  1. If you are going to all that trouble you might as well start looking at a VQ40 and put the 6-speed manual in it....... that would make it all worth while ......... 265 hp and 284 tq shift_f^(k_yeaaaahhhh!!!!!!!!
  2. Yes, I've read the thread and I realize it requires the rear coils. I'm just wondering if the 4.5" will be available in a reasonable time frame. I don't mind waiting if its really happening. And I would rather not buy the AC front coils if they are only temporary. I really need to dump the grannywagon look, and I will do the 2" if the 4.5" is in never never land.
  3. Yeah rmd...... I'm with ya. I'd rather keep things kosher down in the nitty gritty of the engine, pay for it and know its for the best. But, if there is no-risk to using lower octane, I'd like to have the facts and pursue that if it doesnt hurt anything mechanically.
  4. Any updates to the availability of the 4.5" lift???? Just got a new job with a pretty sweet pay raise. Celebration list includes getting my station wagon up a little higher, tempted to go with the AC lift just cause its a now thing. But would prefer the 4.5". Is this gonna happen any time soon? Sheeet, I'd settle for buying the specs and having it built locally if I have to. build it and they will come........ please
  5. There's a super charger for this baby??????? Damn, keep it away from me ... would cost my lead foot a fortune. I already test my 0-90 daily for kicks...... gonna have to quit that for a while till the Clampetts strike a new claim. ok pardon my mechanical ineptitude..... i appreciate the response 88, but please help me decode. it'll retard.... (will that be something i feel on the road? really dont want to feel a performance loss) ...... on low octane but no serious internal risk? when i get the SES light, i should ignore it (do i risk having a more serious malfunction go unnoticed)? If I decedide to pay to have it flashed.....does the flash change how my engine operates? or does it just change the SES threshold?
  6. ok... so my 01 3.5 LE's manual says premium fuel only. when i use mid-grade my ses comes on every time. I see some of you use mid or regular without a problem. do i just need an ecu flash? and for those of you who did it... did the dealer charge you? gas is rising fast.... if i can use a lower grade i would really enjoy it in the wallet.
  7. ok ...... i'll spare you the drooling, as it seems the point has been made. we can expect the autocad files posted when exactly?
  8. Vsicks If it wasn't stickied in the product page, where the hell would it be??? Am I missing something? Should it be stickied to the noobs foreheads? Or maybe to their credit card, so they see it when they try to pay for the wrong item on ebay.
  9. Good thing the white one doesn't run... think of all the time you're gonna spend chasing SES lights now. Ha... congratulations on the bling. Ohhhh, and I have heated leather seats too, give me a shout if you want to go cruisin for soccer milfs.
  10. I have found this tire size quite functional with the stock suspension, it will serve my needs well until I decide to fork out the ducat$ for the lift. As for the CD changer issue... That's a great link for info on the gripe, I found several other threads of similar tones back when I was deciding which direction I wanted to go to repair mine. I am happy to have abandoned the stock setup, no need to worry about recurring problems. Many have repaired and replaced that clarion disc changer (with much headache and $$$) only to have the malfunction re-occur. I am convinced it is a design flaw and that it will continue to happen no matter how many times you send it in. How many times can you spend $400 to repair a 6 disc changer?? How many hours do you want to spend griping to Nissan or Clarion, hoping for a cheaper way out. How long do you want to listen to static ridden am/fm while you wait for it to be shipped? I don't have time for that nonsense. In one afternoon I replaced all the stock crap in the dash. My replacement unit plays mp3's and has integrated sirius controls in the dash unit, and an aux input for an ipod. I have far more than 6 discs worth of music available at one time. And the bonus... I get an extra map pocket.. wooHoo!!!!
  11. I hope 2006 treats you as well as 2005 Pezzy. I found a bunch of helpfull threads previously and replaced the bald michelins that were on it when I bought it with a set of 6 -ply Toyo Open Country AT's 245/75/16. It still doesn't look like a 4wd truck to me though. And I worry about that a lot when I roll out of Kirkwood after a long, cold, wet day snowboarding.... my frozen rump nestled into my heated leather seats .
  12. Ok, so I joined about a year ago when my wife bought a new (to her) station wagon ... errr... R50. I was perhaps a little shy about posting in the newbie forum. A bit belated, I offer my hellos, and thanks. Much research had gone into the decision and the 01 LE addressed the most of my wifes needs whithout sacrificing reliability. Was I pushing her toward more rugged alternatives, with more mod flexibility? Sure, but first and foremost its her car, and she needed to be happy with it. So upon recieving the pathfinder I had the, what seems to be, most common concerns of a newbie. One: How do I resolve this f  up cd changer business. And two: Can I get bigger tires to accentuate what little ruggedness is left in the current form of the pathy. I found the npora forum a great resource and starting point for all my concerns and have enjoyed browsing the posts from time to time to try to educate myself about the vehicle. Life changes ensued, as they always do, and my wife finds herself doing a great deal more driving at her new job. We have added an 05 prius to our automotive quiver and I sadly relinquished my Tacoma (company car) back to my previous employer. So here I am with my hand me down grocery getter. Dreaming of an AC lift, warn hubs, bumpers, rims, tires, subwoofer, limited slip, and on, and on, and on. Todays post from Luker A bit of Heaven put me over the edge. Bravo. Had to introduce myself and get moving toward the day that I post a gallery like that (mouth still watering). So... before I write a book, thanks to all the members who have put together such a wealth of info about these vehicles, and to all those hosting and moderating for keeping this well organized and good natured. I have really appreciated it. Daydreaming in Silicon Valley.......
  13. I bought an aftermarket head unit from crutchfield and they supplied the dash kit. It has a little map pocket under the stereo to fill the cd slot. It fits pretty well, perhaps a little too much gap above the stereo and below ac control. they want $20 if you buy it alone. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IFOIanj2Mxm/c...asp?i=003NDK717
  14. He must have bumped into you unexpectedly, otherwise he would've locked em in the garage before he left the house to meet you.
  15. Agrees with simon.....IMO, with all things mechanical, any opportunity to reduce moving parts and maintain function is a no brainer. Particularly helpful for those who have further stressed their front drive components with a lift. I am definately intrigued by the Warn manual lockers. Reduces wear and tear, improves mpg, or leave em locked and shift on the fly, as if you had put on stock replacement. Operators choice. Sounds like the best of both to me.
  16. wow.... whats my deal then? if use anything less than premium i get a check engine light. i
  17. could you remember soon, my finger tip is developing a blister. kidding in all seriousness, perhaps you could direct me to where you found your solution.
  18. my other transportation: feet bike train bus f-150 tacoma prius you seem to be really misunderstanding me... perhaps i'll quit responding to this thread.
  19. well, no luck yet. the thing is, the sliding button when fully closed, continues to work. when i release it then press it again, it doesnt just stay closed, it crosses over into button 2 function and raises the sunroof rear edge. am i missing something or is this a seperate issue?
  20. i hope ur right, thats way too easy... im going to run outside and give it a shot
  21. actually, i said that..... and i'm not bundy from NZ. and it was just an observation, not a judgement. i have no idea why any of these people drive a car that gets less than 20 miles to the gallon, and has extremely high emissions. i'm sure they all have a reason and i don't care to judge if its valid. i just here to find support for maintaining my vehicle.
  22. wow.... quite a lot of environmental drama for a group of people known as nissan offroaders. wouldnt that imply that every one of us burns fossil fuel for recreation? hmmmm...... disregarding the environmental politics and focusing on the question at hand....... it is possible to lose power by over sizing your exhaust as has been mentioned above...... i would reccomend not only an exhaust specialist but a specialist who knows your motor's needs as well, seeing as you are trying to employ a unique system. perhaps dual pipes with a smaller diameter would alleviate the torque-loss issue. who knows, but im sure whatever route you take the board would be interested in your results. peace to all
  23. i dont know if they really call it a "smart" key, but it has a signal like a remote control to enable ignition. no signal = no vroom vroom. sounds "smart" to me.
  24. yes siree, my thoughts exactly, but where??????? i suppose i'll start on the roof control panel and work backward from there. ? . ? i am pretty clueless when it comes to automotive electrical. interestingly, i found out that it started the same day my wife bought a new smart key at the dealer and had the old and new keys reprogrammed to start the car. i assumed that was a non invasive process, but is it possible they bumped some wiring or something in the process? not sure what is involved to reprogram the ignition and the keys..... if i knew it might give me a location to look for the short/crossover. any thoughts appreciated..
  25. my 2 cents ... i have a set of cooper discovery a/t (31x10.5x15) on my f-150. absolutletly a different tire than trainmans link. my f-150 is my beater not a daily driver but it does see a fair amount of snow, dirt, gravel, and mud. have about 8k miles on the tires, hardly any wear yet. tires are quiet and smooth. i have friends who used the tires on heavier trucks and for more load hauling, and they wore very fast. i havent seen any evidence of fast wear on mine, but i tend to put lots of gear in my truck, not heavy loads. wouldn't expect wear to be an issue on a pathy. I think if you are concerned about price the coopers would work for ya. you'll save a bundle compared to the bridgestones or bfgs that most are fans of. making it a nickel.... as for traction... i have a limited slip rear diff (first truck i have had with this)and that has impressed me from day one even on worn tires. i'm not rally racing or rock crawling this truck, but i do like to get out and explore, and these tires have served well especially considering i paid $85 per tire. sounds like your main traction concerns would be rain and snow, i would rate these tires at least 8 of 10 (consider your source.... different truck) if you want a dime keep reading.... i put toyo open country a/t's on my tacoma last year ..... 8 ply (don't laugh) and have been really happy with them. its my work truck and gets a lot of miles and a lot of wet/dirt/gravel/muddy roads. at 20k miles no uneven treadwear, actually hardly any treadwear period. wont be surprised if i get the full 50k miles out of them or more, and that will be a first for my work truck. great in snow but lacking in mud traction as any a/t will. i do get a little rear tire spin from time to time from a stop if the bed is empty, the road is wet and i'm turning (i don't have limited slip in the tacoma). i am hard on tires at work and go through them quickly. the performance on these convinced me to put them on the pathy, but used the 6-ply for a little more comfort. i think these tires are a great deal if you have a little more budget. still cheaper than the bridgestones or bfgs happy shopping
