  1. Same question, but I'm in Canada. The most basic of bars seem to retail starting at around $500 USD (+Shipping and Customs) and they barely do anything.
  2. Ah yes I looked it up, it's not 100 but it almost seems like it. I know someone with the 3.3L and they told me they don't feel safe passing vehicles uphill and such because it feels so gutless. His is auto and mine is 5-speed so maybe that has something to do it but I drive very calmly most of the time.
  3. This. I experienced the same thing in my 240SX and the rack was seizing.
  4. Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade, that's a 100 horsepower difference is it not?
  5. Everyone once in a while it's good to re-torque a few things that begin to rattle loose after driving on a few hundred KM on a washboard FSR. I have a bit of a background with Nissan's having previously built a 240SX track car, and I know the damage a few loose bolts can do. I guess my question is, if you only had 30 minutes to crawl around/under your Pathfinder before the zombie apocalypse, which bolts would you tighten?
  6. Okanagan huh? Want to pick some parts up for me too?
  7. Nevermind, disregard, I'm dumb. I thought it was RB20 swap... 255
  8. Huh? An RB is hard to find parts for? Complete swaps with transmissions, turbo, and harnesses around here sell for like $1000... And the aftermarket is a hell of a lot cheaper from what I've seen. The downside of an RB is that they don't have as much low end torque, the turbo makes up for it but that's unpredictable spooling which wouldn't be ideal in some 4x4 situations.
  9. Posted the same pic/story on Reddit as shown above and there are lots of angry comments, nobody believes me - They think the Ford is towing me...
  10. Great point, didn't even consider this.
  11. Fluery on the forum has a really affordable spacer lift kit that gives you up to 3 inches of lift. I can't quite comment yet, but my 2 inch kit is in the mail as I type this. By my math, a 2 inch spacer lift in the front and rear, accompanied with 265-275 sidewall tires = 4 inches of lift from stock. I ordered from www.4x4design.com 93
  12. Hey guys, I'm relatively new to 4x4ing but have a good idea of how vehicles work. I've had a few project cars before but am new to the truck life. I've seen a few YouTube videos regarding 4x4 techniques and almost all of them have brought up left-foot braking. The idea is while you're in 4x4, you gently press the brake while you give some throttle and since this puts resistance on every wheel the differentials distribute power a little more evenly to the tires regardless of their actual traction. It sounds good in theory but I guess my question for this is... How effective is this, actually? Would this technique benefit me if I were say, stuck in mud or other low traction situations? How hard is this on the drive train of a 4x4 vehicle? Since there are multiple differentials in play I'd imagine this has the potential to damage something. Why is the sky blue? Thanks for taking your time to read my post.
  13. Hey guys, I'm curious if anyone else carries spare parts with them when they hit the trail or go on a long expedition into the wild. Since I just picked up my R50 I don't have much, but so far this is what I carry: Full sized spare tire. Stock emergency jack & tire iron. Mastercraft socket set. Full sized Leatherman multi-tool. 1 liter of spare oil. 1 jug of windshield wiper fluid. 1 roll of duct tape. 23L can of potable water doubles for coolant in emergency. And I'll soon be grabbing a tire plug kit, a can of that stop-leak gunk for your tires, and a small portable compressor so I can air up/down. However, I'm looking to see what people take with them to fix particularly nasty things they might encounter while 4x4ing... control arms and the such... What do you carry?
  14. Por-15 then paint over it with whatever.
  15. Alright boys, time to pepper your angus because I'm about to drop the wisdom. Me and muh boys went into the woods to start a fire, shoot some guns, roast some dogs, etc. Some guy comes skidding by in a rental truck and about an hour later we see someone walking back down. Long story short, my stock 2001 Pathfinder helped pull a 2015 F-150 4x4 out of the snow. 46
  16. Does anyone have any suggestions for trails or adventures for a mostly-stock R50? Lately I'm just exploring FSR's around here, but I've found out about things like the Whipsaw Trail and thought the idea of a planned challenge was pretty cool. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like my vehicle is capable of the Whipsaw until I get my lift and bigger tires, I was hoping others could make some suggestions?
  17. I know this thread is old as dirt, but I feel it needs a bump. Hello!
  18. Bump! 20,000Lb tow strap (9,500Lb working capacity) 200 feet of Paracord Jumper Cables Socket/Screwdriver/Toolkit (& Vehicle Haynes Manual) Mechanics Gloves 23 Liter Water Can First Aid Kit Camelbak (Mule) 3L /w Knife, Firestarter, Food Garmin GPS Watch ****** handheld Cobra radio, spare batteries (Soon to be replaced by proper CB) Small foldable shovel/pickaxe Medium sized Axe Insulated, waterproof, welted hiking boots & socks Backroads map book, hunting, fishing regulations Savage MKII .22 Bolt Action Rifle & Ammo (Usually ~200-400 rounds) Spare blanket and/or towel Spare jacket Sleeping bag (just in case I get stuck out there...) Zebralight headlamp Full sized spare tired & stock emergency jack/tire iron And of course I always try to dress/prepare for the trip. Call someone and tell them where you're going and when you plan to be back, always carry a knife and firestarter on you. Always have a plan, bring foods, etc. Some things I want for the future are: A proper snatch strap, a proper d-ring shackle for my tow/recovery setup, a shotgun, a better radio of some sort, a fire extinguisher, roof rack, jerry can.
  19. 160 I just ordered Fluery's coil spacer lift kit (2 inches!) but while I'm doing that... I noticed that the rear springs would be relatively easy to replace if I wanted to. My question is, is it worth it? My R50 has 260K KM on it, OEM (but replaced with recall, so less mileage than 260K) suspension, including springs. Would it be worth replacing the springs while I'm back there? Are there better springs I could order for the rear?
  20. 105 Welcome, what kind of roof rack is that?
  21. Damn, the mounts look like they would be similar in every picture I've seen. I suppose I will just need to go see it in person to find out.
  22. 62 Hey guys, I recently picked up my first ever 4x4, I've been a Nissan guy pretty much forever and I wanted an off-road/camping/hunting vehicle so this fit the build. I got a reasonable deal on a 2001 R50 in good shape. 2001 Pathfinder SE 3.5L VQ35DE 5-Speed Manual Bone Stock Immediate issues include the temp gauge not really going up to what I consider "operating temperature" - My Haynes manual just came in so testing in should be easy enough. The two front wheel bearings are starting to show some wear. And there is a little bit of rust developing on the drivers side fender that I intend to Por-15 the @!*% out of, it'll look better than rust. Plans for future, or possibly not so distant future include getting some lock-tight on the intake butterfly valves because I hear that's a problem. Getting some WARN manual locking hubs. Possibly a 4 inch frame lift and 32 inch wheels to match, but this is not a priority. My goals for the vehicle is something reliable that I can 4x4 with lightly, go camping, hunting, fishing, etc. I live in Canada BC so I have a lot of wilderness to take advantage of.
  23. As the title states, Will bush bumper from 2003 Xterra fit 2001 Pathfinder? 39 Not a great pic, but this is what the seller posted:
