Help me! Water pump timing belt

Water pump pulley failed this weekend. The belt flew off while I was driving down the free way. The pulley was insanely wobbly so I sucked up a towing bill and had it towed to a shop. I could do the water pump myself but my concern is that while this happened that something happened to my timing and if so what are the chances that I broke valves or pistons? I did smell smoke after the belt came off and the car won't turn over. Also the lights that came on when this happened were the brake battery and a/t light (maybe just letting me know the alternator wasn't going) any thoughts on if something happened to the engine?

Pull the plugs and turn it over by hand with a socket and breaker bar. You should be able to tell if something is amiss.

If it was just the water pump and pulley. That shouldnt have any effect on your TB.

But, if you havent changed the TB in a while. While you are in there might as well change it.
