Guest Oceanside
I traced a sporadic clunking noise to the left rear shock on my 1988, with 5-link type rear axle and suspension (page RA-21 in 1988 service manual). The forward part of the lower mounting bracket is broken, about a 1"x 1" square, where the top of the bolt goes through. The mounting bolt is still in place, but it can jiggle around. Is this a common break? Welding needed to fix it? Looks like I could do a temporary fix with a longer bolt and big washers.
statikuz
Haven't heard of a break like that before, and yep, you'd need to weld a new bracket (or patch up the old one?) to fix it.
Mr. Pickles
Haven't heard of a break like that, but yes, weld if possible. Clean it up, then get it done or do it yourself. Might as well do it right the first time.
