  1. I was leaning towards the plugs and wires. I can't see how moisture would get into the disty just sitting but I can pull it fairly easily and look. step 1 diagnostic would be to check the resistance of the coil and plug wires. step 2, replace plugs and wired (if needed). Looking to see if there might be something I'm missing. As for the injectors, a leak will throw a CEL so I don't think that's it. Was thinking of vacuum advance issues I used to have on older cars but I think the timing adjustment is via ECU and not vacuum controlled.

Yeah, checking the resistance works too.. heh.

The ECU does control the timing on these, yes

  2. How long has it been since you last changed your plugs/plug wires/dist cap and rotor button?

If moisture gets under a dist. cap it will cause problems..so im thinking your dist cap has a bad seal or it could even be cracked?

Moisture brings out the worst for electrical problem.. If its been about a year or longer id consider replacing the plugs, plug wires distributor cap and rotor button.. I'd say the best way to diagnose this as your problem is spraying WD-40 around your dist cap and plug ends, to displace the water!

This is how im picturing it in my mind:

Plugs and dizzy cap are wet when first started..as you go down the road, it dries them off eventually..

Puddles dont usually splash high enough to reach the plugs..i dont think, anyway..it depends on the size! viannen_09.gif

As for the sensor that controls the choke..i dont think there is anything like that.. the closest thing i can think to that would be the Idle Air Control Valve.. which only controls your idle.. But i could be wrong!

Just my idea, hope this helps! :)

  3. Hmm..honestly the engine drives the same..i notice zero change in performance from when its running all day without a CEL and when it has a CEL..that's why im so confused..

Ill check all my connections at the ECU when im home.. coz its bothering me..even though im leaning toward a ground somewhere..

  4. I should have known that was way too easy.. CEL is back... -.- so..

I'm going to try to check the pins on the ECU, as mentioned..but..i dont know how you count them??

Even after the (over 40 miles now) of no CEL, it comes back, first thing when i start it up today.. Same codes as before..im leaning toward it really being the same problems..or..it being a bad ECU. (too expensive, so going to do diagnostics for now..)

    Thanks everyone!

  5. I may need to do it at an even sloe, this was at a slight slope.. (also before i just put my new MAF sensor in..definitely a lot of improvement from the new one..)

I bought all new bosch plugs wires cap and rotor when i bought it (not even 3k miles ago)

I think the stuttering was the sound..where at did you notice it and ill be able to tell you..

    Thanks for the feedback! :)

  6. Okay..let me change that a bit.. so i found out how to clear my codes (i thought you had to disco the battery, then reconnect and drive..)

so i clear them, start it up, go on a 30 mile drive, driving it extremely hard (nothing over 4k rpm though)

and.. no codes! the CEL doesnt even come on when i first turn the key..maybe the new MAF fixed it?

Will try what you said if the light comes on again..but until then..thanks everyone!!! :)

  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV3fS8rd9MQ

Just wondering if everything sounds okay in this video, such as, does it sound like there are any problems?

I know the sound quality is horrible, it degraded a lot when i converted to AVI, but, thats the only way youtube would let me do it..

Thanks! This is the closest i can get to having another pathy owner drive mine to see about differences...

  8. Spent 10$ on a MAF from a paths pathy..well... put it in, drove it until the CEL came on (only about a mile) checked the codes, and still throwing the same codes..so im guessing this means im looking into even deeper troubles..

  9. Check pins 16 & 17 at the ECM for the proper voltage. It could be an issue with the wiring in between the MAF and ECM. Just to add to your frustration, by the nature of an intermittent electrical problem it probably isn't doing it when you're testing it. The only thing I can suggest is to test at the ECM and then drive around watching the voltage to see if it will cut out.

When my MAF was bad it wasn't "always" bad. It picked and chose when it wanted to work.

Okay..now that i've gotten a few of my exterior (easier) things fixed, im back to tracking these down.

How do i count these at the plug?

I added a new ground to my MAF sensor and..somehow that screwed up my security system..

Thanks! I just dont get how, on long trips (over 40 miles, or so) the CEL goes off and stays off.

I even went through the extent of leaving it disconnected over night..still shows the same codes, so im going to have to tear into the dirty part and get specific..

But..one thing i dont understand.. if it has ALL these codes.. what makes the light even come on? surely they cant just all stop malfunctioning at once..can they?

    My codes still stand at:

12 Air Flow Meter/Mass Air Flow Sensor.

    51 Injector Circuit.

    45 Injector Leak.

    34 Knock Sensor.

    23 Idle Switch.

  10. i didnt click it, re-do your math! :FartExplode-vi:

Generally when someone has an actual video they embed it, especially when it sais "youtube" right in the beginning of the link, normally smells a little foul. I ain't B-old, but I ain't Kyle-young so I avoid clicking EVERY link

    darn! 6 points!

    bahaha..im impressed, young grasshoppa!

I don't know what you guys are watching (joke could be on me) but the posted link takes me to a RickRoll'D video with a skinny little white boy doing some corny early 80s dancing. I went back and watched the whole thing thinking there was a wreck scene I missed. It was painful to watch but I didn't see any pathfinders!

yeah... apparently thats the joke. making you think it was going to be something else... its called being rickroll'd... i fell for it to.

All seriousness I thought rickrolling was retired... and though I like the song (suprise!) it got old quick to begin with. Maby it should be replaced by everyone getting
