  1. Being in california not many people are in to 4x4's. Post it for 4k but I wouldn't be mad about someone offering 3,000. Or less. It is a 91 after all, and these aren't sought after. Just trying to be real!

  2. I really should start frequenting this forum more..

Instead of replacing the entire distributor there is an optic part inside of it underneath a metal disc with 6 big holes and 360 little ones. That's the eyeball for the cam position sensor. Most Nissan's with distributors use the same part.

But I was going to say it's either that or your ignition coil. Sometimes when they get hot they don't work as well.

  3. Thanks guys, I did some shopping around and had to settle for Rockauto. Even with the discount code ended up at $85, but all will be worth it to have tight steering again. Need this fixed before putting my plow on and winter is about to hit again with another storm

If you bought the Moog, you could have saved yourself $20 by buying the Mevotech. They have the same part number.

  4.

when building a VG30e motor with horsepower / torque and even fuel economy in mind...an MSD blaster coil and MSD 6A box are not just a good idea, for me they are a necessity. after installing these 2 components I have seen ( and felt ) a huge difference in power right through the rpm range and most noticeable at very low end and very high revs :)

Well sure, you added the ignition control box as well. Just the coil by itself is not a performance part on these trucks, and the only people noticing a difference are those with previously bad coils, and/or those taking sugar pills. I've tested the factory coil in my truck, and it put out 35-40k volts.

  5. There is 3 scratches and one is pretty pronounced and can only be fixed by boring the cylinders.

The thing I find so odd with that is the knock sounded like it was top end rather than bottom end especially when I listened through a hose. On top of that my ECU has not picked up any codes.

Looking at my options however I'm kinda considering pulling an engine off pick and pull and having it hot dipped/rebuilding the block.

Tell me if I'm stupid in thinking this however in my mind I'll have a new engine and spent less money since all the long and short blocks I've found for sale have been close to or above 2000$

Not often someone messes up a block like I did

Do this. But try to grab one from a truck with obviously exterior damage, as a lot of them end up in there because of broken timing belts. I think you can use an R50 block as well, you'd want to keep your heads and injection.

You can confirm if a rod is bent by rotating the crank. All of the pistons should sit flush with the deck when at the top of their throw, so you can check two at a time as it goes around.

  6. The only reasons for brake fluid to be low in the reservoir is either a leak or your pads/shoes are almost worn out. The fluid level is designed to be reflective of the lining material. Brake fluid should never be topped off without checking to make sure the rest of the system is in good shape. Also now that the reservoir is full, when you go to compress the caliper pistons for new pads it'll make a mess unless the fluid is sucked out.

Unless of course you get T-boned my some old lady that should not be driving, bend the axle and have to tear the rear end apart to replace. Didn't lose that much fluid but it was enough I guess to set off the ABS light. Maintenance 101, isn't it? Missing fluid has to go somewhere.....

Guess I need to learn to use the quote function though....

Yes, unless of course one thing that doesn't have to do with the general operation of the system happens, should you top off the fluid. Christ, we all got a story where the cosmo aligns and we need to do something against the norm.

Turned out to be a stuck float valve in my brake fluid reservoir. Just unstick it and fixed. Worth a look!

Who are you and what relevance was this? Your issue was not related to OP and did not merit a zombie thread bump. OP only said ABS light came on which is stupidly common on these trucks (diff speed sensor anyone?). If the fluid is low or your float happens to be stuck the BRAKE light illuminates as well.

  7. A little off topic I know but how do you like the xterras? I've always heard they were the rebirth of the pathy.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing and getting a lifter and rocker arms assembly while I'm at it off a truck if nothing else for extra parts.

Awesome suggestion, i didnt even think of that. I'll have to pick up the attachment :)

rebirth sorta. Shares the same chassis code. 87-95 Pathfinders are WD21, and the first gen X is a WD22. They're leaf sprung in the back so they don't wheel quite as nicely, but it makes them better tow vehicles. Also, they're big. I've wheeled with a couple and I usually stare in awe. Body armor is a must.

  8. More than 10% difference across the cylinders is not good. If you have four sitting at 150, the lowest you want is 135, so that one at 110 is bad. 80 is extra bad. Adding oil would increase the compression even with a bent rod. So I wouldn't rule out a bent rod yet as that's more likely than the valve. The valves were closed when the piston came up to compress your water/fuel mixture, its already been said but, water doesn't compress and that pressure has to go somewhere!

A leak down test will determine if it's the valves (leak down test leaks) or if it's a rod (leak down test does not leak).

  9. For future reference (somebody's gonna Google this and find our thread for sure) here is a picture of the amps in the passenger side rear quarter panel.

Strangely, the front amp ran the front speakers on my car, the rear amp ran the rear speakers. I have the 8 speaker configuration (two in the doors, two tweeters in the a-pillars, two speakers and tweeters in the ceiling in the back).

Both amps were made by Clarion.

This is the location of the amps in the round dash (94-95) trucks afaik. I believe the square dash trucks have them under the stereo.

  10. Whoa... I got my first Pathfinder in 2009 but I didn't have it long. My current truck I got late Oct 2010. Daaammmnnnn, so that means my KM2's have lasted over six years! Not once have I gotten it professionally aligned either. I'm definitely getting another set.
