  1. Well, I bought my pathy with the TM lift and as most know, includes a torsion bar drop down bracket to help keep the stock alignment angles. Well, I was out wheeling today and one of my friends has a yota with torsion bars that mount to the UCA. I was wondering if it would be possible to get some yota UCA's and change the torsion bars to attach to the new UCA's and get rid of the drop down bracket and gain more center clearance. I don't know a whole lot about IFS, so I dunno what this could mess up, but it seemes like a reasonable solution to gain more center clearance, assuming it won't mess up everything. Let me know your thoughts....
  2. I had a similar problem with my 94. On the positive battery post, there is a few wires going into some small connectors. For me at least, one of the wires was out of the connector, sometimes causing the whole dash and power windows and everything to just go off while the pathy kept on running. Really sucked coming home from church one Sunday in July with the windows up and A/C on, especially because I got to drive another 10 miles on the highway with no power anything and just sitting in a sweat box! Hope yours works out where that doesn't happen!
  3. 67" should fit a 2 door? I'll PM him I guess and see what he thinks. Thanks for the help and I'll let you know what I end up doing.
  4. When I had my 94, I wondered the same thing. I couldn't get more then 250 or 260 on a tank of gas. Never figured mine out either, so I'd be interested to see what you can discover. Sucks though when everyone else on here talks about getting better mpg
  5. Can anyone help me out real quick. I have a 87 2 door and was wondering what a good length for some rock sliders would be. I've found some 67" and 68" and didn't know if there was going to be enough room for wheel travel if I got some that long. I did measure about 72" between wheels on mine, but it's too far from me for a few days and I would like to purchase soon. TIA!
  6. When I put a battery in my pathy, the drivers side tail light comes on. It's currently disconnected, but I didn't know if anyone else has had this problem or if I just need to chase my wires and see what's up. TIA
  7. Ok thanks for the input. Started bending the shifter tonight with it in, but couldn't get it to bend far enough, so tomorrow I'm going to take it out and get it bent. After looking at it for a while, I figured that would be my first option over cutting the floor as I like having a boot there and not having to mod anything else.
  8. Did you get the 3" Lift ones? Let me know how they work out when you get them one. I really need to get some and get rid of my brackets from TM to move down the bump stops.
  9. Thanks for the help, the plugs were different but someone already made an adapter on the new one I put on the 87, so it worked out great! Put it on and the pathy cranked right up!
  10. That's not too bad of an idea... may consider that later on. Just got her running last night and did some testing for the 4wd. With the BL, it won't go in 4Lo right now (need to notch out the floor), but in 4 Hi, I did everything my friends CJ-5 could do in 4-Lo, my friend was VERY impressed. Not too bad for putting a starter on a pathy that's sat for 6 years and cranking it right up and taking it for a couple test climbs.... Thanks for the help all and I'll let you know how my weekend wheeling goes with the TM lift!
  11. Probably what I'm going to end up doing... probably the easiest anyhow. Thanks everyone for the input and the help.
  12. Yes, the TM lift essentially moves everything down to maintain stock angles on everything but the drive shaft, IIRC. So I should still be able to crank the torsion bars.... The thing I don't like the most is the fact that the TM lift drops down the torsion bars so they are the lowest point from the front tires back to the center of the vehicle. Would I be able to remove the torsion bar drop down bracket and get some heavier duty torsion bars and just crank them more so that I have better center clearance? I haven't looked yet to see if there is even a straight line for that to work, and now that I think about it, that's probably why they drop them in that kit. Thanks for all the help, I will be putting a starter on it tonight and seeing what else it needs to run right, and hopefully be hitting the trails this weekend to see how the TM lift really performs.....
  13. Where are you getting them from? I haven't had any luck getting a hold of anyone at RC
  14. Ok, so here's the deal.... I bought an 87 2 door with a TM 4" SL on it, but as most of you know, the TM lift does nothing more than allow for bigger tires, basically. I'm wanting a lift that can give me some more clearance, even if it means losing an inch on lift..... So my question is... is there anyway of doing this without completely switching out lift kits? Could I simply move the torsion bars back to stock location and crank them and possibly get some Rough Country UCA's, then just make the remove the rest of the front lift components and call it good? Or do you think that is more trouble than it's worth and I should keep my current set-up as is, letting my 33's give me clearance? I like how the TM lift keeps the IFS at basically stock position, but I wish I had a bit more clearance up front. Thanks for the input!
  15. Thanks for all the info, you seem to have done a lot of homework on this one. Shocks are the next thing for me to check on my pathy after I get the spacers out of there... I just find it dumb to put a 4" lift on that doesn't accomplish anything besides sitting higher. But it was on when I bought it so I'll start working with it. Thanks again!
  16. Sorry for the stupid question... but with the XJ-C lift springs, how much lift did you get over stock? You said you had XJ-C springs on before the lift springs, so was the 3" of lift additional the lift you got with just the regular XJ-C springs over stock springs? Reason I ask.... I just bought a pathfinder (my second, sold the first) that has a Trail Master 4" SL but they just put spacers on the springs and moved the bumpstop down so I don't have any additional travel and I want the same amount of lift, but with more suspension travel, and sounds like these could be the springs for me....
  17. Hey guys, does anyone know if a starter off of a 1990 pathfinder will fit on a 87? I would just look and see but I only have one close and the other is yet to be picked up from about 100 miles away.... as always, TIA
  18. When it starts locking itself like that, don't touch the handle and unlock, lock, and then unlock it again. It should work. I got this down to an art on mine and everyone who rode with me knew about it to. As it was said, this IS a common problem and there have been some write ups on it. I just found it easier to live with it since there seemed to only be a few people who actually "fixed" the problem.
  19. Mine did that all time... it got to where if I needed to warm up the car I would crack one of the back windows so I could get back in if it locked itself.
  20. Might be a stupid thing to check, but if the new brakes (assuming they're new) are disc, make sure the calipers are on the right sides. My dad is building an old car right now and was having that problem with his brakes and found out that the new calipers had the brake line coming out of the bottom (IIRC) instead of the top and when switched, they worked fine.
  21. It sure doesn't look stock height to me. I had 31x10.5x15's on mine without a lift for a few months with no problems... they looked like they were crammed in the wheel wells but they didn't rub or anything on mine.
  22. Just an FYI... I got some 5x8's in mine without having to trim anything... but you may have to
  23. Thanks, that's what it was... new connector and some crimpers and all is well again...
  24. The other night I was driving home and just as I pulled into my neighborhood (luckily) my headlights went out. So I drove the rest of the way home with my hazards on. Checked fuses and bulbs, both good. Any ideas? Also, when I looked under the dash for an loose or broken wires, I found these connectors and didn't know what they were for and if they should be connected or not.
