all I see is a red X...

Welcome! there are a few people here who aren't 4wheelers (not me though ). But you should have no problem finding the performance parts you're looking for. Good luck
-
a few people have added Bridgestone dueler revos and love them. Another popular choice is BFG AT's. Check out the 96+ forum, there was a thread on this.

that's a pretty big rear lift :o . Your stock springs were probably sagging a bit (just like mine )

Thats what i'm here to do! I would like some pictures, I'm always interested in stuff like this

Check out this guys website:project Pathfinder Go to suspension and look at his detailed procedure for camber adjustment. BTW, the lift looks awesome!!

How many people offroad their Pathy's
big_johnson replied to Runnerman's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
No water crossings, but I have splashed through some mud. No problems. The way I figure it, the mud/water would have to go straight up the tube (which is also ribbed, making it even harder), then still have enough force to penetrate the filter and enter the engine for it to cause any problems. I just won't go WOT through any water, yada yada yada. Actually, I left them on for that purpose. I looked at the underside of them, and there were many, many scratches :o . I know they aren't rock sliders, but I say that its better for them to take the scrapes than my paint -

chech my cardomain page in my sig. to see some of mine. I have other (cooler) ones, but they were taken with a regular camera so I can't put them on the computer :sniff: -

Yeah, this is the Pathfinder off road association , so we're all a little biased (and crazy ). I take mine offroad, nothing really extreme, but i've done some hairy stuff. Mines a 97 SE -
I love my Pathfinder even though it suck's

I'm not sure what it could be (not too engine savvy yet ), but I'm sure engine replacement isn't the only way to go. However, for the cost of repairing your current engine, it may be easier to get the engine replacement. You should go around to a few mechanics and get quotes on repair vs. replacement, see which one sounds easier on the wallet -
Its been doing pretty well. But like with all mods, it's noticeable at first but after a while you want more power . I've actually been thinking of getting a Weapon-R intake with the Ram-air kit and hooking it up to my bumper mod, that should be awesome. Check out this site for a guy who did that:ram-air I'd say go for it. It definitely made a difference, kind of like the one you experience by turning off the AC, just a bit more pronounced. But yeah, I'd say go for it, it's a very inexpensive mod that gives great results

Well, if you get rancho shocks they have a lifetime warranty, so you will be set with one purchase there :cool2: . Most aftermarket suspension components are designed to last for a while, so you should get pretty good quality and longevity with them. Especially if you don't do much offroading.

I didn't know they made LE's with 5-speeds. Though the 96 was the first year of the R50 Pathfinder, it doesn't seem to be too problematic compared with the 97+. Consumer reports still recommends the 96. My neighbor has a 96 with many more miles than my 97, it's holding up just fine. As for problems, the bushings aren't the only suspension component that will need fixing. Struts tend to go out, and the shocks don't last super long either. I say go for it if its a good price and is in good condition. You will love the 5-speed also, much more fun than an auto.

Black Pathfinders are the coolest!

Some other guy took his pathy down to Baja a few times, it looks like a blast. Oh, BTW, welcome!

Yeah, resonator is just to quiet things up even more. I haven't heard of any laws that require a resonator, it doesn't affect emissions, and unless you have extremely strict noise laws (even though the resonator doesn't make a huge different), you should be fine Let us know how it ends up

Man, I just realized, we kind of post jacked, didn't we? Oh well
-
yeah, the setting on 9 will rattle your bones If I remember correctly, it was mainly 97inCali who had major issues with the shocks, and that's because he took them to Baja and totally abused them on washboard roads :o . I hear blistein makes a very high quality shock, but they are a bit spendy, and aren't adjustable like the Ranchos.

Thaks for the compliments! No, I dont like the resonator, so I just left it off. Mine was rusted also, so I just decided to get a new muffler while I'm dealing w/exhaust. Does that $500 for the manifolds back include the cats? If so, its a pretty good deal. Yeah, if things are rusted there, might as well deal with it now. As for gas mileage, read a few posts up, I talked about it

Thats a nice looking truck you have there!! Looks like fun, mountain 4wheelin is the coolest

Hey DJ, thanks for the compliments man! As for the Ranchos, I actually got the RS9000X's, and they are definitely an improvement. I used to be able to hob on my running boards and make the car shake from side to side for like five seconds. Now, with the KYB struts and ranchos, the Pathfinder shakes for maybe a second at most. The body sway has really quieted down now. And the adjustability of the shocks is great, I have them on a 3 now (of 1-9) and its perfect for my needs. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the sound of the ranchos. They make kind of a squishing noise over some bumps, but they are oversized, heavy duty shocks, so more noise can be expected. (I actually had a post about this noise in this forum a while ago if you want to read it) I say go for the ranchos! Can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty!! BTW, as soon as you get that lift, it's picture and write up time for you, my friend!

A few more details I just thought of- (this is all kind of subjective though): Sound: At idle, you can hear the slightest rumble, but only someone who knew it was there could tell. At low RPM acceleration, the sound becomes deeper and has some bass to it. After about 3K or 3.5K RPMs though, the engine noise becomes louder than the exhaust and you don't really know its there. While cruising at a constant RPM, there is no drone below about 60 mph, but above that you can hear a quiet, deep rumble. However, all of this noise I hear with the radio completely off. Turn up the volume a bit and the music drowns out any noise. Another thing I noticed, (though I might be completely hallucinating) is that the muffler becomes slightly louder after a minute or two of driving. When I first drove out of the shop, I didn't hear anything, but shortly later on the road it became apparent. Performance: Definitely a performance gain. Maintains highway speed very well, with little pressure on the gas pedal. Takes off in first and second (manual transmission) more eagerly. Another thing that amazed me was the gas mileage. Right now, the needle is at the halfway mark and I'm at 160 miles. That is 90% city driving (with a heavy right foot at that). I cant wait to see what my overall mileage is. Costs: Installation was $132, which included labor and 2 custom bent pipes (they had to install a new driver side inlet pipe because the dynomax inlets were further apart than the stock muffler's) Here's another picture
