  1. Went to a mall about twenty miles away. Got there and was in the mall about twenty or so minutes and came back out and the engine started right up like always and then stalled and would not start back up, I tried for at least two minutes. Popped the hood to make sure nothing came loose and didn't see anything. Closed the hood got back in and tried again and it started up, but ran rough as heck for about a minute and then suddenly leveled out and ran just like it always does. I made a couple stops back home and she started right back up, so I'm at a loss here on this one. Nothing felt loose when I checked under the hood. The whole distributor is brand new, I doubt it has a thousand miles on it yet, so it shouldn't be an ignition problem. Changed the fuel filter when I first got the vehicle. I'm not sure what else to check.
  2. I thought I have posted this question before, but I couldn't find the post. It's been doing this for quite a while now, but it seem to be louder in warmer weather. I haven't checked the check valve. My tank does have a lot of pressure at times when I screw off the cap, but I've been told by several that is normal because it is a pressurized fuel system.
  3. When I stop my 96 LE, every once in a while, usually after a long ride, I hear this strange noise from under the hood sort of like the low tone of a fog horn. It isn't super loud and only lasts a few seconds like pop the hood latch and by the time I get the hood opened it has stopped. At first I thought it was the radiator cap, so I replaced it and I still get the noise from time to time. What could it be? Leaking vacuum line line somewhere or a vacuum door on something?
  4. Checked the mounts and all the bushings were replace a few months ago. I have a lot of backlash at the rear axle. Way too much in my opinion.
  5. The clunk is every once in a while when I am driving usually when I decelerate coming down off a bridge or hill. Picturing the driveshaft where it goes into the differential as a clock and with the tires on the ground. I can easily twist from 12 o clock to about half way between 1 and 2 o clock. No shavings to speak of in the lube when I changed the lube when I first got it. Lube was very nasty looking, but didn't smell burnt. The vehicle has 228K on it and I'd like to rebuild the darn thing regardless, but all I keep getting is lines of s--t and run arounds when it comes to a price. Nissan wants $1,800 to do it and I am very temped to just go ahead and let them do it because they are the only ones who gave a straight answer so far.
  6. Thank you! That gives me something to work with. I'm building mine from scratch and wasn't exactly sure how to go about mounting it.
  7. Yes, if you would please. I'm in the brain storming stage right now.
  8. Yeah wheels on ground. Got pretty good backlash in the driveshaft where it goes into the rear differential. It has a pretty healthy clunk at times too. I can't get a straight answer out of anyone on it. One person says not to worry about it that is normal and another says that should not be. Trying to find someone to rebuild the darn thing for me and again no one will give me a straight answer.
  9. How much backlash should one expect rotating the drive shaft?
  10. Does anyone have or know where I can get a set of plans for a roof top tent platform for a 96 Pathfinder LE? I did a Google search and hit on every year, make, and model of vehicle but a 96 Pathfinder.
  11. It has an external cooler, but I think I am going to put a little larger one on it because the one on it now is real small like 3 in wide by about 10 inches long.
  12. My bad, I posted in the wrong spot. I posted from my phone instead from my computer where I can actually see what I am doing. As far as towing, I don't intend to pull anywhere near the max. Travel trailer I am designing should only be in the neighborhood of 3500 pounds.
  13. I just got a Curt class 3 trailer hitch kit for my Pathfinder. Those four bolts each side can really hold up to pulling 5,000 pounds???
  14. Sounds like what my 96 3.3L was doing before the distributor module went out. Started out just once in a while and progressively got worse and worse and one day it just quit and the engine wouldn't start again.
  15. Thank you all. Yeah I ended up having to run a wire from the converter across to the passenger side. The passenger side is feed by another smaller harness that runs down the passenger side. The three plugs I snapped the picture of, one goes to the rear dome light, the other goes to the center tail light assembly, and the last I assume goes to the rear hatch lock.
  16. Mine better last that long again because I may just put a couple of flat head bolts in there next time.
  17. I found the harness feed to the drivers side. I'm trying to hook up a trailer plug without having to run a wire all the way to the passenger side. I'm right at the main harness splits off in back at a computer looking thing, three relays, a box about 3 inches square and sends wires everywhere. Like I said, I found the wires going to the drivers side tail light assembly, but which ones in this zoo feeds the passenger side? I downloaded the wiring diagram for the 96 Pathfinder, but it is about as helpful as a high wind at a barn fire.
  18. Had the exact same thing happen about three weeks ago. Darn little rubber button on the brake peddle rotten off and fell out. GREAT BIG PAIN IN THE XXX to replace unless you got very small hands.
  19. Which one of these are the wires to the passenger side tail light assembly? I'm trying to wire in a wiring harness for a trailer hitch.
  20. Have you been able to get the door panel off or the door open yet? The rear drivers side door on my 96 is stuck closed. Both handles just flop like they are broke inside.
  21. Should I be concerned about it or just learn to live with it?
  22. The lower end of the sound. Almost exactly!! Lasted almost as long too.
  23. This sounded like a fog horn from an old movie or cartoon. It wasn't loud loud, just barely audible, but loud enough to make you say "What the ..... ".
  24. That may be the cause of my noise. Sorry if this font is a little large, I don't have my glasses with me and had to blow the font up a bit so I could see what I am writing here.
