Side to Side Wobble

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Few month back I did a total suspension overhaul including brand new control arms and shocks on my 99 2WD pathfinder.

Everything looks good accept that I have noticed something was off recently.

while on the highway and every once in a while I would hit a pot hole or a depression on the road and the car will smoothly wobble side to side as if I am going on a dirt road with alternating pot holes ( if that makes any sense). I thought it maybe a bad section of the road where heavy trucks may have made the pavement uneven but I am certain that it is not the case.

I checked the shocks for any leaks and did not notice anything out of place and nothing else is loose in there either.

Any Ideas on what that might be.

yep, new front control arms and alignment done right after.

I guess a better thing to do is to ask why would a pathfinder wobble side to side in a manner that does not correspond to road conditions after hitting a pot hole or a depression in the road?

Differential is shifting on the drive shaft. With the driveshaft at the center point and worn out bushings, the rear end wants to walk or wander going down the road. Just a minor shift of the drivers side forward and the pas side toward the rear makes that axle want to steer the truck. Usually letting off of the accelerator helps calm it down.

So the rear axle wobbling makes sense but I already replaced everything rubber on the suspension so I am not sure were to look next.

- Will check to see if anything got loose.

- no shaking in the steering wheel.

My guess was that this wasn't occurring prior to the suspension overhaul? Check trans and engine mounts, they can cause odd shifts in power transfer if more than one has failed.
