how to get rid of the rust on the windshield

I have the same problem with my 87. If it doesn't go down to the windshield flange you could just fix it without removing the windshield just take the molding off. Get some rust converting primer to stop the rust.

I have a similar spot on mine, and I am going to take the windshield out because I know there will be more underneath. It looks like someone has put some sealer in there on yours where a chunk of the weatherstrip is missing. Maybe they were trying to stop leaks.

Do I need to sand it with the rust converting primer? No I havent pulled the molding yet.

 

^ What he said. Have you probed it to see how soft it is and how far it goes? It might not be too bad yet...

I did this awhile back a few years ago to look like theres isnt some molding missing but i noticed that rust was just starting a few years back. I just bought my pathy back from my brother inlaw.

I would sand all the rust off then apply the primer to make sure the rust doesn't come back. If there is a hole I would remove the headliner and get some primer in from the back side too before fixing it.
