1. <DAY THREE CONT'D> Pulled the rear bumper off to install the Tow Hitch, and decided to do a little Rustoleum Black Magic on the rear frame. So Day Three looks promising!!
2. <DAY THREE> So I brought home the new dash and center console, along with a really nice Tow Hitch assembly, all together cost me $170... New Dash Pics Follow: (Bear in mind, dash is dusty and needs to be cleaned. I'll post pics when it's installed...and the removal of the old dash as well.
3. <DAY TWO> So I decided to take a quick visit to my closest Pull and Pay (Nice place in Glendale on Northern and 67th) and found 4 pathfinders. On my printout, one was a 1995, and the other 3 were 1998, 2001 and 2004. Checked out the 1995 and found a few things that would be handy, then noticed that the "1998" was actually a 1993 with a NEAR PERFECT dash...as in ZERO Cracks anywhere on the dash. What Sorcery is this? A Pathfinder dash with no cracks? So, a few hours and a slight farmer tan later, I depart for the house with a complete dash, center console and armrest...all a bit dirty, but with zero cracks and all fully functional!! As a reference point, I'm posting pics of the "current interior" which I will describe as "80's confusion"... CURRENT INTERIOR
4. Seems like a Deja Vu here? (This is a variation of a post I made before the site went bat$#!t last week) So, I had an opportunity to pickup a sister Pathfinder for my 95 Pathfinder Roamer last week. I found a pathy on Craigslist and walked away (after even having them deliver it to the house!) with a 1993 Pathfinder for $750. Currently has 182K on the speedo, and it's in relatively great shape! The original question was...Taking a poll...what do you guys think I should do with it? Fix it up and have a great, low-cost sister for the 95 Pathy, or Tear it down and pull off all the doors, build in a roll cage, and turn it into a Polaris upgrade Side by Side UTV with buckets in front and back? Let me know your thoughts!! (Yes...$750!!) ~Hans (In the previous thread I mentioned that I had issues posting with Photobucket, and have switched now to Imgur, and it's AWESOME, and SIMPLE.) Pics of the build as it was on day 1 when I bought it (May 6th) Yes...
5. and there's some serious Sorcery going on in the fron seat..I have NO IDEA WTF the past owners were thinking...
6. Here's the back, well from yesterday anyway...looks pretty different today...Updates coming
7. THANKS! That was literally PAINLESS... Ok, so here's the truck Pics...not horrible for $750!!
8. Hey all! So I just picked up this 93 Pathy today..for $750. Zero Rust, slight drip in the water pump, and a slight shift in the front left bumper mount, but all in all, runs great... 182K. esthetically...it's a 5, interior is a 4, but overall mechanical is a 7.5... So, I'm torn between turning it into a Semi Good Weekend small-Rock Crawler, or stripping it, pulling the doors, building out a roll cage and gutting it and making it into a Side-By Side UTV with buckets in front and back...yanking the liftgate, cutting out part of the roof and pretty much turning it into a Street Legal Polaris variant... So, lets take a vote!! I already have a 95 pathy daily driver with a 3" lift kit, but this looks like fun! What do you think??? ~Hans NOTE:** I was attempting to upload a pic to Photobucket, but the damn site is so overwhelmed with ads that it wouldn't even let me upload around the 40 ad popups..Wow...Do we have a different site that we can use? This forum wont accept google photo links...*** Any ideas?? Thanks!
9. UPDATE**** Didn't get a chance to update this thread due to travel and the holidays... Turns out it was the ONLY ignition component that I didn't replace. The Distributor. The assembly was just fine, but the sensor on the assembly would apparently work fine while cold, but when it got warm, it went bat@!*% and started to send erratic signals to the ECU, which interrupted the pulse signal to the coil, causing intermittent operation of the coil, and intermittent spark to the plugs... Isolated the issue, then got the part on order, since the dealership didnt even have one on hand. Autozone got me one the next morning, and the dealership installed it, verified timing, and I was out the door. Total cost for the Distributor fro Autozone: $280, total cost from the dealer for the Troubleshooting and installation/timing: $191 I was floored. The dealership was awesome. Haven't EVER walked out of a dealership with less than a $700 bill for ANY vehicle before. Kept the old distributor, disassembling it so i can understand the entire assembly operation, and figure out why it went crazy when warm. I'll fill you all in with that later. Anyway, got it installed, and drove back to Phoenix with no issues. Since the replacement, however, I've gotten a solid 17-19 mpg and LOTS more power.
10. Thanks for the reply. That is actually the Coolant Temp Sensor, and I already replaced that one, as mentioned, but THANKS A BUNCH for your speedy reply. That's one more reason I really enjoy this site! So... After standing side by side with mechanics at Sid Dillon Nissan (who were also scratching their heads...these guys were awesome and their service was excellent. Very stoked at how they worked with me standing side by side with them troubleshooting the problem) we isolated the problem to the following conditions: When cold, runs great. As it becomes progressively warmer, performance goes to @!*% out...but correspondingly, the ignition starts to go haywire, and if too much gas is applied, you get backfires... So, the conclusion is the distributor assembly, which has a position sensor which has gone to @!*%. Of course, no one in this city has one, so a complete assembly is on its way to be here by 10am...in the middle of an ice storm... Now..is that the 100% guarantee as to the problem?. I guess we'll see. Let me know your thoughts. I enjoy hearing everyone's perspective!!
11. Can't isolate WHERE the CHTS is located?? Dont have any reference data that talks about it, even after looking through the FSM...
12. So...Ive posted pics under the Newbie section previously of my Pathy "Romy". Ive rarely had any issues with her since purchasing her, and I drive back and forth halfway across the US due to work, etc. Headed out of Omaha 2 nights ago, started to get a squeal at about 2500 rpm. Turned into a major squeal at 3,000. Figured maybe just a loose belt, and was going to pull off and take a peek at it when the engine suddenly started to run like @!*%. Felt like it just went into crap mode like somebody threw a switch. No gradual decrease, just 100% operation to barely 25%...had the gas all the way to the floor just to get to an offramp and limped it into a gas station so I could do some quick troubleshooting. Figured out ultimately that the squeal was due to the fan clutch seizing up. Strange ass place for that to happen, but, tighter than a new guy in prison. Now, on to the next issue...thought the rough running issue may have been ignition related...however I had literally just replaced everything (plugs, rotor, distrib cap, wires, coil) 3 weeks ago...although they can still fail, so, since everything pointed to ignition, got the local "A-Zone" to order the parts for arrival the next morning, so...got a ride to a hotel and a friend who happened to live in Lincoln carted me around and helped me pick up parts...So, I swap out the coil, dist cap, rotor and even dump an alternator into the mix..just in case. Vrooom! Started right up, sat and idled for a while, then I started to head back west...and as soon as the op temp got up higher, performance went to @!*% again. felt like fuel went full rich. Limped it to the Autozone parking lot, made it just before it died...and back at troubleshooting...went through everything I could think of...even down to pulling off the timing covers and verifying that the timing hadn't skipped. Everything was good. timing was perfect. put everything back together. I even pulled all the plugs, swapped out another dist cap and rotor, and threw it all back together...engine was ice cold. (mind you, Lincoln, NE..all work was in 7deg weather with 15mph wind...cold as hell). Went to start...Vrooom! Started up, revved it up to 4,000rpm a few times...ran smooth as silk... until it warmed up...then Whammo...back to @!*%. So..by this time, nothing left to do because it's already dark and i'm worn out. So, over to a hotel to jump onto the forums. Go through the FSM and try to figure out everything I can, and isolate it to potentially the O2 sensor or the Coolant temp sensor... So back out I go this morning. Nice cold engine, starts up and purrs. I disconnected the O2 sensor connector to isolate it from the ECM, since its freezing cold outside, and once it warms up, we're back to square one...runs like @!*%, degrades then wont run at all. So..before it quit again, and while it was idling, I swapped the connector from the coolant temp sensor onto a new sensor, and voila, the rpm kicked up for a few moments, but it still wouldnt rev, and still ran like @!*%. Took about an additional 3 minutes before it died again. So..back to square one. No choice left but to AAA it to the local Nissan dealer. (My ass already hurts from the thought). Currently sitting in the service dept waiting room for 2 hrs (when promised it would be looked at within an hour). SO, I'm taking bets. Anyone care to wager their best guess as to: A) What is actually wrong with it? How much of an ass-raping this is going to be in $$ Very interested in feedback here guys.. FAST feedback. Thanks! -Sas
13. This looks awesome. Was this an actual Xterra rack, or a mod kit to look like one. I'm asking because I've been wanting the same type of Xterra rack, and wasn;t sure of the fit. I have 2 Xterras in a local JY and it would be simple to just yank the racks off and mod them accordingly...
14. This is pretty awesome, and it gives me some ideas for my 95.
15. Ok, this thread has been awesome. I'm going to be changing out my tranz fluid in the am, and this has really helped me out. REALLY glad I found this forum. I'll fill you in on any issues, etc. Wish me luck! HA! ~Hans
16. Truck-box Pics As I stated previously, I recently removed the back seats and installed a truck box / platform. This way I can store "Second Amendment Items" easily without them being visible to people looking in the windows. I'll post a thread on the full installation process for those interested. Let me know your thoughts! ~Hans
17. Hey All, Introduced myself on the newbie thread a couple days ago. Wanted to post a few pics of my 95 XE "Gypsy Roamer" or "Romi" as I call her...is it weird to name your Pathy? Anyway, I'm doing a number of mods on her, and when I first purchased her in AZ last Oct for $1,000, I immediately had to take her to the mid-west without so much as a shakeout drive test, (and while there are many little quirks) she performed like a champ. Since then she's been all over the Midwest and Southwest USA. As noted, a number of little things have come up, but overall, I've become a Pathfinder nut. I used to own a helicopter company, so this "hobby" costs me alot less than my previous "hobby" and the wife doesn't mind me spending money on "Romi" (aka, the other woman) after we spent a week driving all over half the country in her. I've literally been through 4 blizzards this past winter, and she drove through snow like nobody's business, and even pulled out 3 Ford Excursions from being stuck in snow drifts. So, I'll be on this site alot, as I have a bad habit of taking ALOT of progress pics, and I like to help other people in areas that I've had trouble, so...here goes!! I'm putting a 3" body lift on her in a week or two, and I will post STEP BY STEP pics of the lift, to include costs, hardware pics, and where I got the parts (didn't do the kit direction because they aren't easy to come by anymore). I've added the following from JY pathfinders in the PHX area in the past few months: 1)Spare Tire Swing Away Rack ($35) 2) Side Running boards (Nerf bars) ($15ea) 3) Front Mesh Grille from 88 Pathy (I like it much better than the 95 grille) ($10) 4) Front Brush Guard/Bull Bar ($45) 5) Wider Rims (With 31" tires - $48 each tire/rim combo=$192) First non-JY I've done on her was the recent addition of some NEW 31x10.5x15's. ($650 Discount Tire). The JY tires had some uneven spots, and while great for tear-assing through the mud, they went quite haywire at 70mph. Total costs into this build has been $1,000 for the buy, and $325(approx) for the JY stuff, plus the $650 for the tires, so we're still just around $2,000 for the current $$ count. Second addition recently was removal of all of the rear seats and replacement with a huge box/platform. I'll post pics of that as well, throughout the full build. Ok, enough chat for now. Pics are posted for reference points in the current build. Next comes: 1) 3" Body Lift 2) New Front and Rear bumpers (Custom build) 3) Improved bull bar/Brush Guard with winch assy 4) Paint...I have no idea what color I really want... 5) Transmission work...more to talk about there... 6) whatever else I can think of.... I INVITE feedback, advice, insults and just honest input, so please feel free to comment and throw me a bone!! Enjoy! ~Hans
18. Any idea on the price of these spacers?
19. Hello all! Relatively new member, but not new to the Pathfinder. Current pathy is a 95 Black 4WD XE that I have given the nickname "Gypsy Roamer" as I've been running this thing from AZ to NE to TX and back in the last year. Have developed a pretty good bond with her, and I'm in the process of continual mods, upgrades and additions while continuing to squeeze every bit of life, power and mileage out of her! As I complete upgrades and mods I'll be taking pics and posting step by step progress pics on everything from her upcoming body and suspension lifts, custom bumpers and grilles, etc. I'll also be trying to extract every bit of knowledge I can from the experienced members here in order to keep from reinventing the proverbial wheel! I look forward to your comments, feedback, blistering humiliation and general comraderie as I jump into this new direction! Thanks for making such a great site!! Hans
