  1. Nunya, Totally agree about the trustworthiness of the WD21. I've owned the '95 since it was new and it's been the least trouble of any vehicle I've ever had. That's why I bought ahardbody's '94 earlier this year to replace it. I'd love to turn it over to someone who would do something with it besides scrap it, but with the frame rust and a tranny that won't shift into 4th gear (no one who looked at it could figure out why) I doubt there can be any other fate for it.
  2. SpecialWarr: Sounds like your truck really is special! If ever we cross paths, I owe you a beer.
  3. I explored the welding options for a while and then realized I could buy a replacement Pathfinder with no rust for basically the same amount I'd have to sink into my rusted out one. Maybe we could get together sometime to compare the cancer levels on the old trucks. Guy with most rust wins a beer! Mine has 15 years of Minnesota road salt under its belt. Not pretty. Just keeping it to strip out some interior stuff that is still in good shape. Also, tranny won't shift into 4th gear. Engine still wants to keep running forever, which makes me sad to give it up.
  4. Madhakish, I'm in St. Paul, so I know exactly what you are talking about. My '95 rusted out from under me. Still have it just because I'm not done taking parts from it. I bought a '94 SE from another board member who lives in Florida earlier this year. No rust and because he was a board member I knew he'd taken care of it. Was no big deal to fly down and drive it back. I'd consider the same option if I were you. But of course if you need something right now you might have to look elsewhere. Good luck!
  5. Will look forward to the plasti tutorial.
  6. OK. I'll give you a call today or Monday. I refuse to have any contact with local dealer since their mechanics tried to kill me by telling me a bad vibration I was getting from my '95 was due to cupped tires when it was really a cracked control arm.
  7. Rob, I need a power steering return hose for '94 SE. Can you let me know price and I'll give you a call and get it ordered? Thanks.
  8. Tell us more about the plastidip job. Thinking of doing that to my black '94 to cover up some faded paint.
  9. Welcome! As owner of a 2000 BMW 740il, I can relate. Very different vehicles, Pathfinders and Bimmers, but great in their own ways.
  10. If it's the alternator you won't get far before the truck dies. I'd just find the time to run it around your neighborhood for awhile. You charge the battery if that's all you need and are close to home if you've got worse problems. Sure the people on your block might think you're crazy for driving in circles, but at least you can pull it to the curb and walk back to your place to wait for a tow rather than be stuck somewhere you don't want to be. If I sound like the voice of experience when it comes to having a Pathfinder with a dying alternator it's because I've been there.
  11. It's been well-documented that pre-2000 model year cars are thieves' favorite targets these days. Most everything made after 2000 have much harder to defeat anti-theft systems that can make it very difficult to start a car or do much else to it without a key. Pre-2000s are much easier pickings, regardless of make. Where I live pre-2000 Hondas are often targeted because parts are still much in demand. Best if you love your Pathy to do what you can to safeguard it with whatever combination you deem necessary - secure garage, alarm, Lojack, even club the wheel when you lock it up. True pros can defeat most defenses, if they have enough time and will. But since most thefts are more about targets of opportunity, you can scare away a lot of the punks and meth heds who are stupid and ready to move on to the easier option.
  12. OK, I'll take a closer look this week.
  13. Yep, two mounted in the roof at the back, near the lift gate. Just like my '95 XE. Believe that six-speaker setup (two front, two back, tweeters in the pillars) was standard in 94-95. Haven't taken the tape measure to them but they're rectangular, about as wide as a iPhone is long and about one and a half times as long as an iPhone. The fallback is to take the ones out of my '95 and put 'em in the '94, since I'm going be getting rid of the 95. But the point of this is to have a new sound system rather than a new head unit and 20 year old speakers.
  14. I'd say the stock ones in back are rectangular while most everything I've found so far in 5x7 sizes are more oval in shape. Not sure how the old covers would fit over them.
  15. So I'm getting set to replace the speakers in my '94 SE. I have ones ready for the front doors. My question is does anyone know whether you can get identically shaped ones to replace the stock rear roof speakers and the tweeters on the pillars at front of the cabin? I'd like to keep the interior as close to original as possible and was hoping to get by with only the head unit obviously not looking stock.
  16. Congrats! Glad you found one you like. Happy wrenching!
  17. I had a '94 Grand Cherokee as a second vehicle for several years. Tranny dropped dead a little after 150,000 miles. Hope you have better luck if you take the plunge.
  18. First one was gold. 'New' one is black with some grey patches thrown in where the sun has taken its toll on paint. Gotta take care of that.
  19. I'm pretty good at confusing myself in trying to keep straight the various maladies of my two aging 4x4s, the daughter's aging 4x4 and another aging sedan, so I can use the correction now and again.
  20. Yep, my bad. Dingo has a single serpentine belt that runs everything. Not the big happy family of belts on the Pfinders.
  21. Yeah, it was like -20 here when it happened to the Dingo. I took a look at the engine bay and could see pieces of belt everywhere and was like, no, I'm not getting frostbite trying to dig through this engine playing find thebelt shards. Was worth it to pay someone else to do it.
