Tire Fitment Question

Ive got a line on some Interco MT's 15X31X10.5. If i put them on a 10 inch wide rim with 3 inch backspacing could i make these work with my stock suspension. Has anyone done this before?

They will probably rub the plastic in the wheel well a little. My 31x10.50x15's did.

Why do you want to install 10" wide wheels? You can easily fit 31" tires on 15x8's with 3.75" to 4" backspacing without rubbing on stock suspension.

Check out the Tire fitment thread, i just added my new tire wheel combo, its almost identical to your setup.

I have a set of 10' wide rims at my disposal i wanted to use is the only reason why. Really i just want to run a 31X10.5 tire. Thats all i want.

Very true, unfortunately, it is often possible to fit a narrow tire onto a wheel that is too wide for a proper fit by forcing the sidewalls to spread wider than they are designed for. It's pretty easy to recognize this problem, as it leaves the tire sidewalls leaning at a diagonal to the tread instead of vertical. This is extremely bad. Tire sidewalls are supposed to be vertical, since they're what's holding the tire tread stable against the car's weight and protecting the wheel against impacts.

 

I think a rule of thumb is about 2.5" bigger tire than wheel, so a 8" rim will be ok with a 10.5 tire, etc.

 

I have 31x10.5x15 on my 96 with a 2" lift & no rubbing whatsoever. My wheels are stock (8" wide I believe) so there's very little backspacing. Once I put 3.75 bs Pro Comps on things may change a little.

Agreed with above. Plus pro comp wheels are fairly inexpensive. I paid $55 a wheel at summit racing.

Yep. Much easier for dirt/rocks etc to get between the rim and bead, and as it'll be 'stretched' it's already fighting the tension in the carcass to stay on there anyway.
