2. And also my stock tires were 215/65/r15 or that's what Nissan claimed when I went to the dealer and got a full printout of my pathfinders history.
3. I didn't mean 5.13 I think that number was stuck in my head from reading a forum about upping the tires to 33s and that ratio would put the rpms back, my gear ratio is definitely lower, because my top speed at 5,700rpms is 165mph that was tested on a dyno though and I also was pulling 195 hp 260 lb ft of torque for if you guys are curious, and I had a kit installed to match the tire speed to my spedometer, then it broke so I learned to go by the rpms. And I got my fuel economy tested down near san fransisco on their track driving at varying speeds stopping and going, and flooring it and holding steady at high way and freeway speeds the max I got was 38.26mpg and that was at freeway speeds constant rpms, and not letting off the gas until the test was over.
4. It's about to go for @!*% when I convert my vg30i block to diesel but diesel means more power to plow through snow, crawl up hills, through mud and the ever so often when someone tries to revv their engineat a red light haha
5. No my tires are slightly larger with a way higher gear ratio. I'm running 235/75/r15 front and rear with a 5.13 gear ratio in the rear. That allowed for higher top speed at a way lower rpm. Faster at lower rpms means better fuel economy. If any of y'all are familiar with California, here's an example. I can drive from my town of grass valley, all the way to Petaluma and back home on a quarter tank, driving at 75mph, 5th gear the whole way at 1700rpms that averaged me about 38 mpg that was my highest, right after an oil change, New plugs and wires, and a fresh repacking of my wheel bearings along with new transfer case oil, front and rear diff oil, and tranny oil too, so I had zero restriction for that trip. I myself was amazed with the fuel economy after nissans ratings of 15-17mpg. Also I did my own little test, I filled my tank and zeroed out my trip gauge, by the time it was empty the trip gauge was at 593 averaging about 29.5 mpg and that included some city driving too
6. Took the upper and lower air pan off then removed the MAF and cleaned it with some isopropyl alcohol. I soaked my whole intake yesterday driving through the river and splashing around, and the check engine light came on and sounded like I was driving with a worn out 454 with a moody cam. Problem solved, pathy is happy and purrs like a kitten again =]
7. thanks for the welcome, and what town?? cuz id like to associate with more pathfinder owners around the area, maybe set up a day to go out and do some 4-wheeling.
8. nice i go to redding every year for the NHRDA. and no i travel a lot ive driven to new york and back and colorado a few times and phoenix and las vegas. i just like to drive haha.
9. Yes it had bolts at one point the brace is there there are just no bolts to worry about so its like taking off a carburetor lower pan =] but I figured out when I ran my codes I forgot to flip the switch back to normal mode on my ecu, problem solved and that smell I had, was just burning the isopropyl alcohol out cuz I cleaned out the entry as well, now check engine light is off and she purrs like a kitten again instead of sounding like a 454 with a lopey cam haha and yes mine is rigged for California's jacked up smog policy hopefully ten years from now they'll move the smog exempt year to after 88 and I can get rid of the smog crap

11. so i went out there, took it all apart and snapped some photos, i used rubbing alcohol as you suggested but it really wasnt that dirty to begin with, then afterwards, i fired it up and got a lot of odd smelling smoke coming out of the tailpipe, that may just be my cat burnt up, im not sure but then my check engine light started flashing the 1,2,3,4,5 thing that the cpu does... anyway heres some pics... btw the second pic was after i took the three screws out.
12. my pathfinder after a good thorough cleaning from this and myself, which i should post in the correct forum but since this is about me, what the heck.
13. So im not positive, but i think i may be a lucky one, my lower pan isnt held on by any bolts or anything, so i get the joy of not swearing at the japanese engineers. ive had the whole pan assembly off before and it was a breeze no pulling too hard or swearing at all. the swearing and yelling came when i had to figure out the hard way of changing my thermostat, that it is probably a million times easier if the intake manifold is off. needless to say, it worked, but thank you so much for this info. my next day off ill be sure to go and pickup some MAFS cleaner and come home and clean the hell out of that thing, i believe it may just be carbon on it though because of a huge backfire resulting in about a foot wide fireball shooting out of my intake last night then trying to smolder for a minute until i blew it out.
14. no the 324 out of a 1963 el camino, its a really small v8 engine but with tons of mods available
15. So I've been using this site for about just over a month now and someone suggested I head over here and introduce myself. I totally spaced out, but better late than never right?? So here we go. My name is Cory DeLaughter, I live in a very small town called Grass Valley, here in the sunny state of California. I'm 19 years old, and I currently work at a local smoothie place called Jamba Juice, part time, while looking for more work. I'm pretty capable of doing anything i need to to be able to keep myself on the road and driving safely, from engine work to suspension work to custom fabricating parts for performance. I drive a black and gray 1988 Nissan Pathfinder XE 5-speed with a VG30i TBI engine. I've owned it since November of 2011, got it with 205,xxx miles on the tach. She now sits comfortably at 320,xxx and is my daily driver to and from work, and during a lot of my off-road adventures, while unbelievably getting anywhere from 25-30mpg hwy, 16-20 city. As with working part-time, I'm on quite a budget, but after slowly but surely, I'm planning to either SAS it, or do a full front and rear independent suspension. but thats to talk about another time in another topic. Also I'm hoping to get close to 450hp out of this motor, and a glossy black paint job with bright orange accents in the theme of Monster Energy. Well anyway there's my short story of me, and what I drive. I'll edit this post at a later time adding pictures of my Pathfinder, and possibly myself, just so as to get an idea.
16. well i ran my ECU codes and threw a 12 which is [Air Flow Meter/Mass Air Flow Sensor]. I've heard there's a Mass Airflow Sensor built into the Throttle Body and is removed by one or two screws, but before I dive head first into it, I'd like to find out where to pull the screws from. It's to my understanding that the Mass Air Flow Sensor isn't like most, where the air is channeled through a tubular like thing, that it almost looks like an injector stuck in there sideways, but I do not know wether its on the left, right, front, or rear of the TBI...
17. I need to remove and clean it but I have no idea where it is on an 88 pathfinder with the vg30i motor. Anyone ever had to do this before?? I have little to no experience with the tbi system and I've been looking like crazy for a post on the topic but got slim to no results, mass airflow sensor isn't even a word in my Chilton manual thanks in advance for any help.
18. I have no experience with mass airflow sensors, or the whole Throttlebody Intake to be quite truthful, have you any experience with removing it and cleaning it??
19. i got it, i read another forum post here, and did that, and it threw 12, which is air flow meter, or mass airflow sensor. still my problem persists, because ive sucked water in my intake mefore and thats never happened.... does it just mean my mass air flow sensor is still wet??
20. im throwing some codes that i cannot identify, i know someone out there can so please help. i looked at another forum that had the codes posted but they meant nothing to me and didnt match mine at all, thanks in advance.
21. I came to that issue at one point, I got the panels off cut an 8.5" round hole in it along with the metal that holds the speaker, keep in mind the owner before me took all the speakers out except the blown two front ones haha, anyway, I put in one 8 inch round high/low frequency subwoofers with a built in tweeter for the vocals and other than the occasional humming smack I hear on the fender, they sound really good too.
22. The only thing I can think of is my catalytic converter got soaked due to my exhaust leak directly before the cat. Maybe my O2 sensor got soaked, or the doughnut in the cat got soaked too, either way I think the high rpms burnt out my cat as well cuz I smelt a very unfamiliar smell after I backfired so hard not only did a flame ball fly out the tailpipe but also up and out of my intake too, and also my check engine light came on that I didn't even know existed, ill run the codes today and match them to another thread where the code readouts are posted. Thanks both of you for the quick responses as well.
23. So today during the winter fun fest here in my town, I went through the river a few times and I sucked a bit of water into my intake and my 88 pathfinder was bogging severely bad and actually died when I got to the main road and I was stuck for about an hour and a half trying to dry out the TBI, any suggestions from anyone on how to avoid this?? Please don't give some smart ass remark like (dont drive through the riverbed) it was a foot and a half to two feet deep of water, it just splashed up from under my hood and got sucked in, is there some adapter hose I can purchase that will fit onto the opening of my TBI?? Or will I have to make my own?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
