Equus 3030 OBD II Car Reader

UPDATE April 11/06:

 

So had the code read at the local shop today, they use the latest SnapOn reader. Could not read for an 02 or 03. No data available from Nissan. Could not even re-set the light.

 

So, will the cheapie ones work?

 

 

Will the Equus 3030 OBD II Car Reader read the SES codes on the 02 Pathfinders?

It wouldn't be OBDII if it were non-standard. I've used generic code readers on all kinds of vehicles, newer Pathfinders included. Works fine.

Trainman, you're somewhat right. OBDII codes starting with P0 are generic and will be the same for any OBDII vehicle. Codes starting with P1 are manufacturer specific and might use a different meaning for the same code number. If the Equus code reader includes text descriptions of the codes, you'll need to translate them to the Nissan meaning if they are P1 codes. But any OBDII reader will still be able to read the actual code numbers.

 

For example:

 

P1110 - OBDII generic code is Intake Air Temp. Sensor

P1110 - Nissan specific code is Intake Valve Timing Control

the book it comes will have a lot of the codes in it, mfg specific, i know my dads OBD2 book has a section for each of the common MFGs but sometimes it throws a code thats not in the book and you have to call nissan or whoever to call it, my dad is professional mechanic so he gets his fair share of that stuff

Thanks, so I was not like totally confused, only partly.

 

It comes with some sort of cd that has a bunch of info. The web site is a little vague on this and the Canadian Tire parts guy does not have a clue.

lol, its really easy to use, it should come with a book that has a lot of codes in it, if its not there than it has to be MFG specific, extremely simple

Apparently it is the 02 and up. Nissan does not release the code data for 4 years, so 01 would work (it did at the shop) but 02 and younger right now will not.
