  1. well its been a few months since i fit the lokka up. Still loving it. Thought my steering issues were related to the driveshaft angles, which has ended up being incorrect. Although it will allow the shafts to overrun on decent surfaces, it definitely has created a couple issues when i need to go from lock to lock in a very confined space. Its still absolutely farktonnes better than the standard diff, and definitely one of the best upgrades ive done on my girl, however once i throw the Dana at her, i will only be going E lockers front and rear. for the money, im still rating it as absolutely awesome.
  2. Should add, I worked in the industry and performed engine conversions for quite some time. I assessed my D21 for a LS2 swap before i decided on a KA24ET.. Reason for going KA24 in the end was because of cost.
  3. VH45DE was done down here (Australia) and came up for sale a while back in an R50. seemed a bit tight and old mate was after way too much for what it was. As for space, an LS is an easy doer. Marks 4x4 sell the adaptors for the transfer to the GM trans. Bellhousings are an easy swap to the LS from 304/308 if required. http://www.marks4wd.com/engine-conversions/transfer-case-adaptors/nissan/navara-pathfinder.html If you can shoehorn a 1UZFE in a hilux, and a VH45DE in a R50, you cannot tell me you will have space issues with a LS swap. Infact, if i could LS swap my FD3S RX7 with ample room, its an absolute no brainer for the D21/22/R50.
  4. How did you go about the transfer case? Looking at swapping tx10 with tx12 for my swap.
  5. Soooo. Being in the land down under, finding a dana44 is like finding rocking horse @!*%, however the h233b front can be found in every backyard if you dig deep enough. Instead of flipping the diff, I'd rather change the transfer over. I haven't been able to find any information on whether the tx10 is interchangeable with a tx12 transfer, hence I'm hoping someone will be able to share this info?
  6. After trawling through all possible sites I can think of, I'm having a hell of a time tracking down a z18/20/22/24 efi manifold in Australia. Are they available over there or am I chasing rocking horse poop?
  7. Know this is an old thread, but would like to add that my 1990 2 door does not have the captive nuts behind the indentations on rear panel. Just keep this in mind when doing the installation. I'll be cutting the top section out now, adding steel plate behind with captive nuts then rewelding the panel back on.
  8. well i have given her a hard time since and the lokka is absolutely amazing compared to standard. The only issue i have had is on very soft surfaces (sand) at low speed it hasnt allowed the driveshaft to overrun. My lift is also causing what feels like my CVs to bind on full lock and droop. Along with the 2wd steer swap and ALL new joints, its been a great improvement. Now i just need to do something about all the bent tie rods! (up to 4 now, in 2 trips.)
  9. Priced it all up. Thought stuff it and got 2wd parts on the way. Better design after all. And cheaper.
  10. Thanks. Will be doing the 2wd steering swap in the future. just fit a full new 4wd setup before i saw the 2wd swap. looks like im fabricating some anti bump steer ends!
  11. Done a bit of a search and cannot come up with an answer just yet. Are there any known anti bumpsteer tie rod ends available for the D21? Would be nice to be able to buy them off the shelf before i start fabbing stuff up and trying to get correct components to suit. Not a fan of the angle my ends are on on full dorr Thanks.
  12. 4.1:1 aye. That would be nice when I do the engine swap. Got my brother to send me a pic of my plate. She has 4.8s in her and should have the replacement diff turn up tomorrow. Thanks fellas.
  13. Yeah. Too easy. Thanks fellas. Just needed a bit of confirmation there are multiple ratios available for my model type or not. Looks like I'll have to get the replacement diff during the week instead of doing it today.
  14. Ran into a bit of an obsticle with my front diff lately. The crown wheel had a damaged tooth when I pulled her apart and fit my lokka. Seeing as it was still functional before hand (although not ideal) I decided to still fit the lokka and leave it for a couple months before replacing it. Issue is the lokka fitment must of upset her a little so she's locked up on the crown wheel and pinion. Without removing and counting my cw pin teeth and working out the gear ratio, is there a standard ratio fitted to the fronts? She's a 1990 2 door 5sp z24 with r180/h233b. Car is a bit away from me so hoping there is a simple way for me to work this out and get another diff before I get to the car next. I'm assuming it's the 4.3 seeing as that's the common one. Thanks.
  15. Engine swap. Vg30et will help you tow ? Is what I would be doing if I had the v6 model. Try towing with a z24. Would be lucky to tow a box trailer with a bag of cement in it. If your really not up for the headache of engine swaps, stick with what you got!
  16. Know this is a rather old thread now, BUT i have just installed a front Lokka into my 1990 pathy. It is seriously retardedly easy. Getting the diff out is the bitch of the whole install. All up the entire job probably took a tad over 2hrs. This is including removing the front differential, removing the standard spiders, measuring all new products as required in instructions and reinstalling the differential in the car. I am a mechanic, so does make it easier and quicker, but anyone with common sense will be able to do the install. I havent had time to test it as im still waiting for some parts to arrive to finish my front end overhaul, but from looking at the design and knowing how it works, i know the improvement is going to be nothing short of amazing. I cant stress how easy the job is to do either. I would come close to letting my 3yo daughter have a crack at it.
  17. What grade were you running previously? As for me, I use penrite 20w50 mineral for my z24. When new motor goes in she will be run on hpr5.
  18. if anyone wants some extractors that fit a Z24 pathfinder, i have a set ill be throwing away. if you want them, pickup from Hornsby area NSW.
  19. being a mechanic, the Yota is much more reliable and better built, however, i find they dont go the same offroad! i love my lil WD21. for the money, you cant beat them. Unlike everyone else though, i was never looking for a 4wd. this just turned up. I only got it as a daily driver until i finished my Mazda 808. However, my 808 is now gone, and the Pathfinder is still here getting all the time and money spent on it. I cant give much experience on a V6 pathy, as i have the 4banger Z24 turd (which is now in the bin and getting replaced by a FJ20ET) but i have worked on many many many of the VG series engines, and they arent too bad a motor. Fairly strong, decent power with small modifications, and very very smooth and responsive, unlike a Yota counterpart. Just drive her for a while, fix some of the small issues like the exhaust leak, and see how she grows on you. If your still set on the Yota after a while, get rid of the Pathy and get your runner. Noone can make the decision other than you.
  20. 1974 Mazda 808 sedan. 12a fullcut race bridgeport going in with 51 ida weber, shortened hilux welded diff and S5 RX7 13BT gearbox. and latest toy is a 1977 KE30 Corolla sedan. will be getting a FJ20ET. rather mild setup though. FMIC, GT30, 3" exhaust, welded diff and heavy duty clutch. no pics because she is the new addition! and i still have the pathy which is on hold.
  21. Sorry champ, didnt read the whole thread. just skimmed and assumed you dropped the DETT in it. Must of read something in another thread about the DETT swap? And what i was trying to ask about the MS ecu.. is it an easy ecu to tune, or does the amount of stuffing around with the ignition and fuel maps make you want to jump infront of a bus?
  22. curious on the flow rates of the Subaru side feeds, and also, how do you find the megasquirts as far as tuneability? we dont see them in Australia all that often. Im used to seeing crappy Microtechs down here. Also, congratulations on the VG30DETT install. I must say im not a fan of Nissan V6s, especially the VG30DETT Z32s, but i can appreciate the amount of time and effort that you have put into this build! I am currently replacing the Z24 in my Pathy with a FJ20ET, and finiding the time is a nightmare, for a almost straight swap. I wish i had the time up my sleeves that you would of required for your build. Please keep everyone posted with this build! James.
  23. not a member of PCOA yet. just browsed through. this site seemed more friendly to the D21 than PCOA. might sign up. Either way, i have to wait until July to get my full license to be able to legally drive the Pathy when shes back on the road! I am guessing after August when the initial problems are sorted out, i will be keen to do a run with some members! Cyril, im only down in Hornsby and my parents also own a house at Morisset, so the Wattagans is the obvious spot for me to use! Wouldnt mind trying the trails out at Ourimbah. heard they are alright! Stockton is also a spot i have been meaning to head to. only been once in a Triton and was good fun. not as fun as the bush, but somthing different!
