WokeUpDead Posted April 23, 2012 Share Posted April 23, 2012 Hey guys, I will be changing the clutch on my Pathfinder soon, I see the shop manual recommends applying sealants part numbers KP510-00150 and KP610-00250 to various transmission/engine mating surfaces. This is just one of those sealants that you squeeze out of a tube, right? Are there brand-name or generic alternatives to the part numbers above? Thanks. If you need sealant for a gasket surface I suggest using Toyota's FIPG silicone as it's the best available in a tube. I used Nissan's excellent silicone until they discontinued it in squeeze tubes and switched to selling it in caulk tubes. The Toyota and Nissan silicone appear to be the exact same product... and probably are. So you don't have sticker shock when you walk into the Toyota dealership, FIPG is about $25 a tube. msavides Posted April 23, 2012 Share Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) I just replaced my clutch this weekend. According to the FSM it does state to use sealant on the two backing plates.(helps keep the lower plate connected to the large plate (let it dry and clamp it together) while trying to reconnect the transmission to the engine) If you look at the plates you will see the factory sealant spots. If they are still good on the plates you probably wont need anything. However if it was coming off the plates like mine was you may want to reapply in those spots. It also says to apply sealant to to the other side of plate where transmission bell housing makes contact. Even if all your plates look good I would put a thin coat of sealant on the plates where the FSM say to. I used the ultra grey RTV silicone. Good luck Clutch job is a PITA. Kingman Posted April 23, 2012 Share Posted April 23, 2012 X3 on Permatex Ultra Grey. Cheap-ish, great consistency, easy to remove, and it's not offensive to see unlike red or blue. I've never thought about using any kind of sealant on the plates but it's actually a good idea... sometimes getting the plates to line up to run bolts through can be a pain in the ass.
