  1. It's definitely a ryco Z416. Changed mine last weekend. PS The position for the oil filter must have been designed by a moron because it is EXTREMELY difficult to locate back onto the thread ( let alone get a grip on it to remove!) Try attacking it by removing left wheel and reach thru side access. Get someone from above to reach down and remove old filter once released or else diesel oil everywhere!! Good luck (until next change!!) Buzz. PS I'm getting a new STX shortly... anyone interested in a Terrano ????
  2. They are brand spanking new - based on the new Pathfinder design. I ordered mine in March this year and still waiting!!! Not expecting till July (maybe) I'm told that the Nissan factory in Spain is working 24/7 and still can't keep up with USA and Europe orders. Australia gets the left overs!! Fuel economy with diesel is about 9litres per 100kms for an automatic - sorry you will have to convert to miles per gallon. I'm not sure if they are called same in USA..... check on the net and see if we are talking about the same vehicle. Anyway I'll let you know what its like when I get it!!. Buzz
  3. Am about to get a Nissan Navara STX dualcab diesel for a company vehicle. Does anyone know any good info on vehicle other than standard Nissan hype by dealers?? Buzz
  4. Govols74n......you were absolutely right. ( Sorry I didn't respond sooner) The two bolts in question were loose by 3/4 of a turn and now the Terrano is as quiet as a diesel can be!! Realllllllly appreciate the help. Buzz
  5. My 1991 Terrano/Pathfinder has an annoying clunk that feels like it is below driver floor/foot area. I haven't had it off road to see what happens but on the road if I bounce in a large dip and get some major travel in the suspension I get this metal clunk on one side only that I can feel thru the floor. I have torsion bars adjusted so body is as high as possible - no time yet to remove and regrease to see if that is problem..?? I have replaced compression bar bushes, have cleaned both front brakes, repacked bearings and made sure tight but still get noise. Doesn't make a noise when turning or mounting footpaths at strange angles.........Any ideas?? Buzz :help:
  6. I have a persistant diesel fuel leak in my 1991 Terrano. It drips from around the fuel pump down on to torsion bar. It is difficult to locate the source as there is too much plumbing. Have been quoted Aust.$1200 to replace seals but believe costs is mainly in labour to get in and out. Can this job be done at home or should this be left to professionals?? Have been told that Diesel fuel has changed in Aust and that may have stuffed the seals. Is there anything on internet to help??? Buzz
  7. Did you clean the external fins of the radiator really well ? The only change from Terrano working properly before the mishap appears to be the mud. Good luck Buzz
  8. Do you know if you can get an oil filter relocation kit to suit a 1991 diesel Terrano. Would be interested as filter is a bugger to change. Whoever designed its location at Nissan should have been sacked and sent to the Mitsubishi factory!!! Buzz
  9. Wasn't there an issue with front hub internal seals squealing when they get dirty/old. I recall reading it somewhere. Can someone add a bit more light on this as I can't locate relevant info?? Could be the answer if not brakes or bearings. Good Luck Buzz
  10. Another option could be to use a "rivnut". We use them in our sheetmetal fabrication division at work. They work on the same principle as a pop rivet except the internal pin is actually a metal thread. You would only need to drill clearance hole for rivnut body in "old hole" position, insert and engage with rivnut gun!Sounds easy but would certainly help if you knew someone in sheetmetal trade! At least you wouldn't be stuffing around with magnets etc Good Luck Buzz

Can you find the Nissan part no for the gasket and then I can check cost for item in Australia. Sounds like I might have been quoted wrong part?? Buzz

    Sunroof Repair

I phoned Nissan Australia in Adelaide and sales guy told me gasket was $148.00 (Aust) ex Japan .... Does that sound expensive compared with Brown and Brown Nissan in Tempe AZ or do you think he has quoted wrong part??? Buzz

    Sunroof Repair

My 1991 Terrano has a factory fitted sunroof that unfortunately with the ravages of time and weather, has cracked/perished the rubber seal on it's hinged edge. This rubber seal appears to have been extruded directly onto the glass edge - not added as a separate sealing strip. I want to check if any D21 Pathfinders are fitted with same glass sunroof and if any one has fixed this problem before?? I don't want to import a complete glass panel from Japan because of a bit of damaged rubber ... it will cost big bucks!!! I have done a quick fix with black silicone but would appreciate any other ideas to give a professional finish. Buzz
  14. Have you tried a spot of "superglue" on end of a nail and try to adhere to broken piece of key in lock barrel. If tumbler/key is still aligned - should pull out! Worked a treat on my glovebox lock. Don't use too much instant glue as you don't want to stuff up the lock .. Give it a try Buzz
  15. Diesel Boy - Yep we are being ripped off big time. Unleaded went to $1.08.9c per litre and diesel was $1.04 ish on weekend!! Gov. says its related to the falling Aust dollar and the increase in crude oil prices overseas. What I can't understand is the fuel we use today wasn't refined yesterday. So if it was obtained say 6months ago at a lower price, who is getting the profit........... probably oil companies first and then government as they tax the fuel per litre!!! (higher price = higher revenue/tax) Also Australia has it's own oil resources (not 100%) so you would think the influence from overseas would be proportional to our dependence on the Middle East.......?????????? Am I looking at things all wrong???? Buzz
  16. In Adelaide South Australia - petrol (unleaded) is $1.00 a litre and diesel $1.03 a litre. Not sure what that calculates in US but it still sounds expensive!! Buzz
  17. Pete, Don't be too concerned, as you will understand our explanations a lot better as you start doing the work. The inner CV housing ( once removed) looks like someone has pressed a jam lid into the mating surface, Steve was explaining that you knock housing towards outer end of shaft. What you are trying to do is allow the shaft and CV joint inside the housing to knock the jam lid off the end..... is that simple enough??? Once the lid is off, the CV / circlip etc (and grease) is exposed so that you can start disassembling as per earlier instructions. Watch out after you have replaced all boots, clamps etc and you are handling shaft back into car that you don't accidently push the shaft back against the "jam lid" and it falls out! It's all quite simple with a bit off patience and a mate to help. Let me know when you are doing job and I'll keep an eye out on Forum if you get stuck. Did the boot part nos mean anything in NZ?? Also received LEDs for Terrano dash today so I will let you know if any good. Buzz
  18. Pete, SW and I have both replaced boots on same weekend on different vehicles but basically the same method. We had further discussions about disassembly and understanding of your last reply. So I'll try to clarify a bit better. The inner CV is fitted into a housing with an internal circlip that stops you pulling shaft out of your front diff. You have to unbolt housing (via 6bolts) to separate shaft from diff. At the outer end both SW and I removed the hub assembly from the upper and lower support arms etc This makes the shaft easier to work on but we can't see any reason why you can't take the shaft and hub assembly out as one piece. Hope you have a beefy mate to help you lift it! There is not too much you can do wrong and you'll learn so the second one will be easier. PS removing the hub doesn't affect the bearings. On the Terrano you remove auto lock hub unit via allen keys, remove circlip and ENSURE you make a note how the washers are fitted for later. Then the hub assembly just slides off the shaft!!! When you go to refit hub/washers, the circlip groove sometimes is hard to locate. Hold the end of shaft with vicegrips and pull towards yourself as there is play in the newly greased joints/boots. We both don't understand why you need to take out in one piece as there is no advantage. The outer joint could be harder to clean if still attached to hub. Good luck Buzz and Steve (ps we work in the same office!)
  19. Once you have disassembled inner joint, don't forget to slip on outer boot before you fit inner boot. You will probably need to cut outer boot off rather than sliding old outer boot along axle and then slide new boot on. Otherwise Steve 's steps are "spot on" Only reason I am advising you is because I forgot - there was alot of swearing!! Also keep a jack handy as you may need independent support when undoing shocker. Buzz
  20. Ignore last line" is different part no etc etc"" Just a typo! Getting late - better go to bed!!! Buzz
  21. Replaced front CV boots on weekend on my 1991 Diesel Terrano Outer boot is common between 1991 V6 Pathfinder, 1989 4cylinder Pathfinder 4WD, 1991 Navara Diesel 4WD and 1991 Diesel Terrano r3m ( and probably others) V6 Pathfinder has it's own unique Inner boot 4cyl Pathfinder, Navara and Terrano listed above all share the same Inner boot. Australian Company called Kelray Aust. sell for $9.80 each (Aus). Trade name is Kelpro CV Boots Part Nos COB001 - Outer CV Boot Part No CIB503 - Inner CV Boot V6 Pathfinder Part No CIB513 - Inner CV Boot Terrano, Navara, 4cyl Pathfinder listed above Hope this helps Aust/NZ Terrano/Pathfinder owners. Buzz is different part no but also common between models listed above
  22. Am replacing inner and outer CV boots on my 1991 Diesel Terrano. Have purchased type to match 1989 4cylinder Pathfinder. Friend suggests that these could be wrong and should have been to suit V6 Pathfinder. Is there a difference?? Can someone please advise Buzz

    Dash Lights

Thanks for all the input. I might tread carefully at first and use the old "trial and error" approach by fitting a couple of different types of bulbs till I find the right intensity. I may get lucky and not need to perform surgery with needles etc. Does anyone know the wattage for these bulbs?? Thanks Buzz
