For those of you who have removed the factory air filter housing and put a round pod filter (K&N etc) in its place, have you experienced any water intrusion when off roading? (IE fording etc)
I would like to have a little more performance, but am a little concerned as to if the CAI setup would make it so I could cross only shallower water vs stock.
Thanks!

The belt seems to be tightened down enough, and that noise isn't what a dying belt typically makes so far as I can tell.

I ended up removing the flares and plastidipping silhouettes of what were fender flares
Pics or it didn't happen

I was checking the NVs out at the OC Auto Show- really really neat, and they absolutely kill the old econolines. A 4x4 one would make one hell of a rig. Plus on the little version like the transit connect, had the same door handles (on the rear door) as my Pathy

Try and get them down to $4500, then you should be in the sweet spot. I bought mine last year (same options minus the stick) for $5900 at 70k miles. You may want to check private sellers, that's what I always prefer- maintenance records, get to know the owner, and are a lot less likely to armor-all over stains and leaks.

Aftermarket support...walk into any off road shop or online store and most lift kits, fender flares, body armour, bumpers, suspension upgrades, gearing upgrades, wheels, and what not will be for Jeeps, Toyotas, and then domestic SUV's and trucks. Nissan is always way down the list for finding fun stuff to make your truck better. (I think its because they are so good from factory)
Good off road driving will (most of the time) make ground clearance a non issue. Remember put the wheels on the rocks. if you are worried about damaging the underside of the vehicle I would look into quality skid plates, 4x4designs makes some great light weight aluminum ones.
the outlander is a highway machine with 4 wheel independent suspention and AWD for safety.
The R50 is a true off road vehicle it has a 2spd transfer case with low range and a live rear axle. even stock it has 2in more ground clearance than your outlander.
With good quality light truck type all terrain tires and good driving (remember tires on the high spots ) you will be fine.
dig around the R50 portion of the site to find what upgrades are possible. and there are plenty of videos on Youtube to watch of Pathfinders in action if you need proof.
If you want a really cool, very good off road slightly bigger nissan....find a Nissan Patrol.
^This. And for god sakes, just test drive one! See what you think.

Thanks! I'll check it out in the morning. Seems to be especially affected by the recent rain? Or maybe just exacerbated by my sliding around corners haha

I'm relatively certain it's been discussed before, but I can't seem to find it. How exactly do I stop my dome light from turning on and off when going over bumps, sharp turns etc? I assume it's something to do with the door sensors, which part is it that usually breaks?

I replaced my O2 sensor on Bank 2 with a Bosch unit a few months ago. It was underneath the car on the driver's side, basically between the body and the tranny, with several clips along the way to hold it in place. They're very fiddly- watch out. If I remember correctly, it plugs in toward the front of the engine.
I bought a U-Scan OBDII reader, and thus far has been quite helpful- free Android/Iphone app which allows you to diagnose nearly anything. You can also buy a $29 expansion that has specific code decoding to your vehicle.

I realize I have a different motor (VQ35) but I have the dual in/single out 2.5" Magnaflow 18" muffler, removed the resonator, and love it. Little more power, little bit better mileage, and the perfect tone- not obnoxious at all, but a nice hum.

Seems cool, now if only there was a self-healing paint...

Stock length struts yes. Look at rockauto for the KYB GR-2s. That's what I have (no lift ATM) and I'm quite satisfied.

What a mess! Sorry to hear about you going through that.
And as far as exhaust- I have the factory route but with a magnaflow 18" dual in/single out muffler, and resonator delete with stainless tip- love the sound!

You may want to open the sunroof and make sure all the screws are tight etc. I have a similar rattle, but without the sunroof.

I'm curious about these throttle spacesrs too, I think it depends on the application as to whether it actually makes power or not.
-
That's what I'm running. A magnaflow muffler and a straight pipe out. Got rid of that stupid looking resonator.
I'm new and just digging around lol
Same here! That resonator was worthless, I went with the 18" Magnaflow and had the shop put it as high as they could to help with clearance.

I'm wondering about the lighter racks. (Rola, Thule, Curt)
My plan is to load it down and mount a pull-out canopy, so I wonder if they're durable enough and will carry the weight.
I'm pretty certain the Rola will work, Stioc has a canopy on his with no issues so far as I know.

Oh and I forgot to mention, Craigslist, the gift of the gods, is an excellent source! Just wait and jump on whatever you like.

I've heard the best flow is a 2.5, because with our little V6s, we have to walk a line between flow and backpressure. Too big and power drops, but you should be safe with 2.5. Personally, I really hate side exit exhausts unless it's on a Cobra, Viper, 32' Ford, Shelby Mustang, Trophy Truck or something that has the power to back it up. If I could do it all again, I would have twin pipes out the back of mine, though I love my mellow tone.

Discountramps.com has some pretty decent deals, look on Amazon too. Depends on the style, what's your price range? Do you want the basket kind, or Yakima style?

I haven't towed much with mine, but I've had it loaded down on a trip around UT, WY, and ID from SoCal- it does just fine so long as you keep it up in the powerband. I had a rooftop cargo carrier, and again, lots of luggage etc in 115*F with no trouble. Same goes for a trip up the coast to Eureka- 1k miles and had no trouble doing 85 with a motorcycle on a rack on the trailer hitch.
Stock pathies are rated to 5k, just make sure you have the right hitch (mine is a Draw-Tite Class IV) and you ought to be ok.

Well at this time, I'm not quite ready to commit to a snorkel both financially and in the looks department I was just curious if the mod would negatively effect the stock tolerance for water.
