Starting gremlins, bad ECCS?

Alright so I had a lose wire near the battery, it was making the radio make funny sounds and made my tach read a few k higher than norm. Anyway the other day it just completely died while taking off in 1st gear. No power, so I got the lose wire and fixed it. Power now but no start.

So the fuel pump relay and AAC valve under the plenum are now clicking in sequence about once/second. So I go to the ECCS and the red light is also blinking in sequence. This is all when the key is in run obviously.

Well I checked compression, check and checked for shorts, I have spark spiratically and probably the same with fuel. Cant read codes off the ecu. And no spark when the Idle air valve is unhooked.

When the fuel pump relay is pulled the AAC valve still clicks, but when I pull the AAC valve the relay and ecu quit. Its like the ecu shuts off when I pull that AAC valve.

I could go on, but hopefully this is enough for someone to help me out with. Really need this thing running its my only car at the moment. Thanks.

Do you know what this loose wire goes to ? Why can you not read the ECU ? Start by checking all the main power cables, fusable link, fuses, etc. I don't understand why it would click or why you would have "spark spiratically"... I'm assuming the starter works and engages the motor. Please post any additional information.

The wire that was loose went to the fusebox inside I believe, it pretty much shut everything down. I an electrician so I know its got good connection now.

Yes the starter operates fine.

Well the spiratic spark is basically because the ecu keeps turning off and on, or so I believe. Thats why the relay and aac motor are clicking the ecu is shutting off and then back one.

All that red light does on the ecu is flash when I am trying to check it. And if I unplug the AAC motor the ecu doesnt do anything.

Pretty much what makes me think the ecu is shot.

That is very odd... I've not heard of a problem like this before. I'm still not sure it is the ECU. Any chance that it got wet recently ?? As for the blinking, thats how you read it while in diagnostic mode, but I think you mean something different. Here is the link just because...

Sorry that I'm not much of a help, but I'm not that good with electrical issues compounded by not being there...

Maybe that wire shorted something ? You may have to take it to a good shop.

Funny that you mention wet.

Well whenever under the hood did get wet, the tach would start jumping all over the place. Which is basically the same wire that lost contact when it died.

Yes I understand how to diagnos the ECU. But before I even turn the screw to make it diagnose its already blinking. When ever the key is in run its already blinking, once per second, blinking exactly the same time the relay and AAC click.

Thanks, I pm'ed that guy.

More funny info.... well I just realized that these things do have check engine lights, I've never seen mine, even when just turning the key to run when lights are supposed to check?

Also had a buddy get me a few measurment for the ecu....

Fuel pump is supposed to be .7 - .9 volts within 5 sec of turning the key. I get consant 11.9 (which is what my battery is down to at this point)

The 2 power wires for the ecu i get 8.9 constant volts.

And the AAC valve i get 1.8 volts when its clicking, soon as I take that valve off I get 11.9

Nothing makes sense?

Well, it's certainly an electrical issue... I don't think the ECU controls the voltage to the fuel pump, etc so thats prob not the issue. What exactly was this wire, and where does it go ? You said you think the fuse box ? Time to isolate and trace. Sounds like fuggered wiring to me, but I have no idea where...

Agreed "Nothing makes sense?"...

man... I've been following along and this has me baffled too. I'd love to be able to point to something specific but this maybe a multi-failure. If I can think of any diagnostics or anything, I'll post. Silence does not mean you are being ignored, I'm just still thinking and looking at some diagrams.

Awesome guys thanks for thinking of me.

I just got my summer car back out of storage so I wont be quite as antsy to get this thing going.

As far as the other questions/suggestions.

-I'm pretty sure the ecu controls the relay to the fuel pump at least, that wire I checked for it was on a pin off the ecu.

-As far as where the wire goes it doesnt matter. It was just a loose connection right off the battery and I fixed that. The only thing that makes sense is that this loose connection cause a voltage spike and fried something. But I have checked and checked all kinds of wires.

Just thought that I would update you guys....

After a bunch of testing and what not, my best guess is still the ecu. I am sending it out tomorow to a place that will test it and rebuild it if necessary. Just a little cheaper than most places charge for a refurbished ones anyways, and I dont have to spend 250-300 on one that Im not 100% is needed.

After dealing with a bunch of retards that I sent my ecu too....

I got it back yesterday opened it up and went to town with the solderering iron, I jumpered a burned trace on the board. That the tech's couldnt find.

Anyways the ecu works now, and the car runs kinda.

It idles very bad, have to give it gas to keep it going. It wants to idle really low and die, then I give it just a touch of gas and it revs to 3k for a second and then back down the whole time sputtering and missing.

Unplugged the MAF and it idles revving between 2500 and 3000 all on its own.

Cant I ever catch a break....
