Adjusting rack retainer

Anyone ever done this before? My Pathfinder pulls slightly left while driving straight. It has been doing this for as long as I remember. Last time the wheels were aligned the guy at the shop was stumped why he couldn't correct it. The FSM states to fix this problem by "resetting the adjusting screw" but doesn't go into any detail. Thanks.

I'm hoping you didnt pay for an alignment with a guy saying that, and I'd certainly try taking it to another shop.

There is a chance the lower arm is on a cammed fastener or something like that (I know that's the case on my VW strut front end). Still, "I can't find the adjusting screw" doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

Well, the more you look, the more you learn. This is out of the 1998 R50 FSM...

If the alignment is off (and the wheel bearing and rotor runout is acceptable) then you have worn out and/or damaged front suspension components. I suspect worn bushings, but if it was wheeled hard, it may be something bent. Was the vehicle ever in an accident?

You are talking about the steering rack. *goes and sits in corner*

No, it's never been in an accident. It's not a real hard pull, it's more noticeable at highway speeds. More of an annoyance. I've checked the bushings out and they all look really good. Everything seems really solid, save for the stab link that I will be replacing soon, along with the struts. So i 'll be due for another wheel alignement too. u9ejy3az.jpg

You can get new bolts for the struts that will allow you to adjust the camber. Generally people use them when lifting their vehicle but they could be of some benefit to you if everything else checks out.
