King, that is why I asked. This is nothing I am looking to do next month, just wanted to know what direction to look. Thanks for all the info peeps!

Are the pistons/ rods and or crank forged in a 93 VG30? The reason I ask is I would not mind bolting a small turbo up some day and was just cuious if I was wasting my time even considering it. I don't reall want to build a turbomotor, I already have a project like that going on and $$ is spread thin enough. Thanks for any input. ~Jason

Thanks for the lengthy post and info. You make a good point about the steering as well. I was not big on the added wear that the tires will get as opposed to riding on a trailer. I may just take it easy for now and keep my eyes open for a cheap flatbed. I have been needing one for a few years now anyway so I can drag my car to the track. Thanks again everyone~

Is disconnecting the drive shaft a fairly easy task or should I start looking into a cheap trailer? B/c again, I am looking for an option to take the truck to the island for the weekend or the day and then back again. I want to tow the truck in case I break something I don't want to be stuck over an hour from home.
-
Do we know of anyone using this method over long periods of time? I just want to be sure b/c I don't want to damage the truck. Plus a cheap trailer would cost me $1500 or so but if that is the way I need to then I will do that.

Ya I was not sure if just putting the transfer case in neutral would do it or what. Thanks for the input!

Guy's (yes I searched first) I was wondering if it is possible to tow a WD21 (93) Patfinder 4x4 auto trans with all 4 wheels on the ground. The reason I ask is I know subaru's for example can not be towed with either set of wheels on the ground, they recomend a flat bed. I would love to be able to get a tow bar and then I could transport it 1.5 hrs to the beach on the weekends. I am sure this has been discussed before but searhing for towing seems to always bring up other items related to towing. Thanks for the help! ~Jason

Don't worry about D-Rock [lol] Billy. Like previousley mentioned~ you either need to place the vents over something you dont mind getting wet in the engine bay (nearly impossible), keep it out of the weather (difficult) or fashon up some door flaps or something. I have a custom hood on my car with 3 big vents and trust me, water goes in when it rains by the bucketfull. I will kick the idea around in my head today and maybe spit out a CAD drawing if I come up with something.

Good looking truck~ You are in the same boat as me~ I am not in a rush to mess with mine b/c it's so dang clean! Nice score for sure : )
-
I was quite pleased with how mine turned out. Mine looked just like your before pic (possibly a little worse) and now looks just just like the final pic ahardb0dy... Thanks again guys! ~Jason

As above~ I have some surface rust on my spare tire carrier and here in a min I am going to remove all of that and then shoot it with a primer and then color. It appears that it was black but I am only about 90% sure on that. some areas appear to be really dark grey but I am thinking that is just what happened from the sun. The 2 attachment points to the truck appear to be back~ So just wanted to confirm the original color so I don't change anything ; ) Thanks! ~Jason edit: I went ahead and shot it in flat black. Looks pretty sharp.

If it is going to require a little heat I have that covered. Thanks for the warning.

Hmm. Well I would need to source the new gears. Looks like I will be pulling the crank gear anyway to change the seal as well as the cam wheels.
-
What's the rating differnce on the 2 types of belts?
-
Maybe I should have been more clear~ That was not just the belt, that was the price for the belt and tensioner. And thanks for the reply's. I am going to spend the week reading up on tips and tricks and then maybe knock it out next weekend. Thanks guys. edit: I will give Rob a call this week and see if he can help. Thanks for the tip!!

I went to Oriley's earlier to price/ get a t-belt to put on the truck. Well the guy at the counter said I either have round or square grooves and I need to figure out what my engine's cam gears look like (round or square). Is there a way to tell this without starting the project? I was happy to know the 2 belts they offer are 80'ish and the other 99 so the price is right. 93 4x4 V6 auto Thanks gents! ~Jason

No Check Engine Light, I will go dl the FSM and see if I can pull any codes. Will report back! \ edit: It looks like it's required to remove the pass seat to gain access to the PCM? That's quite a bit of work just to pull codes!

OK, last month I noticed the truck did not want to hold a steady idle about 1/2 the time I was driving it. Sometimes it was just fine, other times it would constantly bounce from 200ish to 1K. Example, I went 2 miles to the store earlier today. On the way no issues. I get back in after 5 min and the idle danced around until I got back to my place. Well Friday it actually died on me a few times rolling to a stop. engine runs fine, just the idle is the issue. On my car if I had this issue I would look for a vac leak and if none then the idle air control motor would be suspect. However after looking in my books I can only find an idle speed adjustment and no sensor that does this function. What should I do now? Not sure how this engine and computer adjusts the idle~ Not sure what to look at/ replace :? Thanks!

Very cool. It must be clogged b/c the front work fine. I will check the line and blow air thru the same time I check the drain(s) for the sunroof. Thanks guys!

Does the rear window have a washer fluid reservoir somewhere? I swear I can hear a motor run when I hit the button but if that's the case it's out of fluid b/c nothing comes out. Looked in the owners manual and could only find info on the one for the windshield. Sorry if it's a silly question :|

No real short trips per say. OK I was able to verify the front wheels do spin free of the CV's so I know it's not dragging. A few well placed paint marks (one on inside of rim other on cv boot) did the trick nicely. Picking up all the service paperwork Saturday and I will go from there. I don't recall seeing anything about an O2 being replaced when I first looked at the paperwork so that may be my 1st thing to replace.
-
I can probably get the paperwork from the last emissions test from my Aunt this weekend as I need to go drop off a payment : ) And as for tires the truck drives straight as an arrow and the tires are almost brand new so I don't think that could be the issue. It almost sounds like the hubs may be dragging b/c when I first got the truck I put it in 4 wheel off and on and got the same mileage. Again, I will check out the front end as soon as the weather clears up.
-
You are correct on the tire size~ I guess what you are saying is if a (the) front hubs are sticking that means they are spinning the front cv's, diff, and axle up to the transfer case? That makes sense to me. I will get my paint pen out and see what I can find out in the next few days. edit: I have no record of the O2 sensor(s) being changed, that is on my short list of things to do.

I have a question on what MPG I should expect out of my 93 auto 4x4. I thought the original window sticker (paper) had it rated at 16/ 18 but I could be wrong. Well 3 weeks ago I filled the tank and drove it 95 miles over the following 2 weeks. The fuel needle was on 1/2 at that point (it acts up below that) so I figured it's inaccurate most of the time. Well it took 9.5 gallons to fill it back up. Not good. Well over the following week I drove 110 miles, filled up last night and I was at 10.2. Never went into 4 wheel drive and I baby the truck to the point I have people pass me cause I don't accelerate off a light fast enough. The truck just passed emissions, has new plugs, wires, cap, CAT, runs great.. so my question is~ is this normal MPG for 110 miles and no issues with the engine? Just seems low for a V6 that as far as I know is in tip top shape. Thanks!
