  1. i was using it because i was experiencing spark knocks and it helps take them away.. im thinking if i get a new knock sensor it will cure it but that will kind of expensive.. anyway my truck has about 130-140k miles.. so its better for it anyway.. it runs better.. i dont believe its necessary
  2. heck yeah measure that mother up.. when i get to my duty station.. ill get my sign on bonus.. and i was looking at dropping up to 3k into this new motor thing.. and i might even do a 5.7 and since the 350 will fit i might see what i can do about a 5.6 endurance..
  3. wow.. man i love this Pathfinder brotherhood stuff.. haha.. you guys are great, ok i gotta study for this radio frequency test.. ill check into it more.. there is a free diagnostics shop on base.. they might be able to find it.. ill keep ya posted though.. thanks a bunch..
  4. yeah but if you can fit a small block chevy in there a 4.2 has to fit..
  5. how would i go about checking codes.. i suppose i could always stop by the old dealership and see if they would let me use their tool.. if not would i be able to get a cheap one.? cus i really wanna know what the dealio is
  6. id like to have the 4.2 i dunno.. either one would be nice..
  7. so i was thinking more and more about a diesel cus im getting tired of using 93 octane.. anyway the reason im bringing this up is because when i get to my first duty station i was gonna order an engine from japan.. but i was thinking that a diesel would be fun.. plus id get to learn how to work on a diesel.. which i would really like to know because i am exposed to so many different engines and vehicles
  8. when i replaced my water pump the timing belt was removed. my neighbor had a manual with all cars from 72-02 with a timing belt.. so my timing was set to the vg30e on a maxima because the Pathfinder was not in the book.. im assuming its because there are several models that used the vg30e. so i know the timing was done correct. and if the knock sensor is bad how much am i looking at spending. i used to work for a dealership so im thinking they might be able to help me out a little bit.. and i just took a trip from dayton ohio to chicago illinois in it.. it did alright, but i did notice some power loss.. but she purred all the way up.. 145k and still kickin like a mule. anyway thank you so much for the help..
  9. ok so my stuff knocks or pings at about 2000-4500 rpms especially when going up hill. my mechanics at the shop thought it was spark knocks. they suggested i use a better gas.. so ive been using super which took away the majority of the noise. however it is beginning to come back. so i used the carbon cleaner stuff. the works.. through the intake the gas and the other one. i think the injectors. anyhow this still didnt cure the problem. so i dont know whether my block is just frocked up or what. it doesnt leak oil or anything.. i do however leak brake fluid. which i believe is because on my right rear caliper a pad fell out do to misinstallation so i think the whole caliper locked up.. so its leaking from the line i think.. i tightened it up and there is still leaking so im just gonna replace the whole caliper and line. the fluid drains out of my master cylinder and the other one for the clutch. i dont know if this would cause any of that pinging or not. but it happens.. hopefully not for long.. i did some searches and couldnt find anything too similar to my problem. there was one i replied on but i dont think it was the same. anyway.. if you guys and gals if there are any.. have any suggestions i would appreciate it. on base here they have a shop that gives free diagnostics. so if i dont figure it out by the time i get her here im gonna take it too them.. its really nice after they diagnose it they let you use the shop and tools for free. anywho thanks for any help.. have a good one
  10. what is a gap guard.. obviously it guards some gap... but where is it?
  11. whats good about our pathys is the door jam goes to the top of the body.. so, at home keep a plastic wedge, such as a door jam.. which might be too soft, and a long metal dowel rod.. thats how we got into almost everything at the dealership i worked for.. if that fails we had so many lockpick kits there.. buuuuuuut since the majority of us are not ase or asc (i dont member which) certified we cant get them.. i tried to buy one off the snap on truck guy and he laughed at me..
  12. lucas for me.. that crap does it right

    Hello

i did my t belt when i had to change waterpump.. all three of em had factory indentations.. i dunno what theyre called it was still a hassle.. i hope i never have to do it again..
  14. once again i didnt read all the replies cus im short on time so forgive me if i repeat someone.. i did something very similar.. i found out mine cant swim either... i had water coming up over the hood.. well my alternator took a big dump on me.. im not sure how you would go about testing it to see if it is working but my crapped out so check it.. yours might have too.. my airbox was drenched too but i didnt take any water into the engine.. from what ive heard of my buddies with pathys the engines rarely take drinks when you go deep.. good luck with your circuit board stuff... oh yeah the one under my driver seat is some idle control crap
  15. also jack up the front end a little so the tires are about an inch off the ground.. that it with the stock 31x10.5 that helps it get into the system a little faster.. leave it running and fix the cc so it is at about 1500 to 1800 for about 10 mins.. thats how we used to do it at the dealership...
  16. the dealership i worked at used red grease to pack bearings and cv boots.. most likely where it comes from
  17. my truck did i just ran a chemical through for carbon and it cleared it up a little.. also try using a higher octane fuel.. that helped mine as well.. but if it is a carbon buildup problem using a higher octane will build up carbon faster... but i would rather do the carbon clean kit once a month rather then use low octane and have it there all the time.. i didnt bother reading all the entries so sorry if im repeating someone.. also my engine made the noise at about 13-1400 till about 3200 its almost a knocking but not quite.. also is it worse or louder when going uphill.. if you have a manual just throw into 3rd.. and shift at a higher rpm.. after about a month or so of shifting at higher rpms it should spit out some of the carbon.. again sorry if i am repeating someone
  18. i had that noise and a week later my assender went out
  19. so if i were to pay someone to do an sas what am i looking at shelling out.. and what axle would be good to use.. i notice a lot of jgc and f100 parts get used.. would i go that same route... i have access to lots of f100s back in dayton ohio.. and probably lots of jgc's .. right now im in chicago so im sure i could find anything i need parts wise
  20. few ?'s for you.. what is sas.. and ive heard of some people just geting calmini t bars. are they better.. a technician at my shop told me if you crank the t bars it gives you lift.. do the cals give you more or what? to do a body lift myself will i need a hydraulic lift like the ones at a shop. or will something simple like a couple high jacks or whatever theyre called work? ill be going home for the weekend to get my truck and i want to install a lift while im there.. im not too experienced so i dont know if i could do it in one day.. i have to be back here at the naval station by sunday night so i was thinkin of working on it all saturday.. what are some of the big bumps in the road you run into while installing body lift or suspension.. that way i can be better pepared when it happens.? thanks
  21. i didnt bother to read all entries... but in reguards to disconneecting the factory amps... i did not.. i have a 92 se i put a cheap pioneer deck in.. i have two 6 polk 2 ways and 2 6x9 polk 3 ways. i assume the factory amp is still running though... i have a rockford 500 running one kicker comp vr 12.. and it pounds hard.. so hard in fact ive had to put my rear view mirror on several times.. now im to the point that i want another amp for my highs because i am in the process of cutting out the rear doors for some 8 inch subs and 4 tweeters in the corners of the cab..ill let you know how it goes
  22. i had a topic in here earlier and only got a couple responses.. i have a 92 se with the blue vinyl. i have searched ebay and even a few random search engines.. nothing in my county has a large stock of pathys junkyard wise.. i cant get it from the dealer i used to work for.. anybody know of any junkyards that might have it.. that would be outstanding.. or maybe even a company to get a hold of.. thanks Jonesy
