kefferjoe
Water pump pulley failed this weekend. The belt flew off while I was driving down the free way. The pulley was insanely wobbly so I sucked up a towing bill and had it towed to a shop. I could do the water pump myself but my concern is that while this happened that something happened to my timing and if so what are the chances that I broke valves or pistons? I did smell smoke after the belt came off and the car won't turn over. Also the lights that came on when this happened were the brake battery and a/t light (maybe just letting me know the alternator wasn't going) any thoughts on if something happened to the engine? Rebelord
Pull the plugs and turn it over by hand with a socket and breaker bar. You should be able to tell if something is amiss. If it was just the water pump and pulley. That shouldnt have any effect on your TB. But, if you havent changed the TB in a while. While you are in there might as well change it. kefferjoe
So I'm sure it was just the pulley but why wouldn't my car turn over? Without the fan belt engaged?
Rebelord
Then something else happened at the same time. Check all your fuses in the engine compartment and cab. <- Where I would start. The the basics, spark, fuel air.
cvdloc
You said your belt flew off? I assume that's your timing belt too, that's the reason why it won't turn over. I'd do that first check rebelord suggested
Trogdor636
If it was your water pump failing, did you notice how hot it got? You could of warped the heads.
theexbrit
I believe that the VG33L is an interference engine, so your valves could be bent.
Kingman
Water pump and timing belt aren't even connected. Its not a Honduh
Rebelord
^^^ Exactly. Just because the water pump pulley may have siezed and tossed its belt. Is completely external of the timing belt.
Trogdor636
That's why I'd be more worried the water pump was going, tossed the belt, overheated and warped a head.
