Firehawk
Anyone heard of any issues with filling the truck with the amount of oil specified in the manual? I.E. the engine will run sluggish? Previous owner seems to recall my uncle always did one quart less than stated in the book or the engine would run poorly. Any info on said possible issue with the oil level? 93, 3.0V6 auto trans Thanks~ Edited January 31, 2012 by Firehawk
Towncivilian
Fill it up to the "FULL" mark on the dipstick. Underfilling will put more strain on the oil and likely increase the oil's temperature overall. At 3.60 quarts (IIRC) oil capacity with a filter, the VG30E already has a tiny sump. Putting ~2.5 quarts into it is lunacy.
Firehawk
Well that backs her story~ She thought he always put around 4qt's in so cool, ty. I am starting to think maybe the quick lube place over filled it at one point or something. Anyway, engine runs great so I am not going to worry. Thanks~ ~Jason Edited January 31, 2012 by Firehawk
1994SEV6
Oil capacity is 3 and 5/8 qt. with oil filter change for 4x4 truck. That's what you need to put in.

Thanks~ ~Jason That's a high possibility, quick lubes generally have generic monkeys who only know how to do a standard "5 and a filter" change. Now the FSM and all has that little under 4 qt capacity but double check afterwards as I know my truck personally actually DOES take 5 for some unknown reason. (and we've been through it already, it ain't the dipstick)
Precise1
The dipstick reading the dipstick perhaps?? I put in straight 4 qts and it reads correctly, but I also have a oil filter relocation kit and run a PH8a size equivalent filter so that probably traps the balance. silverton
When I take the truck to jiffy lube, they always bring up the 4x2 pathfinder, not the 4x4. So, when I hop out of the truck to let them do their business, I just say "I know what your computer says, but I want you to put 4 quarts in it."
