OBD-II codes P1491, P1110, P1135

Recommended Posts

Download the FSM on NICO club and go to engine section and just go to the index and it should list the codes you are looking for, it's a good place to start.

I know nothing about VQ's but that's where I want start.

You can get a link to the FSM from a thread pinned in the Garage section. That will tell you codes, trouble shooting, repair/replacement and everything else you could want.

(don't have that manual so can't get the code definitions any easier than you can)

P1491 is not related to P1110 and P1135.

P1110 and P1135 are for the left and right variable camshaft solenoids timing advance. These solenoids work off oil pressure to advance the timing of the engine. As the vehicle gets older with high miles likes yours it gets a little cranky sometimes as the oil pressure isnt as high now as it was new, this makes the ECU think the eis a problem as the soldenoids dont advance as much as the ECU expects them to.

Check and change your oil if it has been awhile and make sure to change the oil at regular intervals. Changing to a 10-40 oil might help as well.

P1491 is the vaccum cut valve bypass valve. It is located in the rear of the truck under the body near the top of the rear spring.

Thanks for your reply. Can fueling your vehicle with the engine running cause this code?

No. You need to replace the part.

You can minimize the number of times the light comes on though after clearing the code by only filling up 3/4 of the way.

Outside temp, humidity and pressure trigger this. Now that it is summer it will happen more often then when it is cold.

One last question; can a malfunctioning vacuum cut bypass valve have a negative impact on fuel economy?

Thanks again.

Yes. Though it would be a small decline, about 1 MPG or so.

Update: Got the oil changed yesterday. The tech who told me about the leak said that the Pathfinder was down a quart of oil. Have driven it some since getting the oil changed and the check engine light has gone out.

Seems that way...

Did anyone chack the oil since that was posted almost 4 weeks ago?

I changed the vaccum cut valve bypass valve about a week ago but my truck is still popping code P1491. What else can be done to correct this?

Thanks.
