Hey, do the wd21 pathy's have two cats or just one. I think I'll spring for that higher-flow cat by magnaflow. Just wanted to make sure.
-
If my cat is clogged, wouldn't that through a code or make it run all @!*%ty?
-
Yup, I'm bone stock. I'll give that a shot. Gas mileage is fine: I'll get around 19-20mpg on the highway. Thanks and also thanks to everyone else for the comments.

I wanted to check with you guys to see if this is normal. I know the VG30 engines aren't anything to brag about and that many owners complain about lack of power in stock form. I do think mine is a bit severe. Basically, my poor truck REALLY struggles to maintain speed on the highway. I can't stay with traffic even on the gentlest of hills and if I happen to be driving into a head wind, the tranny almost never locks up the torque converter and sometimes will downshift into 3rd and I have to keep the throttle at 3/4 of the way open. (This is at 65mph) I noticed today when I was coasting down a 6% grade, the truck still slows down by itself. It seems like it just doesn't want to go above 45mph in top gear. Do I have some sort of rolling resistence? Clogged exhaust? I'm on a tight budget now and can't spring for Thorley's/cat/exhaust yet. Would throwing a freer-flowing catback exhaust help? I experience all of this with just me on board with no other passengers and no load. It's been like this since I bought the truck a year ago. If I have passengers and run the A/C, I pretty much have to leave the O/D off. I don't like the tranny downshifting/upshifting all the time to maintain a steady speed. It seems pathetic. Otherwise the truck's running fine. Idles smooth, revs smooth. It's stock with 105K (timing belt just changed with no effect on power), auto tranny and 31x10.5 tires. I noticed a bad lack of power before upgrading to bigger tires, they just made it worse, obviously. Appreciate any response

Couple of questions after timing belt replacement
jpawela replied to jpawela's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Took it back to the mechanics and all is well. They fixed the vacum line, installed my distributer shield and missing bolts. The only thing are the manifold shields which I'm pretty sure were missing when I bought the truck. Do I really need them? Anyway, thanks for all the help. -
Couple of questions after timing belt replacement
jpawela replied to jpawela's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Thanks a bunch for the reply. I forgot to mention that the mechanics didn't get the timing marks right the first time and blew a couple of valves. I basically had a free valve job. Thus that's why they would have been messing with the things you pointed out—to get to the heads. -
Hi all, I recently had my timing belt replaced by a mechanic in my home town. I have mixed feelings about these guys but anyway here's my questions: When I drove the truck home, it seemed to run fine, smooth and normal. However I'm really meticulous and wanted to take a peek under the hood to see how things look. I noticed that they neglected to install two screws on the timing belt cover. Is that something to be alarmed about? Will dust and crap get into the timing belt area? Also, it seems that a vacuum line is missing off of this (I have no idea what it is since I'm no mechanic) What is it and does a hose attach to it or something? Here's a broader area shot... Last, this ground cable is just hanging around. Anybody know where it attaches to? The other end is just bolted to the body. I know I'm asking a lot here but I'd appreciate any input you have to offer.

Mine has lived in the desert nearly all its life and it has a bit of rust in the same area. I guess my fender flares trapped mud and moisture. I eventually got it off with some heavy duty rubbing compound.

Doug Thorley Headers Group Deal
jpawela replied to VegasPathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
What's the latest on this? If we're still going for this deal, then I'm in...committed! -
hmmm...this might be a reason for my recent ticket (77 in 70). I never connected it to the speedo because I assumed it couldn't be that far off.
-
Do you get any heat soak from the cone style intake? I had a similar setup on my Acura until I couldn't stand it anymore and put the stock setup back in.
-
Damn! I consider that fast! (80-90mph) In our Pathy's.
-
Super nice! I'm jealous because I can't do any fancy liftin' on mine until I pay off some bills. I gotta live with the droopy butt like you had before your transformation.
-
Why, oh why didn't they just slam the Maxima's engine in as it was (170hp) and all.
-
Yeah, I know it's a dumb question and I've search and found nothing. I believe that my XE cloth seats are ridiculously firm and my butt gets really sore after an hour or so of driving. Makes me avoid long trips in my Pathy. I know the SE seats have different cloth but I haven't able to test them. Do they have different stuffing and offer more support? If so, I might get some to replace my rock hard XE one's. Either that or butt implants Any input appreciated!

How do they ride for you? That is, do they wobble or moan a lot?

Update: well, since the oil change, the tick is gone and everything is running great. I have no idea what happened there. I didn't let the oil go that long since its last change. I think however, I'll just suck it up and have the timing belt done as well as fixing an oil pressure switch. I thank all of you for your input and comments!
-
31 BFG All-Terrain because it's my daily beater.
-
UPDATE: Well, I changed my oil today and the sound amazingly vanished! Nothing! The engine is totally silent. BTW: I used the same oil I always use. Go figure. I'll see if it stays that way.
-
The impact on mine seems very sensitive. The alarm sounded just when I had my other car idling next to my pathy. seems unusual to me but I just turned it off anyway and never use it. (I don't tell that to my insurance co. though)

 Unfortunately, my mechanic skill level is quite low. Also I don't have a good collection of tools yet. I'm hoping to bribe a friend into helping me out. If not, it's off to my mechanic and $$$$. BTW, I'd like to see your vid if you can post it. My camera really didn't do a great job on the sound (lots of other white noise distracting). Also I didn't have the A/C on. Thanks for the help!

Actually, I now have 101K. I'm currently saving for a timing belt service and don't drive it much. Sucks since I can't put that money on other repairs I want to get done. On that other vid, it was just cold. When warm, it idles normally. Thanks for all the comments guys!

auto trans going out.lost reverse.oh happy day
jpawela replied to Ronin's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
My boss has a 95 pathy with 187K on an original auto. He's had a few issues that were fixed by a flush, might want to give 'er a try. He also has an external cooler which probably helps a lot. -
That's what I was thinking at first. However, it goes away if the motor is reved past 25-3K rpms or if I accelerate rather briskly.
-
Please advise: It's been doing this little by little until now...it's constant at idle. It doesn't matter if it's warm or cold. Lifters, valves?
