on, but not planning on it right now.

Call me , but oh well!
