  1. I'm really liking that idea hmm... did I jack this thread? ahhh well, least it's still on topic your ideas and words of encouragement are well appreciated everyone
  2. Yes AT first I thought: "BAH, any truck can have it's rust cut out and fresh panels welded in for it, but it takes a REAL truck to beat the cancer all on it's own" annnd... I thought Nissan would be up to the task turns out, as tough as it is, it's no Mr. T... I've been playing with a MIG welder at work lately tryin to teach myself how to weld without burning through the soft sheet metal but any advice, any forms of magic, "Save Ryan's Pathy From the Cancer" fund raiser donations, or offers to come and fix it for free would be greatly appreciated
  3. I'd love to! However I'm stuck in Edmonton with my heads all tore apart hopefully you find a bunch of local guys up to the task, I'm sure it will be an awesome run!!!
  4. these threads should get you started about the 350: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=25441 http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=26401 about the SAS: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19183 http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=22801 http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=23970 also-- is your pathy a '92? sould be posting in the '90-'95 WD21 forum, not the 86.5-89 WD21's or even the Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showforum=60 that's where all my reference threads are from
  5. OSR and Tmoore are right, that would be the cheapest way to do it if you can find a donor in good condition (verrry problematic where i live) and with a little work it would all look brand new when it's done However, with the huge lack of rust free pathfinders in my area, I'm planning on cutting mine all out and welding all diamond plate this summer and painting em flat black a little extra money and work, not quite as pretty, but a whole lot tougher you've got a few different options here but good luck on getting it done before it looks as bad as mine XD >_>
  6. UPDATE! So hopefully I'll be picking up my cylinder head tomorrow =) in the mean time, here's how I've been keeping busy Got a phone call from the local Pick n Pull informing me that they had gotten a realllly good condition '92 Pathfinder SE 4x4 in (it seems really rare for Nissan Trucks to end up there O.o all they had for the longest time was 1 '89 pickup) I was impressed, interior was MINT with 359000km on the clock. It was red though, or else I would have plundered it all >_> I did get first dibs on it though and grabbed some stuff: 'New' connecting rod to make my door work again Installed and working =) some extra ECUs-- in case another one burns out from the deep water 'new' shift knob for transfer case Olddddd Newww Annnnd some really good condition valve cover bolts to throw these pretty bitches back in once the head work is done (top one prepped, ready-ish for paint-- bottom one finished) Next time, I'll get the centre link I started to claim but lacked the tools for complete removal (can't believe I forgot my hammer >_> ) annnd hopefully grab an electric radiator fan out of a 3.8L Taurus for an electric fan swap might even nab a spare tire carrier and mod it for a fuel can holder... gaaaaaah I <3 junk yard ^_^ OH, that pathy had rear disks on the stock axle... would it be worth taking? I have a H233b rear in mine...
  7. WHOOPS! I just caught that xD

I wrote that up before I had picked the truck up when I bought it, they're really 33"s *adds 35" tires to wishlist*

They still really do the job though =)

  8. shambles? like... broken? XD that'd be harsh... time to hit the junk yard
  9. or just some really long arms and axles for a really high and wide stance? I'm sure could find some rims off of a HD truck (lots are 6 bolt) so they wouldn't stick out too far while still achieving lift through the long arms reaching further down I see pro baja trucks all the time with IFS setups jacked way up with crazy long arms xD
  10. wow... handles like a car hey? *looks out window* hmm... I always compared mine to a shopping cart XD great post!!! thanks for the pics WAY before my time haha was really cool seeing those
  11. I suppose life is just one big compromise XD if an auto suits more of your priorities, then have at 'er as for driving a stick on hilly highway, I prefer stick there too long boring drive, when a hill comes up I think to myself "YES, I get to DO something now " but I guess I'm just a fidgety person who can't sit still lol
  12. maybe, I always just found auto's a pain in the ass period lol I'm on my 9th vehicle now, only 2 of which have been autos... and I didn't keep them for very long the tranny's were still good in them, I just didn't like them the first was a '84 mkII toyota supra, loved the car, hated not being able to down shift EXACTLY when I wanted too later bought a manual '84 mk Supra, identical in every way, save for the tranny, LOVED that car to pieces never have I had so much fun in a vehicle down shifting right before I buried the pedal into a corner used that car as a winter car too, right combination of down shifting and easing the brake pedal will stop you WAY faster than any auto, even with ABS then my 8th car was a '95 Ford Crown Vic P71 Interceptor with the heavy duty auto trans worked perfect, nothing went wrong, dropped gears good and fast when I punched it wide open throttle... I was just BORED in traffic all the time I had NO idea what to do with my right hand I was very tempted, on more than one occasion, to do something verrry inappropriate with my right hand, just to give it something to do while I sat in traffic xD .... .. >_> ANYWAY comes down to personal preference, and im with him on this one here i will never own another auto XD swapping AT for MT has way more benefits than just not having to worry about those crumby coolers and clogging and trans temp and "whens it gonna burn up? whens it gonna blow to pieces? oh damn my pan is leaking all over again, when did i last change the filter? holy hell, what is that sound, why is it not up shifting yet? damn my big tires on the highway, is that gear even working? gaaaaaaaaaah >_<" manual trans, it's in there, big solid gear box, does what you tell it pour tons of power through it, abuse it, Chris Brown it, whatever manual is AWESOME for rockin your vehicle outta stuck situations, be it snow, mud... maybe you were driving in a sewage plant... whatever you can keep on the gas and time your shifts to build momentum and get out none of this "Drive, *vroooooooom* *off gas* *brakes* *shift* *reverse* *vrooooooom* *off gas and brake* *shift* *repeat* nanananaNO. if you're stuck, you want OUT, foot off the brakes and ON the gas, work that clutch and slam those gears like rock em sock em robots, thats what the synchros are for, and get yourself outta that mess no problem way more control over the vehicle with a manual YOU are the driver, therefore the truck should do what YOU want, not what IT wants >_> manual will save you gas money, more efficient than autos you're more in tune with a vehicle that has a manual they're funner to drive make you feel more bad ass annnnd... and... only thing you can't do with a manual is text on your cell phone while eatin a big mac and then get distracted by a text and run a red light because you were looking at the phone, not the road... driving not party phone time! driving is driving time! put your big mac down and wait till you get home put your phone down, anybody hear of blue tooth? having a phone in your hand while driving in my city is illegal now anyway if there's something you're doing that you wouldn't be able too with a manual you probably shouldn't be doing it anyway >_> ok, I'm done /rant >_> I expect lots of angry responses XD
  13. individual snorkels lol also, they make additional plenums that fit over the ITB setup for turbo applications (yea... turbo AND ITB's, people do it apparently xD ) that could be piped to a snorkel on either side lol I know it wouldn't be overly functional for... well any practical reason but for any who have witnessed a well tuned ITB setup in person, it's just stupid cool knowing that the option is available edit** just saw MY1PATH mentioned the plenum covers it'd be different anyway and highly impractical, perhaps... unless you were making a race truck or something but... if I ever win the lotto, I'd definitely make it happen anyway ^_^ I'm salivating over all the sweet sweet low end torque there would be to play with xD
  14. ah I know the whole lowers wouldn't swap, but it looks like it would still bolt to a VG lower and there still is no emission testing in my province hehe bah, like I said, I know it'd be more money than 99% of us could afford to make happen but... ahh shiiiiiny xD
  15. So after reminiscing in my tuner days, I stumbled upon THIS quite possibly the sexiest piece of kit out there for the VG family This picture is of a Vq35DE ITB setup but the VG30E, and I believe the VG33E could be set up exactly the same. By the picture it almost looks like they have the same lower intake manifold. All the parts needed to build this can be purchased from Extrudabody. http://extrudabody.com/ I know it would take a stand alone and the cost is more than 99.9% of the members here can afford... but... the sound... would = pure sex for NA vs supercharge xD *continues day dreaming*
  16. Aye, unfortunately CT does get a lot of flak in those regards. We are the starting place for many in their technician careers and many tire guys in our stores across the country, many not even have ever picked up a wrench before starting here. Then most of the experienced guys find better jobs elsewhere or start apprenticing and the tire guys don't get the greatest guidance or supervision. Me, I was lucky enough to have worked in 7 different shops before I came here, learning something new everywhere I went, so by the time I got here, I was able to teach the other tire guys here, and even some of the licensed techs a few things about tire busting =) Not every CT is the same, they're all independently owned and operated, so I can't speak for all of them. But from what I've noticed in most shops is the same inexperience is recycled from tire guy to tire guy. It's not the shop, its the people working in it XD
  17. oh wow, hey Birdie! I've never even ventured into this part of the site before lol I'm north Edmonton, right on the tip closest to St Albert =)
  18. I say, whatever you get, definitely swap the Q wheels to it. Just so I can see pics of the Q with old pathy legos
  19. I really want to, but when I take it off I want to get it jet washed and all the seals taken care of and have a valve grind done -- if they're good, or replace the bad ones if need be -- and I just don't have the money for that atm so I think that one will have to wait... bleh And I figure I'll be even better at tearing it apart and putting it together the next time around, I'll know every inch of this truck in no time xD
  20. oh, and it doesnt hurt to find an intact donor truck in the local scrap yard should things break or go missing There's actually NO pathfinders in the ones here O.o but I located a hard body with a V6- just in case lol
  21. well I actually never took any formal schooling yet myself, not yet anyway I've just grown up around it and have become pretty comfortable around it I've got a couple manuals with torque specs for stuff, but really this is my first tear down And when I did the timing belt 2 months ago, that was my first belt too Best way to learn is just to dive in and take stuff apart Just don't rush anything and keep track of where all the bolts go Motors are just like a giant jigsaw If you can turn a wrench, you can build a car It's not that scary once you get into it I've just learned to always be prepared for old stuff to break -- set aside money for bolts and gaskets and other junk Keep track of the little metal clips for the electrical connectors and any other odd pieces (like the key on the crank shaft or the rubber grommet things for the fuel rail) penetrating lube and anti-seize are your friends and label where all the bolts came from lol
  22. yea, I remember the belt was pretty mangled when I pulled it out the first time... I kind of really want to pull the other head off and have it checked out but I won't have money for that one for another 3 weeks! Long time to be out of a set of wheels... Compression was still decent in the other bank so I think I'll just leave it alone for now And either way, it will be WAY better than before, at least all 6 cylinders will be workin now and that whole head will be new Maybe I'll pull it all apart again in a few months when I do cams and exhaust headers
  23. Balllllllllllllls So, I got a phone call from the machine shop this morning turns out ALL my valves are bent -_- said that motor musta really been revvin hard when that belt went *sigh* ah well. Another $600 down the tubes.
  24. I heard of some F150's~F350s and Explorers had external coolers oh, and my '95 P71 Crown Vic ex-police cruiser had one
  25. No kidding, that box is a beast! Those boxes are pretty expensive as it is, realllly nice though I'm impressed how well they hold their value, big investment for sure. I'm hoping to get one one day, maybe in a few years- Until then I'm still rocking my $700 ProCore box that I got on sale from Gregg's distributors. Snap On quoted me $2000 for a box the same size as what I have xD .... after trade in! On a side note, FINALLY got my head off to the Marvick (our local machine shop that does all our head work) and hopefully will be ready to drop back in by Saturday
