Coolant Temp Sensor

Recommended Posts

I searched and searched and searched, now i am tired.

I thought for sure that i saw a post on our site about the coolant temp sensor being replaced (part of normal maint?) and better gas milage was attained. This would make sense since the ecu reads temps to see what condition the truck is running in ie cold, warm, hot hot hot.

If i am stupid, not the first time...at least i don't think? ehh i've been : wrong!!!

Where is it located on the VG33E??

May have seen this comment I made in the General forum under 60,000 service?:

"If it is hot were you are, you may want to consider your coolant hoses. We had a 96 Mercury Mystique before the Pathy and replaced the hoses (all 10 of them!!!!) after five years. They looked good on the outside, felt fine when you squeezed them but the inside was a sticky mess. We see temperature extremes from -40 to + 40 C, so it pays for some preventative maintenance. Got better performance and fuel mileage as a bonus."

  • 2 weeks later...

At my sales job today, i met an older guy that had a sweeeet '97 Pathy, kelly green XE with flares and in tow was a nice enclosed trailer. After talking to him a while i find out that he too averages 16/17 in town and right at 20mpg highway....so i left work a lil early and bought the coolant temp sensor....seeing as my last tank with about 60% highway only got me 15.5 MPG (with tire correction)!!!

I wasn't on point enough to go get the hoses too but...I'll start here!! Posting again on when i have completed a new tank!!!

...............................................incidentally, where the Heeel is the coolant temp sensor located?? Haynes isn't helping!!! VG33E
