sorry man the only thing ive wheelied is my R1. what are the pro's and cons to my truck?

theres not to many cons, but a hella lot of pros, im xtremely amazed at what these trucks can handle stock, i cant even tell u how impressed i am with these trucks, the only major thing would be to install an aftermarket tranny cooler and bypass the old one, the old one is in the rad so u cant take it out, its an easy upgrade that will save u a ton of money in the long run

Welcome PainShop, browse around and you will find out so much about these trucks, pros and cons. There is a ton of info here so take your time, anything you don't see, just ask about.

Oh and try out the search feature, it's a little odd but you'll figure it out :aok:

ok. first thing you HAVE to do is take your pathy off road...... THEN and ONLY then can you say the ONLY thing you off road is your R1 (whatever that may be? a bike i assume?) you will be suprised.. as i was. hell.. i sold my jeep over this and even preferred to wheel my pathy over the jeep in the end.. and my jeep was all lifted n bad ass while my baby was stock then  extremely versatile vehicles indeed.

cons... hmm.. i have a 92 5 speed.... no "cons" except the IFS..... now.. my pathy and i have a love/hate relationship.. i have done an exceptional amount of motor work to mine.... and so have not yet attacked the suspension just yet..

beware that if you have no idea when your t-belt was last changed.. DO IT. every 60,000 miles religously. t-belt breaks and you'll be inna world of hurt... change the h2o pump and t'stat while you're there.. good insurance.

an oil filter relocation kit will also allow you an extra 1/2 quart of oil and save you much broken knuckle action on oil changes.. also.. for more pony power and a nice rumble.. thorley headers and some 2.5" pipe runnin to a good muffler and a high flow cat sly and a K & N air filter .. VG motors love to breathe n fart good.. they run better that way ;)

most of all......... enjoy your pathy and she will teach you much

mine taught me to throw spectacular temper tantrums and also how to pull a VG30E motor apart with my eyes closed  with a wrench in one hand and a jack n coke in the other -alcohol-

yea they're great trucks and can be a PITA to work on sometimes but i've had an 87 for about 6 years and in those 6 it left me stranded 2 times (1 time the pos battery cable rubbed thru the insulation and melted my battery the other was my fault in not changing the timing belt on time highly recomend doing that) and recently i broke the motor (once again my fault i always blow out around the plugs before pulling them to get any debris out but i guess this 1 piece didnt blow out and fell in the cylinder and hit between the piston and head)

so that truck is currently in the middle of a motor swap but i learned how to work on it and it was so dependable that i didnt wanna go to something else so i bought a 95 off of my cousin which the awsome part about that is i can snag stuff off of the 87 if i need to

you gotta wheel it at least once or more they're pretty tough trucks i've never broken anything (major) although i didnt try to do any hardcore rock climbing but have been thru some hairy stuff and after i was thru it i knew something was busted but after inspection everything was ok...

good luck with the truck and i hope you enjoy it as much as i have mine

and they're not too bad to learn on...its what i've done most of my major learning on

Since you have a 5 speed, you might want to read this. I had to replace the trans in my '87 right after I bought it. The truck has it's pros and cons just like any other vehicle but like everyone else has said, they're surprisingly tough and capable offroad (once you upgrade the stock centerlink :aok: ). Mine just hit 200K miles last month. It's actually pretty hard to kill these things.

i have a 93 pathy too.. GREAT TRUCK! best year too! XE or SE... i believe if you have 2 trip odometers in the 93 than you have the SE. If only 1, than its an XE. I'm 80% sure about this, but i could be wrong, its happen once before.
