Fluid level of transmission or of clutch cylinder.? I did not notice any change in pedal feel. Just did a flush of the fluid in the clutch cyl. tonight. no difference. thanks for the feedback....any other ideas:?

Hello all. I tried searching and did not find what i appear to be experiencing. I am starting to get a grinding sound/feel when shifting 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. not 3 to 4 or 4 to 5. It just started yesterday. I am wondering what is making this. not enough transmission fluids. worn out clutch. etc.... It grinds for a sec then slips into gear. clutch pedal is fully pressed when it occurs. thanks matthew

Distributor? my pathfinder is completely sluggish at low rpm past 2500 or so its ok. I need (so i think i need) a new distributor. Just a guess.... Matthew

1.) I will guess rear link bushings. 2.) If you dont want them i will buy them....the old lady's pathy will benefit from keeping the sway bar while being able to disconect. My pathy doesnt have any sway bars front or rear and i love it. leans in sharp corners but fine for overall use. 3.) Once againg a guess...front UCA parts.... 4.) Some is better than none. A spare is always welcome in my parts bag. 5.) The bolt looks too short to be a body to frame bolt. Maybe its a bolt for the rear links...they look like that...could go with the bushings? 6.) no clue here.....sorry

Ok....so heres the deal. I am interested an a pathfinder. I just want some advice. The good: only 190K on the motor newer automatic trans. approx 20k on it good interior 2" body lift 2 good 32" tires. The bad: Front end collision needs new drivers side quarter pannels needs new hood. needs new rad support (rad is still good needs new headlings needs new tie rods. Cl... basically new steering stuff. needs 2 tires some rear end body damage paint after new parts??? I bought both of my pathfiners for $500 each. both needed new water pumps but otherwise nothing major. The owner wants $800 I just dont know if $800 is worth it? that do you think?

I have heard good things about General Tire's Grabber AT2 (they redesigned them reciently). I stress that i heard this. I personally rock the BFG AT KO's and i love them. You can also go to a JY and get some stock steel wheels for cheap and run some generic tire for street and switch to the MT or AT for off-road. I found a set of 4 used tires with almost 10k miles left on them at the local jeep dealer (inside the crap tire recycle bin = Free tires) and had BIG O mount them on stock rims for $20. I use them on my 2nd pathfinder and they work well for street use. This way you can have a quiet and almost free street tire and then switch when you go wheelin to not sacrifice any offroad abitilites gained by MT tires. Matthew

will post pics of how it is now as well as the install hopefully once i get to the jy thanks for the info....you guys rock!

Thanks for the advice. I was and still am leaning to going to the jy and replacing it myself. I just dont want the screw up my motor.

correct me if i am wrong.....even if i time it correctly, i need to replace it due to the cap not being fixed to the distributor correctly and the fact that the rotor rubs inside the cap....right? i dont know much about this... will fixing this give me more power to climb over stuff or am i waisting my time on a $500 vehicle? (4cyl. 5spd. 4.6 gears (according to the door tag) and 31s )

One of the two scews that holds the cap onto the distributor broke, and was prevously drilled out. (this is his explanation of possibly what happened.) the issue is that the new hole that was drilled is not in the same place as it was before. so the rotor rubs inside the cap in addition to it being not in tune. so i need to get it alligned so that the rotor does not wear a hole in the side of the cap.....(replace the distributor....)

I spoke with the mech that was working on it. (my friend does some of the books for the shop and made it free for the diagnosis) and the mech said that the dist was "frozen even after soaking it with BP blaster" and it would not twist, so a new one is needed.

My 87 4cyl pathfinder has been idleing a little funky, most reciently, when trying to climb over rocks on a moderate - difficult trail, the truck would bog down and stall out....i would have to slip the clutch to make it over the obstical. I friend of mine that woks at a shop have it diagonsed for free. the mech said that whoever repaced the cap and rotor last broke a screw then re-drilled it to make the hole, but did it wrong and the timing is off because of it. I will need to replace the distributor, cap and rotor. Would the distributor cause this type of problem? The issue is that the distributor is $250 for a rebuilt one. (I bought the car for $500) Can i go to a jy and just get one out of a truck or pathy for like $50 and if so, how hard is it? estimat of parts + labor is approx (at the mech) $542.50 for dist, cap, rotor, plugs (re-use wires.) what do you guys and gals think? Check the tag under the hood. Mine is pressed into the pass quarter panel near the firewall in the engine bay. near the bottom of the tag it will have an HG##... or something like that Mine is a HG43 = 4.3 gear ratio HG46 is the 4.6 gear ratio. Matthew

I used that stuff a couple of times on my 87 4cyl with 225k I did not think that there was any change. I started to use BG products and i am now using an oil additive from them called MOA. The only thing I can tell is less oil consumption. I believe that it is designed only to restore engine seals..... I dont know if any of them actually work like they say they do.... Matthew

As far as i know it will fit just fine. just let me know...

I am leaning toward a 33x9.5x15 SuperSwamper. I have a set of cheap tires that i use for street use, so tire life should hopefully not be an issue. I just dont want to go too thin....
-
What exactly are the benefits of running a 33x9.5x15 versus a 33/12.50/15? I kinda like the look of the skinny tire and am wondering if there is a benefit or cost to running one? Tires in the 33+ size in a 9.5 or 10.5 width seem kinda hard to find. BFG, SuperSwapers, maybe a few others make them but thats it! Matthew

Are you in need of a radiator??? i have an extra 87 V6 5spd.

Simon is correct! Matthew

I'll take ten copies of that book and the DVD! what a first post!!

Correct me if i am wrong .....(as i am sure you will) I believe that the H233B out of a V6 Pathfinder will fit in with no major issues. There are more options for lockers and the such for the H233.

Was it hard to remove the diffs? I have purchased a donor pathy to remove the diffs already. Its an 87 open carrier, so that i can lockrite it. Thanks! Matthew
