  1. Pickles, the new aftermarket struts should have come with new balljoints. I've replaced mine (and a friend's), and have happened upon struts in the store that were missing the balljoints in their package. Also beware...I've run across struts that were too long for the application, even though the manufacturer's chart said they were the correct strut. Can't remember the brand I used.
  2. Sounds like something is definitely wrong with your transmission. At those RPMs, I doubt you're getting out of 2nd gear. My tach runs a bit under 3000 at 70. Kicking it out of overdrive, it won't exceed 3800 rpm at 70mph.
  3. Every time my '91 has had this problem, the window regulators have had to be replaced. Nissan didn't design the regulators very well. The cable tends to cut into the plastic guides, making the window sluggish. The regulators can be had for around $70 for OEM. All 4 of mine have had to be replaced over the last 13 years. The replacements may be better than the factory originals, though. Never have had to replace them again (and the first two went out at years 5 & 6).
  4. Well, the original color was more of a satin black...somewhere in between flat and shiny. I've had very good luck with the satin trim paint (Duplicolor, etc) you can buy in any automotive store. It's specifically for metal trimwork on cars. I haven't had any problems with it fading or oxidizing. I painted the windshield wiper arms on my Finder about 6 months ago and they still look perfect. I prepped them first with 400 grit sandpaper and cleaned them with some Prep-Sol.

    CB Radio

Depending on the radio's size, my '91 has plenty of room to mount a small to medium sized radio below the brake antilock module (just ahead of the auto tranny lever). Another potential mounting point is on the back of the center console, mounted vertically. If the radio's really small, you could mount it in the E-brake cubbyhole below and to the right of the steering column. As for antennas, I recommend you ditch the magmount. For decent range, you'll need a grounded antenna...the longer the better. You have a couple of options for mounting. Mount a firestick or whip antenna to either your spare tire carrier's cast mounting bracket, or get a mirror mount and mount it to the tubular carrier itself. Coax can be run into the body through the taillight housing. Another option is to get a trunk-lid mount and mount the antenna to the upper edge of the rear hatch at the roofline (I have enough room for this to still clear the air deflector). Or you could mount a trunk-lid mount under the edge of the hood.
  6. Hey Cynic, how much difference in ride did you get with the Ranchos? Did you have the stock electrics before?
  7. I'll bet your buddy spliced one of your license lights into the brake circuit... Depending on how he spliced the circuit, it could cause your brake lights to come on with the running lights. Likewise, when you hit your brakes, it would feed voltage into your running light circuit, causing the parking lights to illuminate. You wouldn't be able to notice if your taillights were illuminated because they would be coming on simultaneously with your brake lights, making it appear that only the front parking lights were coming on.
  8. I've had a couple of independent mechanics tell me that the OEM Nissan pads work best, but Nissan Performance Mag (www.nissanperformancemag.com) has been doing a series on building up an older Pathfinder and the author used MetalMaster pads (I think) with great success. I've always heard that performance metallic pads weren't that great for the street, since they have to heat up to work properly, but the web article indicates otherwise...
  9. Hey Notread, I've still got the brushguard. I sent you an email, but don't know if you got it.
  10. Is there a possibility the EGR is leaking? Been having some intermittant problems myself over the last year and I'm thinking it could be the source. Just a thought...
  11. Don't know anyone personally who's installed the in-cab adjuster, but let me know how you like it if you do install one. I just got a set of the Rancho RS9000X shocks for my Pathfinder, but haven't yet had time to install them. In case you hadn't seen it, here's a writeup on the in-cab adjuster on Nissan Performance Mag's website: http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/february04/Pathfinder/
  12. Had my '91 converted to R-134a last summer (compressor had failed). New compressor and dryer was about $500. Total for job was about $650 from a local independent mechanic. Over the last 9 mo, I've noticed that it's not quite as efficient cooling, but it works well enough and I can get R-134a most anywhere pretty cheaply. If you're doing it yourself, here's a good source for parts, gauges, fittings, and information: http://www.ackits.com HTH!
  13. Hey 88, don't forget. The Finder requires a box to convert turn signals and brakelights to the same leads. The converter can be found in any Walmart or auto parts store for about $10-15.
  14. How about $65 including the headlight guards? It's in good shape and has all the mounting hardware. I'm in the Buford area.
  15. I'm about 95% sure they will. I have a factory brushguard off my '91 that I'm ready to sell and recently took a look at a '93 front end for a potential buyer. Although I couldn't physically see the bumper brackets, the bumper itself appears to be the same as my '91, so the upper bracket should fit. The only fly in the ointment is if you have the foglights mounted in the bumper vents. They might have to be removed in order for the upper guard brackets to pass through the bumper vent and bolt into the bumper bracket.
  16. Stay far away from the thru-glass antennas at these frequencies. They are miserable performers in the HF spectrum. It's easy enough to add a bracket to your tire carrier or use a trunk mount on the upper edge of your hatch. Even a mag-mount will work better than a thru-glass. HTH...
  17. Hey Tram, before going with the ARB Bull Bar, you might want to check with the TJM importer in Knoxville, TN. I was able to get a factory blem TJM winchmount Bull Bar for basically half price a couple of months ago. Even though a blem was not listed for my Pathfinder year model (91), I called and the helpful rep looked in their warehouse and called me back with an affirmative. Worth checking out... http://www.tjmbullbars.com/sale.htm
  18. Hmmm. I'm running 31x10.50s on a stock '91 SE and I have always gotten 18.5 mpg w/mostly highway driving (75mph), and around 16-17mpg when driving stop and go. I have done some extensive testing in the past and found that I can get around 21mpg if I set the cruise on 65mph (but who wants to do that!?!). Most recently, I did a tuneup on the vehicle at 130K miles (new plugs, wires, dist cap, fuel/air filter), and have been getting over 20 mpg on long trips (75mph)! After 5 tanks of gas, I don't believe this is a fluke. The only thing different has been the tuneup and the fact that I'm running 5W-50 oil instead of the usual 10W-30 or 10W-40. Weird!
  19. I picked up some aftermarket rear lifts from Advanced Auto about 2 years ago. They seem to work fine and are about 1/3 price of Nissan lifts...
