I got around to changing out the cat converter on the 93 yesterday and all I can say is WOW. That stock cat must have been clogged up some because just the high flow part couldn't account for the extra gain in real world power and drivability that I got. Plus I can sleep a little easier knowing my exhaust studs have a little less back pressure. Just another thanks to everybody in the forum for all the great advice

Found the Magnaflow cat 22760 on ebay today with a buy it now of $108 and free shipping. Of course I bought it. I think this is cheap insurance. Thanks for your help.

They are right, had to have my Z done. It's a safety feature so if a kid had their head out the window or something like that and somebody hit the auto up button it will go back down if it encounters any interferance on the way up. When it hits the top it lost it's memory and gets a false reading that its something blocking the path on the way up.

This post really hit home with me. I rememer back in the day I had a new 92 300zx N/A. One morning when it was about 8 months old with 10,000 miles I came out to start the car and it wouldn't fire. I smelled raw gas so I held the accelerator to the floor and it tried to start but would only sputter and die. Not wanting to run the battery down I gave up, went back inside and called the dealer to send a rollback. The wrecker came about an hour later and the driver tried to start it. Guess what it fired perfectly, blew a little black smoke and ran fine. I canceled the wrecker and drove the car to the dealer but they couldn't find anything wrong, no codes, nothing. About six months later same senario and by the time the wrecker got there it started and ran fine. Trip to the dealer and of course they couldn't find anything. About six months later same thing again but this time I just went back inside, waited an hour and tried again. Of course it started and ran fine but this time I skipped the trip to the dealer. That Z did this about every 6 months for the whole 3 years I owned it. The only thing I learned was how to call wherever I was supposed to be and tell them I would be about an hour late lol. The only tie in between the 6 month thing was It always happened once during the weather transition from summer to fall and then once again from winter to spring. In spite of that I wish I had never gotten rid of it and I'll own another one some day.

The Cat: I'm going to take the forums advice and replace the cat converter on the 93 VG with a high flow unit. My question is this: what unit is a direct bolt on replacement? And also this Pathy was delivered new in California from Concord Nissan. Does it have a different converter from the 49 state edition? Does it even make any difference since it's pre obd II? The tranny: The trans on the 93 was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago by a national chain and has a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. She paid $1800 ouch! My question is should I change the fluid to Nissan type C? I'm pretty sure they used whatever bulk shop fluid they had on hand during the rebuild. The trans seems to be shifting okay but I plan on keeping this one for a long time.

My 95 XE does not have the outside spare tire carrier. The spare is laying on the rear load floor. Can someone tell me what parts I need to get the spare properly attached to the side bracket? It looks like I'll need some kind of long bolt that goes through the wheel center along with a big washer and a wing nut. I don't even know were to begin to find something like that. My other Path has the spare mounted outside so I can't use it for reference.

So far I haven't been able to drive either one more than a day or two because they are both in and out of different repair shops getting petty issues fixed, brakes, tires, a bent wheel, etc., but I have learned this: I've pretty much GOT to redline them in first and second to get out of my gated apartment complex onto the main road. It's a short ramp from the gate to a major four lane highway with busy traffic running 65 miles per hour. They both shift at exactly 6000 rpm just as the needle touches the redline. I firmly believe this is good for the engine if you don't over do it, and it's good for my soul. For reference the Z can acomplish the exit out the gates at about half throttle with shifts at 3500 rpm. Of course I could have bought a Jimmy and an Explorer with cast iron pushrod lumps for engines and been like the rest of the herd where I live lol. I can't wait to take one of them off road for the first time, or for the first snowfall.

I'm trying to order a leather dye kit to atempt to restore re-dye the leather wrapped steering wheel on my 93 path. The trim tag shows interior code k. It appears to be some shade of dark gray. I can't get that specific code or listing but here is a link to what is available for Nissan and Infiniti. Which one should I choose? My gut says order Gray 7217 97-05 Sentra, Pathfinder but it looks a little dark. All opinions would be appreciated. I really just wish I could find a gray 93 standard wheel and change it out but I can't find a parted out Path with that color interior. Help! Leather Dye Color Chart

How long should exhaust repair last
dhardison replied to dhardison's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
The stud part numbers they used are NI14065-V5003 6 on the passenger side 2 on the driver side The right side manifold part number is NI14004-12GO2 This girl saved every piece of documentation from day one it's almost unbelievable. I really appreciate all the help you are giving me. That's always the great thing about the Nissan forums. THANK YOU -
I went to maaco today to retrieve the 95 XE and they really did a fantastic job straightening all the door dings and repainting both sides. Especially considering the price and how hard it is to paint black. Looking it over I found a rust spot in the driver back door jam at the base of the wheelwell. I didn’t pick it up, instead I negotiated a price to patch it and repaint the rocker panel. I also did a closer inspection on the frame and there is some flaking surface rust on the drivers frame rail. I hate it that I missed this when I was checking it out before I bought it. It’s not nearly as bad as some I looked at that were so bad I could almost poke my finger through the frame, but it is unsettling. Then I did something I should have done before I bought it and ran a carfax on it. Turns out it spent it’s first 5 years in Buffalo New York so I’m sure this didn’t help the situation. I live in Tennessee so I’m not used to having to deal with a lot of rust issues. It all breaks my heart. The 95 is the one with the absolute mint condition interior. From the drivers footwell carpet, to the door panels, the drivers seat bolster, everywhere you look this Path is absolutely perfect inside. It just makes you feel good setting in the drivers seat and looking around. Kinda like being in a time machine that you dialed back to 1995. I don’t even know how somebody could do it. In 5 years of ownership on the Z I haven’t been able to keep my interior that perfect and my car leads a pampered life in the garage, well cosmetically anyway. I do drive it like a Z and have the drivers license points to prove it lol. So I’ll keep the 93 SE with it’s thick folder of service records, and it's boatload of options that all still work, and sell the 95 but I really wanted to keep them both.

How long should exhaust repair last
dhardison replied to dhardison's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
The studs and right manifold were changed in March of 1996 during the regular 45,000 mile service. "Customer states noisy exhaust" Paid for by Nissan under what appears to be an extension of the factory warranty to 50,000 miles for that specific problem. -
I received a huge folder from the orginal owner of my 1993 SE V6 when I purchased the vehicle Saturday. I finally had time to set down and review all the contents today. Among the stack of Nissan dealer service receiptsgoing all the way back to new were a couple showing extended warrenty replacement of several broken studs and the right exhaust manifold around 45,000 miles, duh go figure. Now my question is this my truck has 176,000 miles now so do you think that intial repair fixed the problem for good? Is there a chance that the same thing can happen again. Everything seems to be quiet at this time. There was also a receipt with a one year warrenty for an $1800.00 tranny rebuild at 173,000 miles but the seller told me this. I was wondering if the right exhaust manifold has to come off for an automatic tranny rebuild? Should I recheck the bolts if the transmission shop did remove it? It was rebuilt by a national chain so I'm not sure if they would know to use caution when dealing with the exhaust studs. Any advice the group would like to share would be appreciated.

It's okay to use Kelly but use the dealer trade in price, that's what vehicles are really worth. Ignore all the retail and private party values.

I'm so glad you didn't say don't tach it up to the redline. Anything I drive has to get redlined in at least 2 or 3 gears once a day. The 2 I bought were the only ones I looked at that would run straight up to the redline without a clitch when you stomped them. All the rest would buck, stumple, shift early, bog or basically just couldn't rev past about 5000 rpm.

It's a long story but I ended up buying a 93 loaded SE yesterday. I think it has every option you could get that year. If you read my newbie post you know I just bought my first Pathfinder Friday and joined this forum. I see that many people in here own more than one Pathfinder. I'm loving it and plan to keep both. Anyway if anbody wants to look here is the 93 and my Z. I'll add a pic of the 95 as soon as I pick it up from Maaco. Read my newbie post for the reason it's at Maaco. I do have 2 dumb newbie questions though: 1. What term do I use if I wanted to say something like "Take a look at my (insert proper term here suv, truck, off road vehicle, cute-ute lol)" I know it sounds dumb but all I ever had to say is "Take a look at my car." 2. I don't think either Pathfinder has any manifold bolt issues so whats the best advice to minimize the chances of it happening in the future?
