I think it is a trait of wagon/van type vehicles, they are inherently nosier than sedans as the rear wheel wells are open to the cab, rather than in a trunk. Our Sienna van is the same. Also all that open area makes a nice echo chamber, magnifying all the noise.

Do you have the BOSE 6 CD changer? If so, there is lots of info here about how bad that unit is. I get the errors as well but I find if I turn it off or change it to the tape or radio, I can eventulay get the CD to come out. Just drove a round trip of 11 hours each way, the CDs played the whole time with out one single blip. But I can drive across town and not have the thing work at all

Looking at the picture, one issue is how the load is distributed. It looks very biased to the rear (what with the bikes and stuff in the rear, behind the back seat) so I am not surprised that you had some issues. This would have a negative impact on the handling, as well as putting a lot of strain on the rear suspension. But very tough to remedy. The trailer will help quite a bit. I had a CEL at 70,000 km, it was a valve timing sensor. Comes back on every 5,000 km or so. My local shop just resets it for me (for free, nice guys ). It just seems to be a momentary glitch, enough to set the light off. For some reason, the computer is unable to reset itself as its supposed to if a trigger for the CEL (or SES) light goes away. So I just keep checking it and re-setting. One light was an O2 sensor, no biggie, rest are the other thing.

So, for those of you have the Bridgestone REVO's, and have experience in snow, what do you think? I had been all set to buy a set for this winter but one tire shop I have talked with does not recommend them as a winter tire, so I am looking for opinions of those that have used them in the snow. Canadian Driver has just posted its 00-04 used Xterra review here One section caught my eye, this comment: "While Nissan's latest truck models have had a few teething problems, the Xterra used proven components, including a 3.3-litre V6 (170 hp) borrowed from the 1996-2000 Pathfinder. That engine gets lots of love from owners of older Pathfinders for its improved durability over the more-powerful 3.5-litre engine used in 2001-2003 versions. The 3.3-litre engine has proven just as durable in the Xterra." Are all you 3.3 owners holding out on us 3.5s? Will my 3.5 implode at any time now? CD's reviwes are generaly pretty good but this comment seems a bit off base, what does everyone else think?

Welcome Heidi, Sorry to give you bad news but the BOSE unit is pretty much garbage and will only get worse. Check out this for more insight: link It is a well know problem, so I would suggest you use your warranty but just be prepared for future issues. I also get errors but just seem to make it work. The radio and tape player work fine, it is just the changer.

Driving lights (as compared to fog lights) are best mounted as high as possible, so using the stock holes that have the fog lights would not be the best solution. Although not practical, it is preferable they be at eye level to reduce glare back to the driver. Fog lights work best as low as they can go, to cut under the fog and reflect their light off of objects back to the driver.

I get rattles like that from small rocks stuck in the various shields, may want to look at that as well.

Be warned that the choice of headlight bulbs will bring up much discussion, as noted by Slick, a lot of it contrary I run GE Nighthawks in my 02, they are good, no coating, uniform light pattern (ie no hotspots). No cool blue tint but with all the rural night driving I do I prefer to see well rather than be seen as cool I gave up trying to be cool many years ago

Here are a couple of used reviews: 01-03 Pathy 96-00 Pathy They are split by the motor, not the change in body style of the 99.5. Hope these help. All the R50's are rock solid and very durable, no major issues that I am aware of.

Here is the exact wording from Section 9 of my 02 manual: Aftermarket fuel additives NISSAN does not recommend the use of any fuel additives (i.e.: fuel injector cleaner, octane booster, intake valve deposit removers, etc.) which are sold commercially. Many of these additives intended for gum, varnish or deposit removal may contain active solvents or similar ingredients that can be harmful to the fuel system and engine.

Section 9, Pages 9-2 to 9-4 (for mine anyway ) And the Great V is correct and I am WRONG :X :eek: They also do not recommend ANY fuel additives, like fuel injector cleaner, and the like. May void warranty.

Welcome to another 02 Chilkoot owner. What they said Except the premium fuel bit. I run regular with no problems, including some very steep hills, no pinging or anything like that. But I only have access to three grades of gasoline, maybe in the some areas there is a lower octane than what I use? I tried the good stuff over a several thousand km trial and noticed no difference in performance or fuel economy, so I see no benefit for the extra 10-13 cents per liter the stuff costs around here. I just changed to synthetic oil and the motor loves that stuff. Starting it up takes half as long (as if the VQ needs a long crank to start anyway), so I know it does something and I am willing to pay extra for that.

On my 02, shifting the OD button at 35 kph (22 mph) does not do anything, it is too slow (school zone slow). Need to get up to 50 kph (30 mph) or so before the OD will kick in. I know no help, just my experience
