SpecialWarr: Sounds like your truck really is special! If ever we cross paths, I owe you a beer.
-
I explored the welding options for a while and then realized I could buy a replacement Pathfinder with no rust for basically the same amount I'd have to sink into my rusted out one. Maybe we could get together sometime to compare the cancer levels on the old trucks. Guy with most rust wins a beer! Mine has 15 years of Minnesota road salt under its belt. Not pretty. Just keeping it to strip out some interior stuff that is still in good shape. Also, tranny won't shift into 4th gear. Engine still wants to keep running forever, which makes me sad to give it up.

Madhakish, I'm in St. Paul, so I know exactly what you are talking about. My '95 rusted out from under me. Still have it just because I'm not done taking parts from it. I bought a '94 SE from another board member who lives in Florida earlier this year. No rust and because he was a board member I knew he'd taken care of it. Was no big deal to fly down and drive it back. I'd consider the same option if I were you. But of course if you need something right now you might have to look elsewhere. Good luck!

Check Battery Light on with AT oil temp slightly light up
FeelthePathos95 replied to ONCEBITN's topic in The Garage
If it's the alternator you won't get far before the truck dies. I'd just find the time to run it around your neighborhood for awhile. You charge the battery if that's all you need and are close to home if you've got worse problems. Sure the people on your block might think you're crazy for driving in circles, but at least you can pull it to the curb and walk back to your place to wait for a tow rather than be stuck somewhere you don't want to be. If I sound like the voice of experience when it comes to having a Pathfinder with a dying alternator it's because I've been there. -
THE MRJIM PATHFINDER HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM SNOHOMISH, WA
FeelthePathos95 replied to MrJim's topic in General Forums
It's been well-documented that pre-2000 model year cars are thieves' favorite targets these days. Most everything made after 2000 have much harder to defeat anti-theft systems that can make it very difficult to start a car or do much else to it without a key. Pre-2000s are much easier pickings, regardless of make. Where I live pre-2000 Hondas are often targeted because parts are still much in demand. Best if you love your Pathy to do what you can to safeguard it with whatever combination you deem necessary - secure garage, alarm, Lojack, even club the wheel when you lock it up. True pros can defeat most defenses, if they have enough time and will. But since most thefts are more about targets of opportunity, you can scare away a lot of the punks and meth heds who are stupid and ready to move on to the easier option. -
OK, I'll take a closer look this week.

Yep, two mounted in the roof at the back, near the lift gate. Just like my '95 XE. Believe that six-speaker setup (two front, two back, tweeters in the pillars) was standard in 94-95. Haven't taken the tape measure to them but they're rectangular, about as wide as a iPhone is long and about one and a half times as long as an iPhone. The fallback is to take the ones out of my '95 and put 'em in the '94, since I'm going be getting rid of the 95. But the point of this is to have a new sound system rather than a new head unit and 20 year old speakers.
-
I'd say the stock ones in back are rectangular while most everything I've found so far in 5x7 sizes are more oval in shape. Not sure how the old covers would fit over them.
-
So I'm getting set to replace the speakers in my '94 SE. I have ones ready for the front doors. My question is does anyone know whether you can get identically shaped ones to replace the stock rear roof speakers and the tweeters on the pillars at front of the cabin? I'd like to keep the interior as close to original as possible and was hoping to get by with only the head unit obviously not looking stock.

What did you do to your Pathfinder today?
FeelthePathos95 replied to RedRider3141's topic in The Garage
Sounds like you have two keepers. -
I had a '94 Grand Cherokee as a second vehicle for several years. Tranny dropped dead a little after 150,000 miles. Hope you have better luck if you take the plunge.

What color is your Pathfinder?
FeelthePathos95 replied to TeenZombie's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
First one was gold. 'New' one is black with some grey patches thrown in where the sun has taken its toll on paint. Gotta take care of that. -
Chances of timing belt breaking?
FeelthePathos95 replied to ChrisFreeman's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
I'm pretty good at confusing myself in trying to keep straight the various maladies of my two aging 4x4s, the daughter's aging 4x4 and another aging sedan, so I can use the correction now and again. -
Chances of timing belt breaking?

Yep, my bad. Dingo has a single serpentine belt that runs everything. Not the big happy family of belts on the Pfinders. -

FeelthePathos95 replied to ChrisFreeman's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Yeah, it was like -20 here when it happened to the Dingo. I took a look at the engine bay and could see pieces of belt everywhere and was like, no, I'm not getting frostbite trying to dig through this engine playing find thebelt shards. Was worth it to pay someone else to do it. -

FeelthePathos95 replied to ChrisFreeman's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
My daughter's Durango had a tensioner pulley seize up during the winter while she was driving. She and her boyfriend heard this loud crack as the belt snapped and slapped the underside of the hood. Dash lit up like Christmas, power steering immediately gone. Shop had to dig bits of the belt out from all over the engine bay. No serious damage done though, since she pulled over and shut it down right away. -
Help A/C just suddenly stopped working.
FeelthePathos95 replied to Stifun's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Had this happen to my '95 and found out I had a hole in the condenser. Since they are mounted low on the front, they are vulnerable to a rock or whatever hitting them. -

I've heard of them lasting past 125,000 miles, but when you wait past the recommended service interval you are rolling the dice and hoping you get lucky. -
My condolences to his family. So young!

There is a similar policy on another vehicle board I belong to and to keep it that way they sometimes solicit members for small donations in a no-pressure way to help with site costs. I'd rather see this board go that way, if it becomes necessary, than junk it up with ads.

I have never been on Facebook. I never will be on Facebook. Facebook is awful BS. NPORA is great as its own destination.

Liftgate supports removal mission impossible
FeelthePathos95 replied to turbonegro's topic in General Forums
+1 on the StrongArms. Put them on my '95 a year ago and it was quick and they work great. You can get a pair on Amazon for roughly $30. -
The question: standard NGKs vs. NGK Iridium? I'm seeing both on sale but thought I should ask if members prefer one over the other.

What does the XE stand for on 1991 Pathfinder model #
FeelthePathos95 replied to Captain_Crazy's topic in General Forums
My XE is power everything, heated mirrors. But no sun roof, no roof rack, tire carrier on the inside back left, which cuts down on storage room. Cloth seats. -
Opinions Pls. Repair or buy another Pathy
FeelthePathos95 replied to mikestewart395's topic in General Forums
I faced the same problem and made the same choice - get rid of the rusted frame Pathy and get one in better shape. No sense investing further in a car with a frame that can't be repaired. Car has to have good bones. My rusted Pathy just got me home through a blizzard last night and I love it, but we'll be parting ways next month when I pick up one that's in better shape. The money I have to invest will go into the sounder vehicle.
