dash instrument cluster lighting dimmer - umm, where?

Make sure you get the right one, count the pins on the back of the switch, most are 4 pin but some are 3 pin.

I've found both, in fact I installed a 3 pin in my 88 when I fried the stock switch

Great, even the dimmer has to be complicated. :rolleyes:

Do you know which pin configuration applies to which year/dash type (or whatever the difference is)?

It's the 'rheostat'.

This is from the '93 and earlier service manual. Both VG30 and KA24 use the four wire, but notice that one wire simply loops over. I suspect it's for self-illumination, and the 3 wire just has this connection done internally. So essentially would be able to use both.

 

I have the '94 manual suplement, but it does not cover this, so may be the same.

Yeah, ok, sure. That's what that means...

Ok, 3 or 4 pin is fine and I'll grab the pigtail if I can.

 

Talk to me about bolts and metal and tolerances, I don't need no stinkin' wires! :lol:
