Guys, Get over the "wedge" thing please! I need to fix this before Friday so I can use the vehicle. I agree that the bulb is a pull out style wedge and it is fitted by a brown twist fitting into the back of the "dash/speedo cluster" BUT the bulbs are clear and the blue cover is IN the hole inside the main dash speedo body. How do I take that apart to remove the blue covers inside??? The main body appears to snap together as a back, centre and front clear moulding but with manual speedo/needle fitted between back and centre moulding, I don't want to pull apart and cause a disaster Any ideas??? I have pulled speedo cluster etc out and have removed bulb from back panel(with copper track ) Looking inside hole there appears to be a blue inner cover?? How do I get to them to remove?? How do I remove / dismantle the plastic housing without damaging something internal ie speedo needle?? There is obviously a split between the white rear body housing, the black face and the clear front but I'm afraid to venture further without some advice!!! Buzz
  3. I spent 12months trying to find wiring diagram for Terrano shift lock and eventually gave in to a little bit of "shifter persuasion". Some times the simplest way is the best way. Glad it helped some one else Buzz
  4. Diesel Boy Simple modification to get rid of Auto Shift lock Solenoid problem 1)Remove console cover to Auto Shift stick 2)Select suitable shifter or vice grips 3)Bend back striker bracket that solenoid lever engages into (about 90degrees should do!) Wala!!! Shift stick moves without ignition on, foot on break etc. (minor miracle) Cost = $0's (minimum outlay of sweat) Only reason I did mine was because solenoid didn't release at all (electrical problem I think). It meant I had to manually release "everytime it was in park"!!!! What a stupid idea. Hope this helps Buzz

Has anyone replaced the globes behind the speedo/dash display. My 1991 Terrano dash lights appear dull (no adjustment to increase intensity!!) and I would like to see what speed I'm doing at night!! Is there a limit to increasing the wattage of globes before something is overloaded ie cable, fuse or printed circuit board etc??? I have pulled out the dash when rebuilding the vehicle 2 years ago so logistics is not a problem - just curious if anyone has had same problem and rectified it??? Buzz
  6. Would like more details on trans mod. The red plug you mentioned, is that in a group of 4 (3 grey and 1brown/red) between the battery and brake fluid reservoir? If so is it the blue wire with black trace?? It's amazing how many blue wires you can find when you need to cut one? Also can you explain the operation of the power switch that is situated on the dash next to steering column. Does the trans mod switch affect this power switch? Are you aware of any problems that would occur if you kept the lockup disengaged for any length of time? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks!
