1. Taking a cue from theexbrit, I think you have to position the bracket with the single bolt hole for the plate, and use the double bolt holes for the two bolts in the left corner (as in your pic). It'll require removing/replacing the existing, but that would seem to fit and be in line with the holes in the bracket. I tried to edit your pic to show what I'm thinking. (Maybe??)

Brilliant! I'm going to see if this will work.

And to 96Pathfinder4x4, this is the 3/16" steel set from 4x4 parts.

  2. Actually it says it "FITS FLUSH" with the gas skid, nothing about attaching to it. It looks like there's only 1 bolt hole in the skid so I'm guessing the 2 bolt holes in the bracket end fits to the body, anything with 2 bolts in that area?

Precisely, but there's nothing with two bolts under there so far as I can tell. It's a quandary.

  3. I see what you mean now. Doesnt look like much lines up at all. I'd give them a call tomorrow and see what info you can get from them.

Well that's the best part, I've called them before only to hear "bolt it up to the gas tank skid" by an ill spoken technician. I really don't want to have to do custom work on supposedly bolt on parts that I paid $550 for when all said and done.

jesus christ they are not doing well right now are they

Not just now, but before. I bought them back in December and have been too lazy/unmotivated to put this final one on. If only it just bolted on.

  4. Have you not tried just putting her up there? I feel like it should only work one way. But puzzles were never my strongest board "game" haha

    -Kyle

I've tried lining it up, but the supplied bracket doesn't really line up with anything, even though supposedly it hooks up with the gas tank skid.

i know this is dumb but i gotta ask first do u already have the middle mounted cause i remember a nother member had them and it looked like it bolted purely to the middle one

Yes, I do have the mid mounted skid, and it does line up, but it need something to support the rear end of the skid, so it doesn't flop down.

  5. Do above maintenance, take off the running boards and mudflaps, throw on some off road-y 245/75r16s, get a tow strap and wheel it!

I've basically done that and out of the box its capability astounding IMO. See what you "need" for your area. In my case it's skids, upgraded shocks, recovery points, off road lights, manual hubs, tucked exhaust, a sleeping platform and some odds and ends. Never lifted it and it does very well. :welcome:

  6. I just turned the rotors and drums, and put on Hawk Gold Ceramic front pads (Like them better than EBC, have had both) and standard Wagner rear pads. The ABS definitely works, I even felt it today coming down a loose dirt hill. (That and stopping for a moose  ) It seems to engage at 75% pedal pressure and above, especially in rain, or anything slick. It's saved my bacon countless times.

  7. id you replace the springs when you did the shocks? the springs are what holds the vehicles weight as well as any load.

    they do sag over time.

I believe the air bags are most useful when towing as they firm up the suspension for the added tongue weight.

Right, I actually didn't, but the Pathy only has 79k so they should be alrightish... I think the rear suspension is weak by design anyway, I've seen many pathfinders with people in them sagging in the same way.

Before I got my AC 2" lift, I installed a pair of AirLift bags, which replaced the factory bump stops. The inflation valve is mounted on the panhard rod brace in the left rear wheel well.

    http://shop.airliftcompany.com/product/0/60742/_/Air_Lift_1000%3B_Coil_Spring_Leveling_Kit

They worked very well to help level the rear, especially while loaded and/or towing. After I installed the 2" lift, they are no longer needed, but I still have the bags installed as bump stops. They've been installed for over 120,000 miles and they're not worn out at all. The only thing you need to be sure to do is to drill out the lower spring perch with the correctly sized drill bit to prevent the air line from getting pinched when the spring compresses.

Excellent, just what I was wanting to hear! Was your flex limited by them at all? I would like to do the same if I ever lift.

And to others- I'm mainly looking to level out the rear when I have a load, I'm doing multiple 1000 mile+ roadtrips this summer, and would like to prevent the suspension sag.

  8. That's about where my tranny is, I'm not a huge fan of the way it shifts but that's about normal: 1-2 is hard, especially when cold, 3-4 smoother and downshifting from 4-3 is a little rough at all times.

I'm getting the tranny flushed, we'll see if there's any change. I get the feeling the tranny is what holds back the power...I can't complain too much though, it's just not up to some of my other frequent drivers.

  9. I have a "Euro Style" replacement antenna on mine like this: http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-RM906R-Rubber-Antenna-Replacement/dp/B0018BOM7W/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1367990977&sr=1-1&keywords=flexible+antenna

It's very flexible, has excellent reception, and I like the look, so for $13 I'm happy.

Had several adapters that came with it, though I have no idea how it would work with the power original unit. I would think it could be a swap? But don't quote me on that.

  10. I was just curious if you have had any experience with the in-coil style suspension airbags? Do they tear after off road use? Is the ride smooth? etc. etc.

    Like these: http://www.autoanything.com/suspension-systems/61A2966A0A0.aspx Only $97

I'm looking to beef up the rear end of my pathy- it squats way too much with only people in the back seat. With gear/supplies it's quite noticeable. I already have Bilstein 4600s which I bought a few months ago, so no shock upgrades for me...

    Thanks!

  11. Sorry for spacing out a bit...

strut mount pop hood and have someone rock the hell out of it with u looking at the center bolts if u see it move up while the body goes down your mount is toast.

    Tried that, they didn't move.

I think mine is making noise at the endlinks, might want to check those?

If you park your pathfinder with the wheel turned they way it normally makes the noise and push on the bumper and fender (carefull not to dent it) and see if the noise is still there. Also try to make the noise moving but on very smooth pavement. This should help you decifer between suspension noise or a rotating noise (like CV joint/bearing etc). Hope it helps.

It definitely still makes the noise on smooth pavement when cranking the wheel while reversing. And going over the cross-axle ditches creates the sound too. Thank you! I'll try that first trick.

Did you check your rack and pinion mounts? One could be shot that allows it to move around. When mine were shot and it sounded like a strut popping turning and going over speed bumps.
See my Members ride thread on my R&P mounts.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

What exactly do they look like when they're cracked? I'll have to take the skidplate off to check, and the sway bar bushings looked a little iffy, could it be that?

    Thanks again!

  12. All of you that have had your spare tire down or not know what brand and series of tire came with your Pathfinder 96-04?

Mine was a TOYO RADIAL TRANPATH A12

    M/S P255/65R16 106S

Anyone in Iowa have one to sell? Thanks

Not in Iowa, but I have the same one.

Not to threadjack but does anyone know if a 245/75r16 would fit in the factory location (under rear) as a spare with a trailer hitch?
