Casey.T
Fun Fun on Saturday morning ending in a :allclean: for the Pathys. Do the usual Saturday afternoon things. Then Halloween Carnival for the boys, then they are off to a Slumber party at someone esles house. WOOOOOTTTTT!!!!! No Kids for the evening MORE FUN FUN with the Wifey out for dinner, no movies are interesting so blockbuster here we come and we even get an extra hour then all morning 2:30 time to go get the boys, get in CLICK, CLICK, WTF :X , pop hood, oooo did not clean that part after the fun. Dont see any loose connections, tap starter with long screw driver, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK... Try it in Neutral, park, hell even in gear, CLICK,CLICK now in the Imorratal words of Slick "Im Miffed".... NP I have the starter from the 92 only 10' away, have to pull it out first. Its ready for the engine to be pulled....... Get it out NP in like 10 min... Now to pull the 95, I re-read the book, even consulted with Fun with Starters This was a stock starter with the heat shield, gaurd on it....... PITA to get those 3 little screws out so you can rotate it to get it to slip out the front above the center link, but manage to accomplish it. Go grab the 92's starter off the bench, did not have it fully grasped and it starts to fall.......BANG right on the solinoid and into 2 pieces :furious: ....neighbor comes over to see if im alright :furious: ......... Who's open on a Sunday afternoon at 5pm??? Got to have the 95 for work.....Shucks is.... hit parts america online order it for pick up.....go up to get it like 10 min away and its not in stock according to the computer.... WTF.... its at a different location, call, call, call, call, none anywhere in Spokane :furious: .....finally I convince the idiot at the desk to go look on the shelf where its supposed to be(online orders remove it from local invintory so they dont sell it before its pick up)OMFG its there. ($150) Get back the house, slip it into place, reconnect the oil sending unit wire connect the clip on and the + cable to the starter, tighten it all back up.....Turn the key and nothing...............LMAO its dark out now and I did not notice I had not lights at all. Reconnect the Battery and try again........ Varoooooooooom................. Replace the skid plate and get back to some normallity around the house on a Sunday evening. This was not the first time I have gotten into one of my pathy's and had nothing from the starter, the 88 i changed 2x, 1st time by myself, second time I traded a 12pack to my brother in law. That was the best trade I have ever made Edited October 31, 2005 by Casey.T

Terrano
That was fun to read)))))))))))) I had almost the same experience. The same situation, though the lights on the dashboard switch on, but nothing happens when I turn the key, only a strange clicking sound. I remember having this problem once on another car, so I am ready to go buy a new starter, when my friend tells me to start with trying another battery. I do so, and everything is fine... so I buy another battery and that's all. The problem was that the batterycould not give enough power to turn the engine, but there was still something left to blink the lights )))

Casey.T
This will make the 3th starter in 10 years and between 3 rigs, none of the after markets have the shield.....imo not needed... but I do believe it has a purpose for what I do not know, ill leave that some someone else....
