Valve Noise after a timing belt job.
Wretchasketch replied to Wretchasketch's topic in General Forums
indeed. Anyways, thanks so much for taking time out to help. I barely got any sleep last night worrying about this dog gone vehicle. I just about cried when it turned out to be the plug wire. Tears of happiness. -

happiness.I followed the manual and remove the spark plugs to do this job, because it needed them really bad anyway. The sound we are hearing is the number 6 spark plug wire not on the plug and its arcing. -

I'm hearing a constant tic and a clanky tap about every 5 seconds or so. I will either have this towed to a garage or pull the valve covers in the presence of someone more experienced than me. Got to do the gaskets anyway. -

Here is the direct link to the motor running. http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/media-player/audio_player2.asp?musicid=35932&archived= -
I just got everything back together after installing a new timing belt. My chain wrench slipped off the can sprocket when removing the center bolt. I'm afraid this is the result. Is this valve noise I'm hearing?http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=11429 (if this takes you to a page of banjo tunes, scroll down to the one that says Pathfinder motor.) Thanks:)

Closest harbor freight is 45min. Wish we had one here, but I'd go broke. I like all your advice. Thanks!

That's what I was thinking, but I hate to take a step backwards. Thanks.

I am wrapping up a timing belt replacement with guidance from the wonderful step by step topics on this forum. I bumped the distributor cap and the whole distributor turned. I just bought the vehicle and there is no telling how long the bolt that holds it in place has been loose. I don't own a timing light. Any advice as to where to set the distributor until I can get to a mechanic?

Just used the forum to replace my timing belt. The rubber seal started coming off the upper timing cover upon reassembly. I put all the bolts in and tucked the strip of rubber in place as best I could before tightening the cover down. Needless to say the seal is not very solid, especially in top. Should I take the cover back off and make a gasket with black RTV, or just go on and put my belts and hoses back on without worry?

Howdy. My name is Tracy. (Mr. Tracy) I just bought a 99 Pathfinder. I already see how helpful the experience and knowledge off you guys are going to be. I am about to wrap up the worlds longest timing belt job, which is being done in my spare time. What a great resource this forum has been!

Replacing the Timing Belt & Adding an AT Cooler
Wretchasketch replied to DoctorBill's topic in How-To's
I have a 99 Pathfinder, and the power steering pump and alternator appear to have switched sides at some point since 95.. I had a heckuva time getting enough slack in the power steering belt to get it off. I ended up removing that bolt that holds the bracket and goes into the oil pump. I went ahead and put it back in before I got any further with this job. Hopefully there won't be a problem, but I am glad I found this thread before getting too far along. Frazetta rules.
