what will it take to remove spare from back & hang underneath in a 98 pathfinder?

 

1) eqipment/parts to hang underneath

2) eqipment/parts to cover up holes & convert rear bumper/tailgate

 

is there at kit?

I've never heard of it being done -- but is there even room back there? It would take a lot of spare room underneath to fit a 31 tire without affecting your suspension or ground clearances. At least I would think so.

do you have that little chain and mechanism that lifts/drops the tire from underneath?

 

the hole for it is in the rear bumper and you need that 3 foot long tool from undrer the seat to use it.

The tool and winch would be simple to aquire/install... Just pull the fuel tank and you will have plenty of room for the tire !!!

You have a vivid imagination. As B pointed out, he will have to remove the fuel tank. This leaves us asking... How on Earth did he get there to get bogged in the first place?

i've gotten stuck, and then realized i had a flat tire. not sure how i pulled that off but its entirely possible, trust me but in all seriousness, having the tire under your truck is good for looks and good for storage but not too practical if you ever have to change a tire in less-than-ideal conditions.

 

but hey, you'd have to remove the fuel tank anyways

That reminds me of ECXC a few years ago... before having the rear tire carrier on the X - so it was under the truck, we were offroading on a VERY muddy trail, on a VERY rainy day... We get thru a section when the girl behind us encounters a tire in the trail and radios asking about it. I am wondering WTF, how could that be? We just did that section... how did we not see a TIRE IN THE TRAIL?? so Hubby gets out, has a looksie... seems the mud was high enough that it pushed the tire up, and the chain must not have been tight enough, and it came thru, leaving the tire smack dab in the high center of the trail...

 

 

on topic... wouldnt his truck have the space underneath just as those us us without rear tire carriers?

I just realised that it is a 98 not an 88. I do not know where the fuel tank runs on a 98 model.

AHAHAHAHA !! I did the same damn stupid thing... Sorry reils !! Ignore my first post... Yes, who was it who just tipped Moms pathy ? There was a pict of the underneath when it was laying on its side. The gas tank was basically under the rear seats, drivers side I think... yep, here it is... looks straight forward. Pick courtesy of DSM_guy...

As for what you will be removing.. I suppose what ever is on the hatch, and the hinges.

I had the spare tire underneath on my S-10...... what a PITA first off.. really hard to get the tool thingie through the hole and aligned to drop the tire.. then you have to crawl underneath anyway to retrieve said tire... needless to say the first time i needed the spare was the last time it went underneath my truck... i would keep it inside or on the roof.. but not underneath... especially if you plan on going off road... you wanna lay inthe mud to get yer tire? i sure wouldn't! my .02
