Wretchasketch
I just got everything back together after installing a new timing belt. My chain wrench slipped off the can sprocket when removing the center bolt. I'm afraid this is the result. Is this valve noise I'm hearing?http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=11429 (if this takes you to a page of banjo tunes, scroll down to the one that says Pathfinder motor.) Thanks:) Edited February 1, 2015 by Wretchasketch

Slartibartfast
Definitely sounds like something in the top end isn't happy.
Wretchasketch
Yep. Thanks. I ain't exactly happy about it either.
Wretchasketch
I'm hearing a constant tic and a clanky tap about every 5 seconds or so. I will either have this towed to a garage or pull the valve covers in the presence of someone more experienced than me. Got to do the gaskets anyway. Precise1
Well, it is hard to tell from the recording, it just isn't like being there... Have you used a mechanic's stethescope or metal rod (long screw driver) to try to pin point the source? So, one of the cams rotated when you removed it's pully? Did you move it back? When you put the new belt on, the cam pulleys were indexed to the reference marks, and the tooth count between the cam pulleys and the sam/crank pulley was 40 and 43? That should mean everything is lined up... Did the old belt break, or was this a maintenance job? How long has it been sitting, could one of the lifers have drained or collapsed? It seems to idle smooth other than the noise, could you still be having (dizzy) timing issues? B
Wretchasketch
happiness.I followed the manual and remove the spark plugs to do this job, because it needed them really bad anyway. The sound we are hearing is the number 6 spark plug wire not on the plug and its arcing.
Precise1
Glad to hear, that is about the easiest fix there is... B
Wretchasketch
indeed. Anyways, thanks so much for taking time out to help. I barely got any sleep last night worrying about this dog gone vehicle. I just about cried when it turned out to be the plug wire. Tears of happiness.
