Shock mounting bracket broke

I traced a sporadic clunking noise to the left rear shock on my 1988, with 5-link

type rear axle and suspension (page RA-21 in 1988 service manual).

The forward part of the lower mounting bracket is broken, about a 1"x 1" square, where the top of the bolt goes through. The mounting bolt is still in place, but it can jiggle around.

Is this a common break? Welding needed to fix it? Looks like I could do a temporary fix with a longer bolt and big washers.

Haven't heard of a break like that before, and yep, you'd need to weld a new bracket (or patch up the old one?) to fix it.

Haven't heard of a break like that, but yes, weld if possible. Clean it up, then get it done or do it yourself. Might as well do it right the first time.

odd break, sounds like it got hit right there by something.

and definately have it welded.
