Best Shocks

Cheapo's = Monroe, Rancho 5000

MR = Rancho RS9000X

Droolers = Ohlins & Penske!

But what do you want them for? Some OEM style shocks are perfectly adequate for day to day driving and moderate off roading...

My Pathy came with some old Sears Roadtamer shocks, and they work unbelievably well. Possibly the optimal balance for on and off road in a non-adjustable shock.

I've got Rancho 5000's and they're great, much better than the sloppy old stock ones. One advantage to Rancho is that they 2 offer lengths for both stock and suspension lifted heights. I was cross shopping, and Pro Comp didn't have that, they just offered a recommended range of something like stock-1.5" lift. Oh, and $85 a pair as opposed to $180 a pair. :huh:

Dude, Rancho> Monroe.

Actually, aren't they owned by the same company?

Bilstein is quality stuff too. KYB isn't bad, notoriously stiff. Koni is another cool company that doesn't make truck stuff.

From what I've read, shocks are like batteries. A few major brands that also supply, many variations within the brands and models, etc. Stick with a big guy, you should be ok. Now if only they sold oil.

So the Ranchos over the Monroes then.

Ranchos got more travel by comparison of your before and afters there.

well.. i also have bigger tires on her now, but yes, the Rancho are longer shocks than stock. If you put more lift on you may want to even go with the Rancho 9000's like i believe 88 has... once i do body & susp lift i will be going with 9000's, but until then, the 5000's work great :aok:
