A decent set of second hand A/T tires would be a good starting point for an upgrade. Headlight harness mod is good stuff too.. seeing things is seriously under rated. Fresh brake fluid, for stopping when you've seen something.

TD27 is 6.2l (with filter change).

Heater matrix could have died. I know notrhing about r50s but usually you can get creative under the hood and bypass them if they are suspect. Loosing any coolant?
