  1. That is exactley what happend to me last week. Had to have my car towed since it would not start. My repair guy had to replace the entire distributor. This all happened after I had the distributor cap, spark plugs and wires replaced that same day. Checked the back of the distributor and found a small burn mark and a hole. Apparently that will stop the car dead. Just glad it wasn't the ECU.

  2. I pull about 3000lbs with my 03 SE (trailer and two large 4 wheelers) and have no problems other than a little sag on the springs, but forthcoming airlift bags will solve that. It pulls really well and doesn't strain even here in hilly West Virginia.

Just keep your maintenance up on it and don't overdo it and you'll be fine.

I have airlifts on mine and they work great!! Don't let it sag too long or you will be replacing your control arms in the rear soon. You will know once you accelerate and the vehicle+steering starts to shake. They are expensive to replace. Go get the airlifts installed with the compressor. Don't buy it without the compressor.

  3. If your electrical goes completley dead and you pulled the ground cable from the battery for a minute or two which you should see your inside lights come on. Car should start up. Ok, what do you have hooked up in your car? Stereo, CB, airlifts, tow package? Check all the wires, you have a short. The increase of amperage has thrown a safety switch preventing you from cooking the ECU. This is my understanding and I'm going through it now.

    Side note:

I had my pathfinder towed last night since it would not crank over which I could tell there was no spark. Interesting enough, i started the engine barely which it sputtered then died which then my entire electrical went dead.

My tech guy put it on the computer and I found that after putting a new distributor cap, wires and plugs, somehow my entire distributor (coil included) was sparking out the back through a small hole (interesting). $300 distributor replacement and it started right up. That was freaky.

  4. That's what I'm doing too. I bought my complete SFD kit with steering parts, extended SS brake lines and all from Andrew/shift220 but just need to make the rear spring spacers and then I'm set. The big thing I'm waiting on is $$ for new tires.

Question on tire size. I can't decide if I should get the 285/?/16's or the 305/?/16's. They both measure out to be 33.1 inches in diameter. The 305 is just obviously wider. I'm getting the BFG M/T KM2s. Do you guys think the 305s will even fit?

How can I reach Andrew? I want to purchase that SFD kit right away?

  5. yea, like precise1, i just run mobil1 5w-30, and mobil1 oil filter, dont use any fram crap. change it every 5000 miles and it shouldnt matter which synthetic you use. Also, if you have been running conventional and suddenly switch over at such high milege, i think theres a problem with that, but check it.

Good thing I started using synthetic when I only had 3,000 miles on my first oil change then. (I have heard of the same issue on switching from conventional to synthetic when a car has a lot of miles, apparently it releases a lot of sludge which will cause problems).

Owned the vehicle since it had 2 miles on it. I have always used Mobile one 5w30 synthetic and mobile one filter forwever until I reached 100K when I was advised to use 10w30. Funny how opinions vary on what weight of oil to use.

  6. I have heard from two different sources on the following:

    1. Mobile One Synthetic 10W30 for High Mileage in temp over 0 Deg F. (This was provided by two different auto shops)I live in El Paso, TX so it never ever gets below 20 here.

    2. Valvoline Synthetic 5W30 - Recommended by a German Mechanic guy I know.

Maybe someone can advise on this.

  7. Your specs might be different than mine since I have a 98 R50 which is the 3.3. I'll have to check the pinned topics for the specs unless your specs might work? You sure did a great job on that lift. I'm ready for the next lift on mine since I just put on the A/C kit with new 265/70/R17's. SFD looks great and will get the 6" i need.

  8. I'm pulling an enclosed trailer 6x12 which weighs about 4,000 lbs with my gear. I also have electric breaks (very important) It's slow but no problems yet. Keep the overdrive off. The AC lift kit plus the 265/70/R17 tires really helped keep it all stable during a drive through the city or on the highway. I don't even need my airlifts anymore after the kit was installed.

  9. Hi CaR50 owners

A friend of mine has a 98 R50 with 181,xxx thousand miles on it and is experiencing a shudder between 45 and 50mph.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this happen?

Yep, is he running new wheels that are lug centric or wheel adapters? Most likely it's still wheel balance though. It was for me and also you need to make sure who ever is installing the wheel adapters to make sure they are torqued proper like around 108 foot lbs. You also need to make sure that the lug centric wheel is installed correctly or you will get a vibration between 40-45 or 45-50. These were my experiences which now have been resolved.
